WIND CHILL (STORMWATCH Book 3) Kindle Edition
Winter storm Holly is the worst in eighty years bringing high winds, subzero temperatures and snowfall better measured in feet than in inches. The weather paralyzes everything in its path, but in this storm, weather isn’t the only threat.
A serial killer the press has dubbed the Christmas killer is taking lives…and he’s not finished yet.
All Special Agent Gia Franklin’s sister Carly wanted was for Gia to come home for Christmas.
But Gia avoids the holidays, using her job as an excuse to stay away. For weeks, she’s been tracking The Christmas Killer, a cold-hearted monster who strangles his victims and poses them with one of the Twelve Days of Christmas ornaments. With nine women dead, and only four days until Christmas, she must stop him before he kills again.
Then he makes the case personal by kidnapping Carly, and Gia must go home.
Aware she may be walking into a trap, she teams up with sexy, local Sheriff Murphy Malone to stop the madness, and save the holiday for her sister and the town.
But the clock is ticking.
And the CK has his own holiday plans – ornaments eleven and twelve belong to the Franklin sisters, and he won’t stop until they’re dead…

About the author

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Rita Herron fell in love with books at the ripe age of eight when she read her first Trixie Belden mystery. But she didn’t think real people grew up to be writers, so she became a teacher instead. Now she writes so she doesn’t have to get a real job.
With over ninety books to her credit, she’s penned romantic suspense, romantic comedy, and YA novels, but she especially likes writing dark romantic suspense and crime fiction set in small southern towns.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2022I’m really enjoying the Stormwatch series and read Wind Chill in a couple of days. The story was for the most part believable and I liked how the romance was put on hold until the end, kind of like a Hallmark movie. Rita Herron’s characters were interesting, with the main character Gia, a special agent on the hunt for a serial killer dubbed the Christmas Killer. It gets personal when the killer, who has killed only in the southern states, turns up in Nebraska and abducts Gia’s sister. It’s a race again time and the impending snow storm for Gia to make it back to her hometown and find her sister, before it’s too late.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019This was a fun novel to read. The reader cares about the characters and is interested to find a satisfying resolution. For me, events were somewhat contrived. You do not ignore a beloved sister, not did you quickly resume a high school romance. Still, there was lots of action and a romantic ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2025Gia, an FBI agent had been tracking a serial killer across three states. With a huge winter storm bearing down on her home town, the killer was there and her sister was missing.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2020This book was just ok. Most of it takes place in just one day. It had good characters, I guess the book was just too short. There are only a few kisses. The heroine had a TSTL moment at the end of the book. After she realized who the killer was and went after him, she did not tell one single person. Very dumb and I hate tstl moments.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2020Truly a page turner and another amazing book by Rita Herron. Lots of suspense as a winter storm approaches a small town where a serial killer has decided to kidnap special agent Gia's sister and might make her one of his Christmas killer victim. This book kept me up because I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Highly recommended and look forward to reading her next book in this stormwatch series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2020While this is book 3 of a series, each book stands alone - the connection is the storm not the characters or storyline. This is a quick read with a happy ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2019All Special Agent Gia Franklin has been tracking a serial killer through three states. Because of the season and the unique ornaments, the twelve days of Christmas, left at the scene of each murder, the killer has been dubbed "The Christmas Killer" by the media.
Nine women have fallen by the hands of this monster and no clues have been left behind. Then Gia makes it personal....almost goading the killer, hoping he will make a mistake that will help her catch him but instead the killer brings his game to her home town and takes her sister. Three ornaments are left, and the clock is ticking on her sister's life. With the storm bearing down on his small town, Sherrif Murphy Malone finds he has more than the weather to protect his town from and the person he will have to work with is the one woman he has ever loved....the one that got away. A page-turner from the get-go, this book has it all. You don't want to miss out on this exciting third book in the amazing STORMWATCH series!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2020I’m a fan of Rita’s books. This one was fantastic. She has a nack for creating characters you can truly love and actually feel like their real people. Rita is artist in the way she writes and I enjoy her timing and pace. Nothing feels rushed and it’s hard to figure out “who done it” some books I’ve read in this genre are easy to spot. Not this one. I was kept guessing. The details: FBI agent coming back to her home town after a crazed killer targets her sister. Long lost love is the local sheriff who still holds a torch. Enter a blizzard or bomb cyclone and these two are off to save the town. I very much enjoyed this book in the series. Off to book 4!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good book in this series
Really good story but the love interest portion was the same as in the other two books. Other than that, I really enjoyed this interesting, fast paced story. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Suspense Read
This is crammed with tension, suspense and spine chilling drama as FBI Agent Gia tries to solve the mystery of the Christmas Killer. Just who is he? Will Gia be able to capture him before he kills again?
I really enjoyed this book.
