The Reanimated Rumble (The Reanimated Writers Reanimated Rumble Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
The Reanimated Writers is a group of indie zombie fiction authors on Facebook. The Reanimated Rumble was a competion that was posted weekly within The Reanimated Writers Zombie Fiction Fan Group, and the fans got to vote for the story they liked best. The twist? No one knew who wrote the stories until the votes were counted. This kind of blind competition allowed new authors to go head to head with seasoned vets without the fear of a fan base coming in to move that author along. Only the stories mattered.
This is the competition match by match and even includes some bonus stories.

Much like film noir, Justin Robinson was born and raised in Los Angeles. He splits his time between editing comic books, writing prose, and wondering what that disgusting smell is. Degrees in Anthropology and History prepared him for unemployment, but an obsession with horror fiction and a laundry list of phobias provided a more attractive option. He is the author of ten novels in a variety of genres including detective, humor, urban fantasy, and horror. Most of them are pretty good.
I’ve been writing for many years, but only recently did I start publishing. Soon after that I was lucky enough to land a job as the Editorial Assistant for the Ralls County Herald-Enterprise. Now someone actually pays me to write, which is pretty cool. I graduated Wellsville Middletown High School in 1993, and after a short stint in the Army I traveled, mostly in the mid-west, though I've been as far north as Seattle and as far south as Pensacola. I haven’t done anything amazing like single-handedly save an entire tribe of Ugandan children from Ebola or serve overseas and save my entire squad from a tribe of Ugandan children with Ebola, but I love a good story, whether I’m reading one, or writing one.
Along with the independently published American Revenant zombie apocalypse series set in and around Hannibal, Missouri I dabble in horror, thrillers, and science-fiction, mostly in short stories. I’ve also written several short screenplays with plans to eventually script a feature-length film.
I live in Hannibal, MO with my wife, two daughters and one dog.
While she mostly focuses on Horror, Valerie Lioudis is a multi-genre author who has been known to dabble in post apocalyptic, science fiction, and even metaphysical stories. The common thread with Valerie's work is her constant sarcasm, and love for bringing the unexpected to her readers. She loves the art of writing a short story.
Recently, she has branch out into Amazon's new platform Kindle Vella, with two stories Dark Awakening and Chained by Destiny.

Hey Survivor! My name is Sylvester Barzey and I am a best-selling horror and fantasy author. I grew up in the Bronx, NY, lived in the smallest state in the country for a while, and then transplanted to Lawrence, GA.
I’m a military veteran with an addiction to all things horror. My overall goal is to shine a spotlight on BIPOC characters within the horror/fantasy genre. From a young age, I was obsessed with horror movies, mostly Slashers. The mythos of the “Final Girl” trope was always something that appealed to me. The act of taking someone and watching them overcome the greatest odds to be the ultimate survivor has been a strong attraction to the horror for me.
But, what I didn’t realize growing up was all these survivors were White. Seeing only one type of person rise, builds blocks within people’s minds, it causes them to think that surviving is a trait only in one race, which is far from the truth. The Black community (Black Women for sure) has survival built into their DNA. History has shown us that overcoming great odds is something Black people have always done.
Being that I couldn’t find the final girls I was looking for (There are some don’t get me wrong and they are amazing), I set out to create them. I want to produce Black heroes who overcome world-shattering events and rise above them. My goal is for people to say Catherine Briggs’ name in the same breath as they say, Sidney Prescott and Laurie Strode. It’s my mission to change horror so that my children can look at it and see themselves as survivors.
Random Facts:
I love The Golden Girls
I’m married and have one amazing little monster
I hate the snow
My Top Five Movies Are:
Scream, Candyman, Day of The Dead, Train To Busan & Mulan
A big welcome to my Army of Darkness!
The stories that I create are dark in nature. Foolhardiness is now mixed with that love of the grotesque and the terrible which has made my career a series of quests for strange horrors in literature and in life. I live in the shadows of the land between dark and light. Without light, there is no darkness, and without you I can't be me. So grab one of my books, sit back, and let's play. Your demons are welcome in my hell.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2018I like when I get a book full of really good zom-poc shorts. I found this Reanimated Rumble, the first story let me know I'd found my "sit & wait" book. A good book for Dr.s appt's etc. The problem was, I couldn't stop at just one, I had to read them all, the stories are that good.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018This is a great collection of short stories! What a cool competition and a great way to check out these talented authors!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2018I am not a part of the group that had this competition. I read this book after, not during, the rumble. The variety is great, as is the glimpse into each author's style of writing. The diversity per topic was startling at times. It was interesting that just given a topic, the authors competing went so far away from one another's tale. Of course, some I connected with more than others, but they were all intriguing. I wouldn't call any of them boring.
My biggest disappointment was more in the layout of the text itself. Or format, if you will. I would have liked to somewhat experience the "blind" aspect of the competition. That was the biggest contributing factor for downloading this book. I normally do not care for anthologies or compilations. This was different and seductive. I believe it would have been better to hold off on the author's names and the winner until after each section. Like a page with the topic word only... followed by the two stories (with titles only and not the author name). Followed by a blank page so as not to glimpse the winner. Then lastly, on the final page, list the winning title and author, then the knockout title and author. This would give the reader a feel of what the rumble would have been like. They could think it over a moment and choose their favorite. Then see if their choice matched the majority from the original group. Or at the very least, if the authors had to accompany their account, then place their name at the end of their story so people, like me, that read a lot of zombie books, don't have a bias going in. And we all do, even if we try to be objective. Try as I might, I couldn't help but see the author; and "winner" or "knockout" was noted by each entry. I felt kinda cheated of part of the experience.
It was a good and entertaining collection. And I love the concept of the competition. But when read after the fact, it reads like any other compilation. I recommend this if that suits your agenda.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2018I was privileged to be able to read these stories in the Facebook Group, Reanimated Writers Zombie Fiction Fan Club. Sixteen authors were challenged to write a story based on one word/concept. Two authors were given the same concept and went head-to-head as readers voted on the "best" story.
All of the stories were amazing and the choice was really tough during the competition! The stories that "won" were great and the ones knocked out were just barely under the winners!
If you love zombie tales, you will definitely love this collection! Valerie Lioudis has gathered authors who truly know how to tell a zombie story! The addition of "Bonus Content" in this book is another perk!
Even though I had read all of the original stories before, they are just as good (and sometimes better) on reading them again! I know that I will reread this collection many, many times! And, I will definitely be looking for more books by this amazing collection of zombie loving authors!
