As an online language teacher, I've often felt lost in my business strategy, because there's so little written about how to run your own online language teaching business. A year ago I came across Elena and Veronika's "Opted Out" Facebook group, and found out about this book. It was a game-changing experience.
When I first read "Opted Out", it felt like the authors were reading my mind. Not only they give great advice on how to run your small-scale online business, but they know exactly the mental processes that you go through while trying to achieve so on your own. This book feels like having a best friend/mentor that knows you and your business really well (sometimes even better than yourself) counseling you. It provokes change, gives you focus, and pushes you to stop making excuses and move forward in your business.
One of my favorite parts about Elena and Veronika's approach to business is their focus on being authentic to ourselves, our purpose, values and core message. This is not a business book for people who want a magic solution or the secret to making "lots of money really fast" (that so many gurus pretend to have). It's a book for authentic people that want to make an impact in the world, however little (or big) it may be. It's a book for teachers that want to help other people and make an honest living out of it. Business owners that prefer to work slow and steady towards their goal, and that are in for the long run. It's not focused on making money (although of course the authors give its due importance to that too), but on giving your gifts to the world and being authentic to your true self.
The main idea in this book is, when you stay true to yourself and are not afraid to be authentic, niche down and become an expert on your field, that's when you connect with people who are like you and understand your core message, and will become your fans and buy your products. The process of finding out what your core message and your ideal client are isn't easy, but this book gives you a lot of "aha" moments that push you in the right direction and give you the courage to follow through.
After reading this book, and connecting with other teachers on the "Opted Out" Facebook group, I realized that all online teachers go through the exact same processes. This book knows that, and guides you through them. For me, the fact that it felt like the authors were reading my mind proved they know what they're talking about and that I should trust their advice.

If you have started a small consulting business or you are thinking of starting one - this book is an absolute must-have! Start with this book! It is hands-on, very clear and concise, and full of the information you don't want to hear. But it is exactly what you need to hear. It comes with a downloadable personal journal keyed with each of the chapters in the book. I was an English teacher and had thought I wanted to continue it online - but I have recently discovered that I really want to be a management coach. This book came at the right time and is perfect! I don't often recommend books - but this little book is lighting the spark - it is exactly what I needed to shape a dream, and to start giving it a life - my life! Thanks to the authors for sharing their experience and incredibly expertise - amazing teachers!

When I left public school teaching, I searched high and low for a way to keep teaching. After several false starts, I discovered the "Opted Out" community and the concepts so beautifully laid out in this gem of a book. I was fortunate to be able to purchase bits and pieces over the last year and am now coming up on the first anniversary of my online teaching business. I have never been happier.

Now, I look forward to new blog posts and programs from Mutonono and Palovska. I couldn't wait to read this book. Here they have blended some of their best ideas and advice. If you have a teacher's heart and are looking to begin or develop an online business, read it and you will save an enormous amount of time by learning from their experience. You'll find the questions, focus, and motivation to figure out how to share your best self with your ideal client.

This book is well written, it is clear and to the point; it delivers what it promises. I enjoyed the language as well, it is concise but the author takes the time to explain her ideas well. The companion workbook is a good tool to put into practice the ideas presented in the book.
I will wait for the next book that Elena and Veronika will write when their business is not small anymore...

There are people that become experts through spending years and years with the books and the academic world and specialized in the topic they love and as such they dove real deep in that subject, and are deservedly and widely respected for that. And there are people that by means of becoming an expert have crossed another path: of the real-life experience, and deserve as much respect. The authors of this book are the second case here, and thankfully they had the courage and mission to turn this experience into a book that will help many people out there to improve their lives for the better. Having that said, it is guaranteed to have some truly useful advice in each of the words written in this book.

One of the things I struggled with the most as a teacherpreneur was finding my niche. Through her caring coaching, Elena Mutonono helped me find my niche, helped me develop a product to sell to my new niche and she helped me open my eyes to the possibilities I hadn’t seen before in my teaching business.

I am grateful to Elena Mutonono and Veronika Palovska for investing their time in writing Opted Out book – They are truly passionate about the topic, they really care about their mentees and you feel it once you start reading the book.

I am grateful because having this book is like having a business mentor in my pocket.

I have a few books that I refer to whenever I get stuck in my business and Opted Out is now one of them. It’s a must have for any teacherpreneur who needs guidance and motivation in their teaching business. It will give you clarity. I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars ¡Me gustó mucho!
