- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere is much to love about this story. The setting is wonderful, with picturesque descriptions of the beautiful English village where most of the story takes place; a cast of fun, quirky characters who come to life as the chapters go by; and a fantastic pair of leading ladies with chemistry to spare. But what truly stands out is the sharp, witty banter between the characters throughout the story. Frequently writers will have strong dialog between the protagonists, but T. B. Markinson has managed to write an entire story full of brilliantly crafted dialog between all of the characters, leading to so many great moments that are humorous, emotional, witty, sarcastic, etc... It is a fantastic story to read.
I received an ARC copy of this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNo one does snark better than T.B. -or romance & HEA. I read this first when it came out in 2019. Harry & Josie are easy to envision & delightful to listen to. Read it again!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhether it's at the first glance, the first date, or the first kiss, you know it. You know that this is the one. A Shot at Love is an uplifting story of Harriett and Josie's unlikely love story. Set in a quaint village in England, A bossy American meets a proper Londoner, both having come to low points in their lives, and searching for what comes next.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI expected more umph or something from this book written by this author. The book is generic and not memorable at all. However, I do appreciate the author's time and effort she put into writing this and I wish her all the best. Happy Reading to you
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a sweet love story. I enjoyed the chemistry between Josie and Harry and their banter. This was the first book I've read by this author and I'll be finding more of her books. Very enjoyable read
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseYou just can’t go wrong with a T.B Markinson book, The first in this series starts of with two wayward souls that meet by chance in a quaint little town of Cotswolds village. Needless to say, fate brings them together in the most craziest situation... which never goes well when your dealing with a meddling family and it’s drama. Needles to say the author does a great job creating plenty of banter and word play between the two main characters. You can’t help but root for the two and pray they figure things out to give them a HEA...I can’t wait for the next two books in this series by two more of my favorite authors.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2019Format: KindleVerified Purchase"For two people who love words, we f***ing suck at communication." These words, uttered near the end of the book, really describe the relationship between Josie and Harriett (Harry). They have both built their careers on the crafting of words, but when it comes to them communicating with each other, there are many misunderstandings, foot-in-mouth moments, and missed opportunities to say how they feel. That, along with each one's hesitation to make the first move, causes the sexual tension to build and build, so when they finally do get together... well, you don't want to miss that!
The contrast of Josie, the American, and Harry, the Brit, is fun. The story is heart-warming. The banter is enjoyable and doesn't seem like it's just filling space in the book. The supporting characters are colorful and have depth. I really enjoyed it, so I say, "Bravo, TB Markinson! A standing ovation from me!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming, witty and heart warming
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLike with all the other TBM books I’ve read it takes a while to get my brain back up to speed to keep up with the witty rapid-fire dialogue. Love it. The family dynamic reminds me of my own family but I don’t think we are quite as sharp as these characters.
Thanks for such a great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich and sweet
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhile it took me a little while to get into the story, once in, I was a goner. The leads, the secondary characters, the pub, they were all well-written, rich, and fun to get to know. Great job TB.

4.0 out of 5 stars Romantisch...
