This is the third book I’ve read by Nicci and by far my favorite, although all of them have been fantastic. Their Broken Legend will probably go down as a favorite of 2024 in general. Her writing is so detailed that I feel like I’m in the book as a background character watching everything happen first hand. It is TANGIBLE. When her characters hurt, I get a physical ache in my chest. This story gives you a little bit of everything that you didn’t know you needed. A fast and furious emotional connection between the two main characters, the love and depth that they pour into each other, the build up leading to the inevitable/pivotal moment when everything comes crashing down. The steadfast strength and devotion Kaya showed towards Xander made me cry more times than I could keep track of. Within all this unfolding there is also the most beautiful mother daughter moment of understanding, forgiveness, and reconciliation that I hadn’t expected. I can’t end this review without acknowledging the EPICLY detailed fight scenes Nicci has written in each book I’ve read. While her books are dark romance she doesn’t miss a beat on those scenes and not once have they fallen flat. I read them as if I’m an award winning watching action film on tv. They’re THAT good. This is a VERY emotional book but you do get that happily ever after that we all need and deserve. Beautifully written, Nicci. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

    I rarely give 5 stars for books let alone series. Most of the time it is because of the lack of proofreading and how jarring it is to have to stop the flow of reading to figure out what word the author really wanted or why the name of the character suddenly changed their name. Easily correctable if the time and attention was given by rea,ly good proofreading to ensure the flow of the story wasn't ruined.

    I gave these books and the series mostly 5 because the storyline for the genre was fantastic, the characters in each book were developed extremely well and continued to maintain their primary characteristics when they appeared as supporting characters in the other books in the series.

    This is the first time I have read this author and I will come back for more! Don't get me wrong, the sex, loving, raw, primal, sweet, and everything in between was mind blowing. It was how these scenes were weaved into a "cannot put this book down" and "where is the next book in the series" immediate thought at the end of the book just finished that earned 5 stars for the author and each book.

    I also very much appreciated the "preface" to let readers who may be sensitive to certain topics know what the book would include. Very well thought out.

    I will miss all the emotions and drama each book provided and the escape into a world so very opposite of mine. Thank you for a fabulous and totally immersing time!

    I cannot believe their stories are over. I’ve known the butcher brothers just under a week now and I don’t know how I survived before they were such an intregal part of my life.
    I sit here, with tears of joy and sadness, a contronym for sure, not knowing which way is up. These Butcher Brothers are all HIM. I loved each in their own special way and will keep them near and dear.
    Zander finally got his book and boy was it messy. This one, for me, was the most emotionally dark one. I had to leave it for a day about halfway through anticipating what was going to happen to him. My anxiety was UP so yeah, I had to come back after reading a sunshine book for a bit. He went from the scared, heart wide open brother who was going to fight for his family in the courtroom as a lawyer with his big brain to a boxer, bruiser, a made monster. It was kind of sad to see how the world changed him but he didn’t aloe it to keep him down.
    Then he meets the fierce Kaya whom WE met briefly in Clays story as the fire starter. She was dealing with her own demons and some I can relate to. She was closed off and let no one close to her. She made a TON of poor choices but managed to muck through.
    These 2 met (again) and sparks flew! A match made in heaven? Hëll? Not sure but perfect for them. They fought demons together and became each others person. Was a beautiful thing watching them grow as well as the drama build.
    All in all, I loved each book more than the last. I wanted more closure as usual but I’m so very happy Bron got his “own” baby and I say that because it’s just a technicality for him. He loves one and all. Just wish Dad could learn about mom and we could hear more about Kaya’s mom & Max!! 🤭

    Xander is absolutely everything. I felt so much with this book. I felt his pain, the anguish, the burdens, the hate, the absolute adoring love.

    Kaya is a bit impulsive, but in the most loving of ways. She means well but ends up on the side of what the heck was I thinking. She is filled with anger, hurt, sadness but under it all there is love and loyalty.

    This couple nearly broke me. The tears were real, the sadness was powerful but the pure, hot, dedicated love pulled me from deep in my heart where I had thought I lost faith in love that powerful. This story pulled my heart up so I could see it beating again and I know love like this is something to strive for. Never ending, brutally honest and completely unwavering in the face of the unknown. It's perfectly imperfect and it's what we all deserve.

    Bravo Nicci....way to pull the whole series together and keep you gasping in fear and passion.

    Xander is the youngest of the Butcher brothers. He’s the boxer. The Butcher. He’s very smart, hot headed, always on the go.

    Kaya is taking a year off from college. She doesn’t know what she wants to do in life. She doesn’t let guys use her, she uses them. She’s going through some hardships with her family and life. Kaya wants to help her dad out and goes about it in a dangerous way.

    Kaya and Xander have met previously but Xander was too drunk. Then night they “met again” she tells him they met before. Things get hot and heavy between them once night and since then Xander can’t get Kaya out of his head. He takes care of her. Protects her. Tells her to adapt. After a boxing fight Xander and Kaya have a moment and then Xander is rushed to the hospital. When he’s sent home him and Kaya have another moment. A day later Kaya has to meet up with someone to help her dad out. Only it doesn’t go the way she was hoping. Xander finds out from a tip and gets there right before anything happens to Kaya. He’s upset but he gets it, he wishes he knew because he wants to take care of her. Kaya and Xander learn to trust each other and are enjoying their hot, messy life together. Xander has to be sent to the hospital again and needs surgery. They don’t know what this surgery will do to Xander until he wakes up. It’s like a wake up call with his brothers and they tell him they don’t want to hold him back in The District. They want him to live his life. Xander and Kaya decide to travel the world and enjoy their hot messy life together.

    I've been saving Xanders' book because reading it meant the end of the Kids of the district books 🥺 Kaya and Xander were honestly so broken and beautiful together. I loved their story so much. And as promised by Nicci, I did definitely need the tissues.
    When u know u know and their story proved that. I loved the Sylvania element it honestly had me cackling at the end with the pictures.

    This series has been such a huge part of my life for such a long time. These characters are everything. I’ve cried with them, smiled with them and hurt for them.

    I’ve been waiting for Xander’s story for such a long time and as bitter sweet as it is knowing this is the last book in the series, I couldn’t wait to read it and I devoured it. Nicci didn’t disappoint one bit.
    Xander’s story was everything I needed. Nicci’s writing is incredible and will hook you immediately. She will make you feel every possible emotion, you’ll be hot from Xander’s dirty mouth, laughing at his playfulness and then bawling your eyes out. My heart was breaking and I ugly cried more than once during this.

    Kaya was perfect and I loved her strength. As always Nicci finds the perfect partners for all the Butcher Boys.

    I’ve said if each time but I will say it again, I always think I know who my favourite Butcher is but then Nicci makes it so hard to choose. Each brother is so special and Max has always been my favourite but now Xander has a spot firmly alongside him.

    I loved seeing the family moments. Them being together and bonding are my favourite moments.

    A five star read from a five star series that owns me.
    This isn’t the end as I know I’ll reread these books over and over.

    I have a soft spot for the Butcher Boys. I have really enjoyed all the books in this series. Nicci is a wordsmith and has created a world full of robust multifaceted characters. Xander and Kaya are no exception. My heart broke for these two and I was so happy that they found solace and love in one another. Their connection was raw and honest and real. I laughed and cried and devoured every word.

    What I loved most about this book however, was the connection between the brothers. The love and care they have for one another is so deeply rooted in their motivations but this book did a beautiful job of them moving forward in their relationships and verbalizing that love. I really felt this was healing for all of them and tied the series together wonderfully.

    This will be a series I will go back to again and again. Each book stands strongly on its own and together they weave an outstanding narrative.

    The day has come. The story of Xander and Kaya concluded the Kids of the District series. I am at a loss for words for how phenomenal, beautiful and emotional this book is. Questions were answered, secrets were revealed and the Butcher men found their happily ever after. Everything was perfect.

    Xander was a baby no more. He wanted his voice heard, a place in Cosa Nostra like his brothers did. It was not without a price. All his life, he tended to the needs of his family. He never had time for himself, to live the life he wanted. Until a sassy, quirky vixen came along, he saw a future with her. Their damaged souls, their complicated personalities, their intense passion just made sense to one another. Over time, instant attraction turned into deep attachment and they formed an unbreakable bond.

    Kaya got into a bit of trouble after her dad was arrested for fraud. She was desperate for money and got involved with the wrong people. Being with Xander made her see life in a different light. Her values, her family, her aspiration to be a photographer. She was better because of him and vice versa. Their love was explosive and messy, yet they grounded each other in a way that no one ever had. They felt seen, heard and treasured. The growth they experienced individually and together was amazing to see.

    Some of the best moments were between the Butcher men. They were by no means perfect. They made mistakes but owned up to it, fixed it. While they might not be best at communicating their feelings, they love each other deeply. The brotherly love was overflowing and left me a crying mess. I loved the scenes with everyone together, interacting and learning about one another. I had never loved a family more than I did them.

    It definitely felt bittersweet as the Butcher era came to an end, but they will forever live in my heart. Nicci, your writing is impeccable and you made me fall in love with every character you wrote. You gave us incredible stories as a writer and you gave us unlimited support as a friend. I am so glad to be on your team and I cannot wait to continue this journey with you.
