Their age gap isn’t a problem. But what she carries might ruin them both.
Martha Walters won’t chance another broken heart. But after escaping from the brothel her ex-fiancé sold her to, she believes only marriage can keep her safe. On the run and desperate to find a potential husband, she takes a risk on a handsome cattle rancher ten years her senior.
Gray Jenkins worries he’s too old to attract a wife. Now in his forties, the wisecracking farmer with the soft heart takes a longshot and places an ad for a mail-order bride. But he’s stunned when a charming woman a decade younger shows up on his doorstep.
As Martha falls for her gallant suitor, she’s horrified to realize the secret growing in her womb could destroy their love before it starts. And despite his disbelief at his good fortune, Gray is ready to walk down the aisle until a dark enemy from Martha’s past threatens to tear them apart.
Can Martha and Gray run a dangerous menace out of town to secure their happy future?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2019Having made the worst mistake of her life, Martha is pregnant, afraid and on the run. En route to finding a new home, Martha reads an advert for a mail order bride and before she knows it, she finds herself in Spruce Valley meeting Gray Jenkins, a man who is somewhat older than her, but a gentleman nevertheless. Unfortunately, Martha's past catches up with her and she is forced to reveal the truth about her situation to Gray and the people who have taken her in. This sweet romance speaks of an era when law and order were still being established and women on their own faced unspeakable dangers. Despite her history, Martha is a strong woman who is determined not to allow those who meant to harm her win the day. Gray's ability to see beyond the obvious is very much in his favour and I loved his gentlemanly approach towards Martha. This book is obviously a part of a series, but it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. Although I purchased this novel a while back, I did also receive a copy of this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2021Another interesting mail order bride story.
Martha leaves a difficult situation and heads
to Montana, on the run from an evil man. She
answers an ad from Gray, a ranch hand ten years
older than her who has decided that he wants to
have a family. Follow their journey through some
difficulties to their own HEA.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2020This book was very good. I didn't want to put it down. This is the second book in this series that I have really enjoyed and hated to put down. Will definitely read more by Amelia. She makes the books exciting and spellbinding.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2020Martha grew up in Wisconsin and ended up in Montana after a few string of events that were not happy ones in her life. She ended up in a town while running from her past where she saw an ad from Gray Jenkins for a mail order bride. He is an older ranch hand that has finally decided to settle down. She ends up travelling to his city without knowing if he got her last letter and she surprises him. Both did not expect to find love but they did. They also have a few battles including trust issues to be together.
It ended up being a sweet book. It was a typical mail order bride book with a few different twists in the plot. Quick and easy read and nothing too terrible that would make you not want to read the book.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review. The opinions in this review are 100% my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2023Somehow I just knew her past was going to find her. Never thinking that the saddlebag would be seen again. But knew when the widow seen the saddlebag by mistake Somehow she would be involved with it again.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2020Cute story, not complicated and it's perfect for a rainy day read. There are several typographical errors in the text, which caused me to double check. Overall a nice story.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019Martha comes with a horrible past. She took control and saved herself only to read a article in the paper for a wife. Grey sees the love that his boss and his wife have and decides to turn in his bad boy belt for a family one instead. Add in past villains and you had an amazing tale.
