This 4200 word short story is thriller author J.A. Konrath's favorite out of the more than one hundred he's written. Gritty, hardboiled, but with real heart, it follows the adventures of problem-solver Phineas Troutt (Whiskey Sour, Shaken) as he's hired to perform an assassination.

But does Phin have a secret agenda? And where does his old pal Jack Daniels fit into the mystery?

Action, twists, and a surprise finish make this one of Konrath's most memorable tales.

Joe Konrath has written over twenty novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Shot of Tequila, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Dead On My Feet, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, Old Fashioned, Bite Force, and Witch Brew. More coming soon.

Wow, that's a lot of Jack.

If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Second Coming, and Close Your Eyes.

Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.

He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.

With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), Rescue, and Free.

And, finally, he writes erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson. Those books are probably too spicy for you, so only the brave and bold should seek them out.

Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.

Fast paced action packed short story. Phinn is looking for Jasmine who works the streets. He reaches out to Jack his friend on the force for information. Story moves quickly with a surprise ending. A fast fun read.

I used to read Konrath while writing The Medici Iris: A Tale of Murder, Sex, Drugs...and Horticulture and found his books inspirational as well as a nice distraction. This is simply a quick and fun read with Troutt on his murder-for-hire mission and a few unexpected twists as we've come to expect from Konrath.

This is short, but well-written and a nice introduction to both the characters and author. Check out The List for another good book by Konrath. He has a lot of ebooks out and most hit the mark - you can download a Konrath book before a trip and not worry about being dissapointed.

With a 99 cent price tag, you almost can't loose. Keep in mind that this is a short story, but it's good. I'm a fan of J.A. Konrath, and was fortunate enough to pick up on him when a lot of his ebooks were circulating newly (and free). But it's worth the read.

Another Konrath short story that serves to "wet your whistle". Phin is a cool character with a limited amount of time to work with, why not take him a few roller coaster rides and finish at the inevitable end. Could be fun. I like the short story....... but why don't you stop with so many "shorties" and give us a little more. Konrath has a ton of loyal fans myself included who want to see some length to your work. I for one want more, more more and still more of Phineas Troutt. Four stars ONLY because I want a lot more.

phin Troutt is a freelance "get the job done" guy who at first appearance, one would think was a stone killer, but you would be very wrong,Phin is trying to save a life, and ends up saving two. The story can be read while waiting "on hold" or in your Dr.'s office,so it's a perfect mystery story of short proportation.

I love Kilborn's books, especially the Jack Daniels series, so I figured I would like this short story, and I did. The way he wrapped everything up at the end I thought was was amusing and well thought out.

Just a FYI: I paid zero $ for Street Music and I am madly in love with the writing of J.A. Konrath.

This short story follows Phineas Trout. Phin is character from the Jack Daniels series that is dying from pancreatic cancer and his morality has seriously slipped. Phin takes on the job of killing a hooker who stole from her boss. He needs the cash to pay for coke to ease his pain. Phin doesn't play nice trying to find the hooker and there is some fine double crossing involved. Phin encounters characters who "... went through life without ever realizing how precious life was". He should know and demonstrates that thought as he fondly describes his "street music".

Jack Daniels makes a brief appearance. (YAY!)

A short story in which the hero does "The Right Thing" and at the same time manages to bring the law down on the bad guy. Another good read from Kilborn - never been disappointed with this author yet. His style of writing is superb with humour running through it even in the bleakest situation. Brilliant.

I love, love, love all Jack Kilborn's books. I need to be away from other people so I can roar out laughing because of the strange looks I get and the frustration of people when I try to tell them why I'm laughing in between tears. Fantastically written and amazing lead characters who I wish were real!
