This is a helluva good read. I'm talking, two twisted, dark, sexy, stories in one. Two brothers, one in prison and the other not. They have fallen for the men in their life that needs protection. And when it comes to protecting their men they are not playing around. The amazing narrator allowed me to relax my eyes while I enjoyed him reading this amazing book to me. I so highly recommend. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

    From the first chapter Nicholas Bella has dropped the reader into the world of motor cycle club. This is a world where the men make their own rules and live by their own code. We learn of the men who inhabit this world and the men and women who love them. This is a full cast of characters and this first glimpse definitely wets the appetite for more. This first book focuses on Ace and Dragon, two brothers who both find their mates in unique ways. They will both have to earn their mates love in different ways while still dealing with outside forces that are affecting the club. But one thing is sure, you don't disrespect a Lord of Chaos or their boys. Some people will learn that lesson the hard way.

    What was I thinking? Motorcycle Clubs aren't my thing at all. I have read maybe a handful and only a few of them were really good. I have been dreading to read this book though I was so keen on giving it a try. It's by one of my favourite authors and the covers of all three books in the series are so cool.
    I was full of doubt that it would engage me as much as his New Haven series did. So I was pushing the reading out so far that I started cleaning my house! I dragged myself through the first two chapters to get used to the main characters' two names, I was warned by a friend to take notes. I don't know any bikers so I have to rely on stories I heard or read that all of them get called by a moniker, so I learned the given name and the alias they go by in every day club life. There is a lot of information to deal with before the story takes off.
    The first two chapters really dragged as I got introduced to most of the MC's members that were relevant for the first book and some who looked to be marked to maybe get their own story later. I looked forward to shootings, attacks, ordered killings. I wanted the dark and twisted that I was so used to from the author.
    I am quite used to the multiple POV and even that there are actually four main characters in this book. After the New Haven series I was also in tune with the author's preference for cliffhangers. He loves telenovellas and has taken on this style for his writing. I truly despise them, but knowing this would be a trilogy I wanted to overlook it. I don't do that with many writers. The book is written in third person to give us an inside into what the characters think and do at the time of reading the paragraph, but with two male characters it was sometimes a bit iffy to distinguish who "he" is and who was feeling what.
    This book is about two brothers, Ace and Dragon, who grow up within the Lords of Chaos MC founded by their grandfather. Both get to meet their SO in unusual ways, but I love the unpredictability of story telling. Mr. Bella is doing an exceptional job in world creating, but this isn't paranormal, this is contemporary. I loved the idea of an all inclusive Motorcycle Club (no matter what sexuality, gender or skin colour), because most MC books work their MM content about the forbidden part, the danger to be anything else but straight. Publicly. So I am totally okay with a MC president, even if he is father and grandfather to a few members, who doesn't force his sons' sexuality into hiding, taking away this plot line, so the writer has to find other ways of causing distress and trouble to keep the story developing. No one wants to read a fluffy MC story. But in about 45% that's what it is. *sigh* It isn't that everyone is stunning, a looker, tall and muscled, not even the continuous mention of the club being a family and the importance of family and that personal life always comes second to the club. What really bothers me with this book is the almost insta-love between Ace and Kenshin. It is sugar sweet and I cheer for them but it is not what I expected in a dark and gritty MC book.
    Ace's brother Dragon is the other main character, who is in prison and has only six months left of his five year sentence. He has two of his club's members as companions with him in prison. I was rubbing my hands as here is the promise of some dark and gritty going on, but 214 pages aren't enough to go into too much detail of what is about to happen, hence a cliffhanger. While the build up happens, Dragon is introduced to his new cell mate for the next six months, Richard. Richard is the type of guy who wouldn't survive long within the walls of a prison, so he seeks out his prison buddy for protection. But he has to pay for this protection with his ass. Dragon's and Richard's relationship starts as dub-con, but quickly develops to the gfy trope.
    I want the dark and the dangerous and the plot twist. Unfortunately in this book there are only glimpses of it. I hope that in the next book there is more action outside the bedroom/prison cell.

    Woo, this story started with a lot of information. So many characters were mentioned. By name, nickname & designation. It was overwhelming & I decided to give up trying to keep track & trust that the author would make it clear when it mattered.
    It really picked up around chapter 3 (31 pages) then I was hooked! I had to know more about Kenshin.
    The story moves really fast, which I quite enjoy. I didn’t have to slog through tons of detail to get to the meat of the story. There is a lot going on that is all connected to the MC in general, but you don’t always know the why.
    I struggled with the way the POV’s were written, though. Sometimes they would switch from paragraph to paragraph. Sometimes a side character. That required some re-reading of sections to make sure I understood. I did get more accustomed to the style by the end.
    I found it interesting that there were two relationships taking main stage in the book at the same time too.
    The book ended with a HFN, some would call it a cliffhanger, but it isn’t. It’s just unfinished enough to make sure you want to pick up the next book so Kenshin can get what he needs.

    One of the fun things about this book is that there are two romance stories running at he same time, one in prison and one outside it. The two stories are woven together really well by Nicholas Bella. There are characters that have appeared in other series and you don’t have to have read them but it does help In understanding some of the story. I have read some of them but I have a terrible memory so I did feel like I was missing things at times. If I have one criticism it’s just that this whole story, which is told in different series, is getting a bit unwieldy to keep track of. But as I said I do have a bad memory. Often with series like this I will reread them when a new one comes out but I just didn’t have time right now. Overall it’s a terrific motorcycle book with lots of urban fantasy and romance included.
