The Lonesome Cowboy’s Abducted Bride: Historical Western Mail Order Bride Romance (Montana Westward Brides Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 386 ratings

He longs for companionship. She’s pining away in Boston. Will affection make it out to the Wild West?

Ranch hand Eddie Murtaugh worries he’ll never find a wife. And with poor reading and writing skills and no proper education, he has little hope of attracting a mail-order bride. So he’s delighted when the letter his doctor friend helps him draft earns attention from an attractive New England woman of substance.

Fiona Wilkins’ socialite lifestyle holds no interest for her. Eager to escape her overbearing parents and excited by the idea of adventure on the frontier, she secretly replies to a gentlemanly rancher’s listing. So when she learns her father wants to auction her off to a man she loathes, she brings forward her plans and escapes in the night on a train bound for Montana.

As Eddie’s nerves flare at the thought of presenting himself to the well-to-do lady, his anxiety turns to dread when he hears Fiona’s carriage was robbed. And instead of a bold new life in the arms of a rugged cowboy, Fiona’s dreams derail when the bandits take her hostage.

Will Eddie and Fiona survive the treacherous backcountry to get love back on track?

This novel would benefit from a conscientious copy editor, who would catch typos and grammar mistakes. Nonetheless, I really loved the novel. Like all of Amelia Rose's romance novels, it is in some ways similar to all the others (so you get more of what you already love about Amelia's writing), but at the same time, the story line is ingenious and unique. The heroine, Fiona, runs away from home to avoid getting married off to a wealthy suitor who is twice her age and a womanizer. A maternal housekeeper, Mrs. Dickens, who has always encouraged Fiona to follow her heart, teaching her, for example, to cultivate a vegetable garden, makes all the arrangements for Fiona's escape. Fiona runs away to Montana to find Eddie, the young cowboy with whom she has been corresponding after reading his ad for a mail-order bride. On the way to Montana, the train that Fiona is on is hijacked by robbers, who take Fiona as their hostage, in hopes of getting ransom money from her wealthy father. Eddie learns of this from the town's sheriff, and the two organize a rescue party that ends up capturing the robbers and rescuing Fiona, who now longs for the security of home. Eddie gives her time to recover from her traumatic experience and re-discover what she really wants from life and where she really belongs. At first, the readers, as well as Fiona, are led to believe that her parents punish their rebellious daughter by abandoning her in the robbers' hands. Then we are led to believe that her parents come unexpectedly to Montana to drag their daughter back to Boston. In an ingenious and deeply satisfying twist to the story that I don't want to give away, Fiona's determination to craft her own life and pursue love rather than wealth, combined with the love of those around her, lead her to a happy ending that is deeply rewarding to Fiona and reader alike. Amelia Rose is extremely gifted in crafting unique characters and plot, while sustaining the rustic atmosphere of pioneer life and the same small-town feel we find in each of her novels and that we want to return to again and again.

I love these western Mail order bride stories, I truly get lost in them. My only issue is “cursive” was not a thing until the 1990’s when my children were learning to write. I grew up with “writing” and I still don’t get “cursive”. If you want to reflect the period then do so accurately.

I really liked this book. Fiona is from Boston and her parents decide who she will marry, a man twice her age who she doesn't like. Eddie is a cowboy who works on a ranch with his brother Sawyer decides to put an ad in the paper for a mail order Bride. He's ready to settle down. Fiona answers his ad and takes off in a hurry for Montana and along the way the train is held up and they take her hostage. Eddie and his friends hear about and they decide to find her. This is the first book I have read from this author and look forward to another one bk 4 I hope

I liked the books plot and story line. But sometimes it seems like a little more detail could be added. The ending seemed to be rushed to finish the book. But, then again a little more detail would have have been nice.that being said, I do love the characters very much. I will be reading the rest of the series.

This author keeps you reading without it being choppy or uninteresting. It incorporates a woman's strong mind and openness to love and adaptation to hard situations. While I enjoy steamy romance scenes, her books are fantastic without them. I scour kindle unlimited for authors that have a natural knack for writing. I am now a follower of Amelia Rose. I absolutely love series. Start with the first book in the series. You will enjoy it immensely.
