Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

I was born toward the end of the Jurassic Period and raised in New Jersey where I misspent my youth playing with matches, poring over Uncle Scrooge and E.C. comics, reading Lovecraft, Matheson, Bradbury, and Heinlein, listening to Chuck Berry and Alan Freed, and watching Soupy Sales and horror movies. I sold my first story in the Cretaceous Period and have been writing ever since. (Even that dinosaur-killer asteroid couldn't stop me.)

I've written in just about every genre - science fiction, fantasy, horror, young adult, a children's Christmas book (with a monster, of course), medical thrillers, political thrillers, even a religious thriller (long before that DaVinci thing). So far I've got about 55 books and 100 or so short stories under my name in 24 languages.

I guess I'm best known for the Repairman Jack series which ran 23 novels. Jack is out to pasture now, but I may bring him back if the right story comes along.

THE KEEP, THE TOMB, HARBINGERS, BY THE SWORD, and NIGHTWORLD all appeared on the New York Times Bestsellers List. WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS won the first Prometheus Award in 1979; THE TOMB received the Porgie Award from The West Coast Review of Books. My novelette "Aftershock" received the 1999 Bram Stoker Award for short fiction. DYDEETOWN WORLD was on the young adult recommended reading lists of the American Library Association and the New York Public Library, among others (God knows why). I received the prestigious Inkpot Award from San Diego ComiCon and the Pioneer Award from the RT Booklovers Convention. I'm listed in the 50th anniversary edition of Who's Who in America. (That plus $3 will buy you a coffee at Starbuck's.)

My novel THE KEEP was made into a visually striking but otherwise incomprehensible movie (screenplay and direction by Michael Mann) from Paramount in 1983. My original teleplay "Glim-Glim" first aired on Monsters. An adaptation of my short story "Menage a Trois" was part of the pilot for The Hunger series that debuted on Showtime in July 1997.

And then there's the epic saga of the Repairman Jack film. After 20 years in development hell with half a dozen writers and at least a dozen scripts, Beacon Films has decided that "Repairman Jack" might be better suited for TV than theatrical films. (We'll see how that works out.)

I've done a few collaborations too: with Steve Spruill on NIGHTKILL, A NECESSARY END with Sarah Pinborough, THE PROTEUS CURE with Tracy Carbone, and the Nocturnia series with Thomas Moneleone. Back in the 1990s, Matthew J. Costello and I did world design, characters, and story arcs for Sci-Fi Channel's FTL NewsFeed, a daily newscast set 150 years in the future. An FTL NewsFeed was the first program broadcast by the new channel when it launched in September 1992. We took over scripting the Newsfeeds (the equivalent of a 4-1/2 hour movie per year) in 1994 and continued until its cancellation in December 1996.

We did script and design for MATHQUEST WITH ALADDIN (Disney Interactive - 1997) with voices by Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters, and the same for The Interactive DARK HALF for Orion Pictures, based on the Stephen King novel, but this project was orphaned when MGM bought Orion. (It's officially vaporware now.) We did two novels together (MIRAGE and DNA WARS) and even wrote a stageplay, "Syzygy," which opened in St. Augustine, Florida, in March, 2000.

I'm tired of talking about myself, so I'll close by saying that I live and work at the Jersey Shore where I'm usually pounding away on a new novel and haunting eBay for strange clocks and Daddy Warbucks memorabilia. (No, we don't have a cat.)

This work is taken out from a collection of stories horror writers wrote named freak show which Wilson edited. Based around a circus group which consists of unique people that have a connection to the Otherness another dimension. I have the signed limited edition with all authors signature and did not want to open up the pages and ruin them, a kindle version was released so was great opportunity to check it out. Was not disappointed great stuff interesting reading it's important reading before the other book of his All The Rage a RepairmanJack novel which is also full of good thrill and excitement. I really need to get reading the first in the Jack series The Tomb, that had been sitting there for that special time. Wilson is really good writer I recommend highly a vampire story of his The Keep that was really good.

" Jacob did not quite understand what the Otherness was, but he learned that it existed on the far side of "the Veil" and that the Device was a gateway to the Otherness"
" Jacob's search through unorthodox sources revealed that the Device, as his curio was called, was one of the "Seven Infernals" and could provide a link to "the Otherness."
" Look, almost all of us in the Emporium are a special kind of freak. Our deformities are the result of exposure as fetuses to the Otherness that leaked through the Device. This Otherness is a much older, more dominant, more powerful reality than ours. It changes any of our reality it touches"
"The Device will change the way the world sees us. When our day comes we will no longer be considered freaks. We will be accepted. We will get our due." [...]

For Repairman Jack fans, this is a very good complement to All The Rage. The novel expounds on the origination of the emporium, the "freaks" and their relation to the Otherness. You never knew what Ozymandius' "freak-side" was and without giving it away, you will be agog. Wilson ends the novel in his typical whirlwind fashion, which is his forte. However, it is this reader's opinion that it was over too fast and basically no epilogue...it's just over and there you sit. TPOTCOE is still a very good short read and worth the expenditure.

As my title implies, this book is tied in to (what seems like) ever other book F. Paul Wilson has ever written. A must have for anyone who loves his Adversary Cycle books and his Repairman Jack books.

I originally read Freak Show (which was basically the same book, just broken differently, and i thoroughly enjoyed it. But with F. Paul Wilson unifying his universe and getting all his ducks in a row I re-read it as The Peabody-Ozymandias Traveling Circus & Oddity Emporium. and was very happy with all the subtle changes and if anything, i enjoyed it more.

    F. Paul Wilson never ceases to amaze me, and although this is a review for this book, i would be remiss if i didnt say you should just read everything he has every written, because he is phenomenal.

My wife and I have become totally absorbed in F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack series. The character is great, and the world that Wilson has built up around him has some really unexpected twists and turns to it. While "Traveling Circus..." is part of that world (although Jack does not put in an appearance in this novel), and helps fill in some gaps in a couple of key areas, I didn't get into it nearly as much as the other RJ novels. The writing and imagery were good, but one of the things that makes RJ likeable is his sense of humor, and this novel was quite a bit darker. Overall, I think the book's important to have as part of a complete Adeversary Cycle/RJ collection, but I didn't like it nearly as much as some of the other novels in the collection, and not just because of Jack's absence. As an example, I found "Black Wind" to be much more engaging, both from its historical perspective and back-story (it explains a lot of the characters and elements of the RJ novel "By The Sword"), but also because the characters in it were a lot more lifelike, and you could relate to them much more readily.

Author's own narratives taken from and not well transitioned between each and conclusion--from earlier long out of print multiauthored story of the world's path to destruction. (No, Armageddon does not work through politicians here!) Having read the longer it is impossible to be satisfied with the shortened work.

While this is a stand-alone story, it does tie into the overarching theme of the Repairman Jack series, so it might have a little more appeal to those already familiar with that series. Having said that, it can certainly be read and enjoyed by someone who is not familiar with F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack books. Reminds me a bit of some of the H. P. Lovecraft stuff, in a good way. If you are a Repairman Jack fan and haven't read this book, wait no longer. It is published as a book, but it's not a long story, really more of a novella than a full-length novel. Not a complaint, just an observation.

    F. Paul Wilson continues to amaze me! This is a GREAT story taken from the impossible to find anthology "Freak Show" which Wilson edited. It's another interesting tale involving the "Otherness", which fans of Wilson's "Repairman Jack" series will know about. It revolves around some circus characters and freak show oddities and is quite an entertaining read. Hats off to Wilson for publishing this HIMSELF so that more people could get a chance to read it.
