About the author

Max (she/her) grew up just outside of New York City, spending most of her formative years outdoors creating wild ghost hunts with neighborhood kids, setting booby-traps to capture unwitting family members, and building clubhouses on top of ten-foot walls. Max wrote her first story at the age of twelve and there began her romance with the world of fiction. Through the years, Max has written several short-stories and poems, all of which met the wrath of the “Not Good Enough” monster and ended in fiery demise.
Max regained her confidence when she began writing scholarly articles and research theses on her first trip through graduate school. It took several years for her to break the habit of the formal writing that marred her creativity. Max writes primarily LGBTQ+ sci-fi/fantasy, crime/thriller, and romance stories. Max describes her women-loving-women novels as "edgy romance and crime/thrillers about women rising from the ashes of their experiences and thriving in the context of love and relationships."

- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the second book I’ve read by this author, the first being Hart and Stocker. Both are wonderful stories full of interesting characters and decent plot. Secondary characters were an added benefit. Lots of spice as well. Read this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first book I have read by this author. I wasn't grabbed by the title or the cover. I actually checked this book out because I read a book review on it that popped up on my Twitter feed. The feedback was really positive, and since it was available on Kindle Unlimited I figured I may as well check it out because I wouldn't be out anything if it wasn't that good.
I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the banter between Alice and her friends and family in the beginning. Something about the dialogue and the way the author set the story really piqued my interest and got me hooked in the beginning. Then when Alice and Stella started to get to know each other, I literally couldn't put the book down. Combine their vulnerabilities with the action in the surrounding story and this was a real page turner. I found parts of the story to be laugh out loud funny, other parts were arousing, and there were a few spots I shed a couple tears. The development and growth of the relationship between the two main characters was absolutely beautiful, especially the way they nurtured each other. This turned out to be one of the best books I've read recently and I will be purchasing it to keep and reread.
Do yourself a favor and read this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchasePlease don't pass this book up. I couldn't stop reading it. I loved the brave women in the story and the sad parts as well as the happy parts. It was like watching a good lesbian movie, which isn't a bad idea. Max Ellendale is a great author that books are intense I simply loved the characters and the book. Great writing Max!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI so enjoyed this traditional romance and it's the first book I've read by this author. Both Alice and Stella are very likable and I thought their chemistry was truly believable. They start out tentatively getting to know each other and slowly progress to a deeper relationship. Their back stories are very different yet wonderfully poignant. I got very caught up with Stella's story and became very invested in her future.
The writing is lovely. The dialogue is serious and endearing one moment and then witty and laugh out loud funny the next. The plot also moves at a nice pace. It's not an insta-romance which I really appreciated. Ellendale takes the time to have these women work for their happily ever after. There is just enough angst to make me grab for a few tissues here and there.
This was a fantastic read and one of my favorite romances I've read in the last several months.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere is a lot less criminal fiction than the last two books of the series.
The romantic connection between Allie and Stella is very good. Of course, it is not without angst.
I only gave four stars because Allie got on my nerves a few times. She acted like she really trusted Butler, I'm not sure why or how anyone would trust someone who acted the way he did. Her outbursts made her seem like a spoiled teenager. The only notable appearance from the Trilogy was Walsh and a very brief appearance from Stiles.
I'm debating on whether or not to read Book 4.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBoth women have to face their own demons before they can live and love to the fullest. They know they can't keep running away from their problems forever. The road to love again is long and a bumpy ride. The storyline was well developed, with vulnerable characters you really can bond with, excellent banter between the friends and a lot of excitement. I loved how they grow gradually. It was slow and beautiful. Following their ups and downs was very enjoyable. A great novel of love, loss, betrayal, hate crimes and abuse. There are so many good things to say about this book, so I just say read it and enjoy. This was my first one by this author and definitely not my last.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this book, it was a very sweet story. I loved the two main characters and their friends and family. I am look forward to the next in this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Speechless
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this story, the best so far, these books are so well written that you feel involved with the characters. What I like is that the plots are so interesting and gripping that you are swept along and can't put it down. They are not just your usual romance, although the relationship is really hot and beautiful, I laughed and certainly cried with the emotions portrayed. I enjoy the glimpses of characters from previous stories as you will want to find out what they are up to, looking forward to reading more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great romance with great characters
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this book. It was very well written - I found myself very invested in the characters. I very regularly found myself in tears of happy / sadness.
Genre wise I would personally say it was a romance with a sideline of crime / detective work. In my opinion I would have preferred a stronger crime storyline with the romance on the side - especially considering the main characters are a doctor and cop - but that is just my personal preference. I would definitely like to read more books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars emotional read
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJust because you’re broken doesn’t mean you can’t be repaired. Two great characters find that accepting help can set them on a more positive healing journey. Although there was some mega angst you were invested in these totally likeable characters pulling through to at the end. The only drawback, if you’d call it that, was having to take a break occasionally because there was too much emotion. A prime example of accepting someone you love as they are without trying to change them.
