Mike

I have all I’ve ever dreamed of except for one thing. I have my dream job playing football in the NFL, a big dog who loves me almost as much as I love him, great friends, and a loving family. Now if I could only find the prefect partner for me. Someone who wants to cuddle with a six foot nine chubby guy, loves dogs and food as much as I do. If the last four years since I graduated college have taught me anything, it's that I'm asking too much.

Right now, though, all I’m focused on is finishing the regular season with enough wins to get to the Playoffs and getting the perfect birthday cake for my friend’s daughter’s birthday. I need the pastry chef of my favorite bakery to do a special order for me and I’m pulling out all the stops to convince them.

Theo

There are a lot of things Mike McKinnley doesn’t know. Like my full name, the fact that we live in the same city, or that I’m the pastry chef he’s texting, asking for a special order when I almost never do those. He doesn’t know that he made me believe there was still good in the world after spending years losing hope little by little. He absolutely doesn’t know that in my mind he’s the standard to which I compare all men. He doesn’t know I’m terrified of him shattering that standard if we ever speak again, because it’s only thanks to that fantasy that I still believe there are good men out there.

How can I keep avoiding him when he’s constantly texting me and being all cute and shit?

Turns out I can’t.
Turns out I never stood a chance because Mike McKinnley is irresistible, Mike McKinnley is the perfect man, Mike McKinnley is
definitely too good for me.

What will happen when he eventually finds out who I am?

You Started It is a contemporary Male/Male romance. A full length novel that tells the love story of a baker and a professional athlete. It involves sports, a bakery, all the big dogs, a mental health rep, size difference, and hurt/comfort feels. It's the third book in the Fan Service Series, and while it is a standalone, it would be best enjoyed by reading the series in order. This book is intended for adult readers, has
no cliffhangers, and ends in a HEA. There are a lot of very gay things happening inside, so if that's not for you, then this book isn't either. If it is, then welcome to the mostly low-angsty world of the Fan Service Series, I'm thrilled to have you and hope you enjoy this journey.

Use the 'look inside' feature to read the full list of TW, please read responsibly.

Hinsel Meyer is an avid romance reader that loves a HEA. This is why she started writing in the first place. The idea that she could answer all the questions that normally plague her at the end of a book was too intoxicating. She especially fell in love with MM romance some years ago and found the dynamic change from all the romances she’d read before addicting. She loves all kinds of books, especially romance, and fantasy, and when those two collide, you won’t hear from her until she reads them at least twice.

This is a wonderful story and I am a Hinsel fan for life! Her books have such depth and heart with her diverse characters. This is Mike, the center's story, Mike with his big heart, sensitivity and love of his dog. He has adored Teddy since high school, Teddy with extreme anxiety disorder, master baker extraordinaire and secretly crushing on Mike for years. There is angst and passion, friends and good and bad family, and so much love it permeates the pages. This world of football is foreign to me but the men and women who inhabit it seem real, some broken but supportive and tolerant of each other. Hinsel writes with an amazing ability to make you feel things and presents situations that include anxiety disorder. I am a "Big" Mike fan all the way even if the "World's Best Cuddler" is a hard title to live up to. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Every book in this series has gotten better, and I'm really glad I stuck with it. I am still loving all these characters, and Mike is such a big softie. I originally wasn't sure how I felt about the time jumps written in the beginning of the book, but they gave us a lot of context that we really need for the story. The writing felt smooth and complete, and it wasn't rushed.

I'm still getting confused with the huge cast of characters, and more keep getting added. I do love that the original core group of friends are still so close, and it was great catching up with them. Adam and Sebas especially feature quite a bit in this book. Everyone was a little more grown up in this book and it was nice to see that their careers and distance didn't destroy their close friendships

This was a sweet, low angst book. There is some family drama, but it gets resolved. Mike's medical emergency and Theo's anxiety were discussed and handled well. The writing has improved a lot from the first book, but we are still getting the unique sports perspective and wonderful characters that made me want to continue with the series. I am looking forward to Derek's book next year!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review

Mike finally got his Teddy! I have never met a character so insanely good-hearted until Mike. His friends and family always want to protect him from any possible hurt. Teddy had to get through so much and paid for it dearly along the way. He has supportive family but being a child of divorce limited their time together. These two got their second chance and never looked back. I love them dearly and look forward to more from this lovable friend group.

There isn’t much needed to describe this book. It’s a very, what you see is what you get kind of story. The two MC’s have their own baggage and traumas but everything is written in a very low angst, drama free way. Especially between the two main men. The writing is simple, the story tries to be a bit more serious sometimes but with how insta-lovey everything is from the get go, there was no reason to ever worry the drama would get out of hand.

I will note however that this book is chock full of side characters who are barely explained. It gets complicated and confusing quick despite the cheat sheet the author provides at the beginning of the book to help with who is who. I went into this book not having read the two previous books and I would not recommend it.

Tropes: Cinnamon roll MC, Hurt / Comfort, (sort of) Coming of Age, Football, Found Family

I was so excited to read this book after enjoying the previous two in the series, and I absolutely loved it! Fantastic read! Both MC’s were amazing with their own issues to overcome. And I empathize and had some heart pangs for sure. And shed some tears too. But it only made the book so much more intriguing to me. Fabulous, fabulous read! I need more in this series! Cannot wait.

This is my favorite so far. Mike is the absolute best! I love how sweet and gentle he is with everyone, but mostly with Teddy. The entire situation with the both of their mothers broke my heart. I loved everything about this book. I can't wait for Derek's story.

I hadn't read Sebas and Adam's or Glenn & George's stories, and I faltered just a little at parts as to who was who, and at times I wasn't sure if we were back in the past or in the present, but for the most part I kept up with it as the story went on.

Well, this was like a hug in a book and such a feel-good read. It had that magical ingredient where it just makes you smile. I quickly fell for Mike and Theo (and don't get me started on Tony and Oscar!). I always hesitate when an anxiety disorder is featured in a story as to whether it's portrayed correctly and sensitively (and yes, I know each individuals experience of it can be very different, I'm coming from the point where there could be instances of where things blatantly wouldn't be true, such as 'getting over it' quickly etc.) and I felt here it was shown very well. There's a lot going on in this story, and it requires your full concentration, and you're rewarded with a beautiful queer romance where you get to meet a fantastic supporting cast. A lovely, enjoyable read.

I had not read the first two books in this series but this was easily read as a standalone. What a lovely story these two characters had. Very endearing and good reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars slow burn involving former friends, big dogs and sweet treats
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 11, 2023
this was a great but heartbreaking story of Theo who suffers anxiety from growing up with his bitter mum and Mikey who is a famous football star who also enjoys food, wants to learn to cook, has a secret obsession for a baker who makes the most incredible treats and just wants to find someone to love and be loved. Mikey and Theo first met when they were around 17, they then meet up 10 years later and still remember their first meeting. It's a slow burn and there are lots of flashbacks in order of to understand why Theo suffers from anxiety so much. There's a little angst at times and lots of other great characters and family that make this an enjoyable read. I look forward to Harrison's book next!
