Being Brown in a Black and White World: Conversations for Leaders about Race, Racism and Belonging Kindle Edition
Annemarie Shrouder has written a book to help leaders step into awareness of the damage “race” and racism cause and have caused. Her journey illustrates the deep divide that this social construct has created in bodies, in societies—and the world as a whole. Annemarie shares her pain, searching, and ultimately, the beginnings of healing of this divide in herself while chronicling what this divide can look like in companies and organizations. She masterfully illustrates the cost of not having these conversations, of not building community and the healing of stepping into both/and in order to see more.

5.0 out of 5 stars What You Really Need to Understand About Creating a Culture of Inclusion and Belonging
What a beautiful, powerful book with a deeply important message. Annemarie Shrouder shares her personal journey as she reconciled the two parts of who she is - both black and white. It was deeply humbling to share a lens into her world as a bi-racial woman, and the journey she has travelled as a mother and DEI consultant. Not only does Annemarie share so much awareness and wisdom, she also provides guidance on how to open up the conversation about race in the workplace. With vulnerability and authenticity, she shows us so how to create the bridge from either / or to both / and, to create a culture of true inclusion and belonging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful Insights
In this book Annemarie Shrouder illustrates the impact of an either/or approach to people of mixed ethnicity in the workplace and personally. Shrouder's 'both/and' attitude developed through years of experience and reflection provides a more positive and inclusive style for employers, colleagues and friends. Shrouder's vulnerable sharing of her experience from her own childhood to being a mother gives powerful insights for readers. I strongly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, creative new way to talk about race!
A must have for anyone seeking to begin, continue and deepen discussions about race.
Both/and, simply explained with life experiences provide a unique perspective to conversations on race. In the poems and stories, the struggles of a racialized person are captured in anyone can understand.
I haven't encountered a clearer explanation of what inclusion is to date. A must read for those in positions of power and decision making.
For the color blind, it's not a positive position as " Intention doesn't ease impact. "
Lots of food for thought. I couldn't put this book down when I opened it. Go have a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book - and a refreshing view of what "race" means/does not
I finished this book last night. It is such a touching view of anti-Black-racism, unique to the author's lens. I found it to be thought provoking. Bravo! (And I loved the use of poetry! How original!).
