Great book
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2015I absolutely love this book! I am very much a history buff, I like all kinds of history, but my are of specialty in Tudor England. This book is a great resource for anyone who is studying during this time period. I run a couple of history pages on facebook so this is a great resource to have on hand. Plus I just like looking through it and seeing what events happen on certain date. The book follows the 12 month calendar and tells certain events that happened on each day. She doesn't give out dates she also goes into detail about the events as well which I really like. At the beginning of the book she names and gives dates to different Tudor Holidays that they celebrated during that period. She also names and give dates of reigns to the monarch's ruling all the way to James VI ( Basically houses of Tudor and Stuart). I would recommend this book to anyone, especially if your new to Tudor history, I am not good at dates though I have been studying this period for a few years now, this really helps me a lot. All I can say is if your a fan of history/Tudors/Stuarts this is a must buy. You won't regret it.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2017If you are a fan of history, especially Tudor history, as I am, you will enjoy this day book filled with events and personages connected with the Tudors. Each day has its collection of people and events with connections to that day. My mind reels with the amount of research Ridgway has done to assemble this information.
If there is anyone, from the most obscure to the most prominent, with any connection to the tudors, they are included. Here you will find the stories of what happened on a particular day to the Tudor court.
For example, on my birthday, Prince Arthur was born to Queen Elizabeth of York and Henry VII. The day also marks the death of Sir William Paston, who served Henry VIII as a sheriff and commissioner.
This book is the most complete collection of Tudor history as it happened, day by day, that I know of.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2013This book is a wonderful resource! I've been reading Claire's blog for a few years now and decided to treat myself to this book so I'd always have something to read each day. I been reading an entry each day (and playing catch up on the days when I realize I've gotten behind) and it's been very informative. Each entry is painstakingly researched and the author relies on primary sources whenever possible. This is very well-done and a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about the Tudor period, regardless of how educated on the subject you are.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2014I look at this daily and learn a great deal from it. It is really interesting. I love the history of the Tudors and this is just a pleasure to look at everyday. I was a little worried because it is written by Claire Ridgeway and she is sort of biased when it comes to Anne Boleyn, but I have so far not found her bias. Some of her other books sort of make Anne Boleyn a saint and I don't completely agree. This one was pure info. I liked that. Good everyday read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 2, 2012This is one of my favorite books of all time. The title of "On This Day In Tudor History," could lead one to believe that it is a calendar of Tudor events, but it is so much more. The first time I looked at this book was in Kindle, but after reading a few segments, I realized I had to have it in print, and I was not disappointed. It is a thick, delicious volume that has found a permanent place on my desk and is referenced daily. Claire Ridgway has included events related to every Tudor monarch, but she had also added interesting and sometimes obscure details about other members of the Tudor court, details about customs and holidays, political events, births, deaths, marriages, battles and intrigues that make this an incredibly entertaining read. I would say this is not a book for those unfamiliar with the Tudor era, but for those who can navigate through the Tudor courts, this is a jewel. Although I have read this book from beginning to end, I go back to certain days, review a month at a time or follow one persons journey to the end and Ridgway's attention to detail never fails to amaze me. This is an incredible book, a true labour of love and a gift to anyone who wants to learn more about this fascinating era.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Resource for All Things Tudor
I bought the Kindle version of this wondrous book, and I will probably buy a paperback version because it's so much fun to romp through dates!
Claire Ridgway is the immensely learned author of this Tudor 'day-timer.' I don't know how she did it, but she has organized every day of the year with Tudor-related events and people. I imagine that any aspiring author of Tudor-related studies will find this an essential resource. Ms. Ridgway approaches her subject not only with a vast trove of knowledge, but with a truly British sense of (dry) humour. 10/10 + for this engaging, witty, informative 'gold mine' of a book.!

5.0 out of 5 stars On This Day in Tudor History
I have enjoyed Ms.Ridgway's other books immensely but this one has 'Smashed it' for me.
It contains a wealth of factual knowledge, written in an straightward style and laid out in an easy accessible format, like a diary.
It is a book for everyone who has an interest in Tudor history at any level, be it from general curiosity to hard study. A must to have at the side of you when reading other books of this period, be them fact or fiction as a point of reference.
I wish there had been something like this around when my interest in this era grew many years ago.
Congratulations on a great book Claire.
