The Keeper's Cup: A Controversial Archaeological Thriller Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 478 ratings

IS THERE A DIFFERENT TRUTH BEHIND THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD?

From the multi-award-winning author of
The Lazarus Succession and The Patmos Enigma, The Keeper's Cup is a novel rich in history and rife with intrigue. A recommended read for fans of Dan Brown and James Rollins.

What if everything we know about Jesus and Mary Magdalene are wrong?
What if there's another version of their story, that when revealed, could rock the Christian world?
What will powerful factions within the Vatican do to get hold of this information?

And how did Christianity appear in England long before the early saints arrived?

Publisher's Note: The Keeper's Cup is heavy on the subject of Gnosticism and is not recommended for conservative Catholics or Christians.

Near the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered, archaeologists
unearth scrolls supposedly written by the apostles, Philip and Thomas. And they're telling a different story...

Death quickly follows. The Pope funds a secret excavation team to verify the stories of the apostles. What they discover is
a tale buried under Britain's mysterious past. A history that's different from what we know.

Review

"I have become a fan of these archaeological-religious mysteries, and this one is a great addition to that genre!"

"Whether you are religious or not, this story is so well written you have to ask yourself... Is this even possible? Maybe it is. Maybe it isn't. The real question is... Is your mind open enough to consider the possibility that Jesus didn't die on the cross? What an interesting concept, extremely well written. Bravo, Ken Fry."

"I found the premise of this novel to be fascinating. The characters are well developed, the plot fast paced. It was hard to put it down!"

From the Author

I suspect that The Keeper's Cup will upset some people of various religious denominations. This was never my intent, but I don't doubt there will be reaction. I can't help that nor make apology. At all times, I have attempted to show loving kindness and respect.

Pre-Constantine Christianity had much to say before, but with a large swipe of his brush, much of the early writings of the Essenes and others, were doomed to the bin by the Emperor, (who only became a Christian on his deathbed). Including the writings of both disciples, Thomas and Philip.

Since there was no mention of miracles or Christ's crucifixion, their words were deemed not worthy.

Through history, The Magdalene has been portrayed as a prostitute. The amounting evidence that she was a woman of huge spiritual dimension contradicted the patriarchal dimensions of men as superior. Hence the appellation. That has now been refuted.

The canonical Gospels themselves fail to agree on certain points. So... what can be trusted? The entire issue has fascinated me for many years. I would love to know if it was true or not, but the evidence always appeared shaky to me.

Because of that, my story attempts to place a new perspective on events. I'm aware that at times that can be clumsy, but it was written with hope and joy.

How did Christianity appear in England long before the early saints arrived?
That, I think, is an intriguing question. Don't you agree?

That factor alone made my story worth writing about. Highly speculative, it is. Though, no more so than people walking on water or changing water into wine.

At the end of the day it is a story... nothing else. I don't ask you to believe it. It's not about that. It's about a deep love of humanity and the cruelties that entwine that concept.

I have long been a fan of Ken Fry’s books. He takes great pains to add accurate historical fact and lore to his fictions to give them an added ring of credibility and believability. He weaves in his own amazing plots and incredibly realistic characters thus creating novels that entrance and intrigue. THE KEEPER’S CUP certainly lives up to his standard of excellence, in spite of one reviewer’s comments regarding some rather minor editing problems, which most certainly do not detract from enjoying or understanding this fascinating story.

I certainly do not know if the Gospel of Thomas or the Gospel of Philip are indeed true and accurate accounts of the life and times of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, but Mr. Fry’s tale is a curiosity at the least, and a real thinker at the most. Reading Fry’s Author’s Note, I have to wonder if our faith should rightly be based on solely an arbitrary approval and disapproval of which gospels and Christian writings should be included in Christianity and the bible, and which should be thrown out, by an emperor who became a Christian just prior to his death.

I was completely enthralled by this book from the very beginning to the final word. As much as I wanted to know how it all came together in the end, I did hate when the tale was finished. It seems to me that at least one sequel could be written, though, and I do hope Mr. Fry has that in mind. I won’t say more, though because I don’t give out spoilers.

I definitely recommend THE KEEPER’S CUP most highly to everyone who likes Christian Fiction, fans of Dan Brown, anyone fascinated by Biblical Archeology, and to those who simply love a great, well-told tale.

This novel combines archaeology, Vatican intrigue, and a touch of the supernatural. Did Jesus survive the crucifixion and with his wife, Mary Magdalene, escape first to France and then to Great Britain? Three modern seekers try to track down this story and a mystical cup that healed all who drank from it. Add in a murderous cardinal and his accomplices and you have a great adventure story! I have become a fan of these archaeological-religious mysteries, and this one is a great addition to that genre!

I read all the time. Three to seven books each week. This story was well considered and well plotted. I thought initially that it must have been translated from another language, but that wasn't the case. The stilted language which I thought was caused by translation was just poor writing. I also blame weak editing as many of the grammatical mistakes should have been caught and corrected by a competent editor. It really is a shame, after all it was a good story.

Good story, well written. Only controversial if you are closed minded. As a student of metaphysics and comparative religions for most of my life, I found this story to be well researched and well presented.

I enjoyed this immensely, in short, Jesus doesn't die on the cross, I'll say no more. The characters in the present day looking for answers for their own agendas were well rounded and fortunately, had more substance than many of the cliched good vs bad scenarios. Personally I would have liked to have read more on Jesus and his journey but it doesn't detract from what is a damn good read.
