Unchained: A K9 Thriller of Survival, Sacrifice, and the Hunt for the Truth (Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 4,161 ratings

In a struggle to escape his past, Rex Dalton is unleashed against those who prey on the innocent.

To stay alive, Dalton must live as though he’s dead, and fleeing to India with his military dog, Digger, is the ideal escape. Heading for Kapal Mochan, Dalton wants more than just refuge. He intends to dip his hand in the sacred spring, a powerful act of purification aimed at shedding his violent past once and for all.

But Dalton’s resolve is tested when a mysterious man reveals that his daughter is missing. Unable to turn away, he and Digger plunge into a perilous investigation that leads from an unscrupulous money lender in Mumbai to an illicit arms dealer in Saudi Arabia, and a shadowy criminal underworld of suffering, exploitation, and death.

As Dalton delves deeper, he discovers it's not just the girl who is in peril. Countless others are caught in an unimaginable web of despair. But to help, he must first ensure his own survival, and that may be the greatest challenge of all.

Unchained is the pulse-pounding second installment in JC Ryan’s electrifying Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers series.

What readers are saying about the Rex Dalton Series:

Sheila LS - Top Contributor. Can't Read This Series Fast Enough!! I had no idea these books were so good when I first started or I would not have already downloaded other Kindle Unlimited books... I haven't read any series as exciting as Ty Patterson's Warrior series until now.

You really need to start reading this series from the beginning because what happened to Rex in this first book is what made him the way he is. He is a very determined person and does not stop at anything to take down the bad guys--especially if they are terrorist or if it is a group that is funding terrorist. Even though this is his main mindset, he still wants to protect the innocent that inadvertently get in the way...

Texas - This author belongs on the same shelf as Ludlum and Follette and those other guys! My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets.

Margaret Bentley - I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military-trained super-intelligent dog.

Greg D - Rex Dalton was the deadliest agent the government had at their disposal- a one-man unstoppable force in the war on terrorism in the Middle East. With his famous ability to pick up new languages with ease, he figures he can blend into almost any culture and root out evil. What could go wrong? Well, it turns out, plenty.

E. I. HOOD - I was not a fan of the first Rex Dalton book but plunged ahead with the second hoping JC Ryan would not disappoint. I loved it. Now here I am after reading the third book in this series. I had a hard time putting it down and found myself wondering about it when I was not reading.

40 year pioneer - Each book in this series gets even better. This has a fascinating, even though hard to fathom, plot, worked out in intricate detail. Rex Dalton is a mirror of all of us - overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds to achieve great things.

Kindle Customer - From a master storyteller comes another thrilling ride by Rex Dalton. From the sands of Afghanistan to the culture of India the story moves at a breathless pace. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

Kindle Customer - Rex Dalton rocks! Another great read from JC Ryan. I've read all of his books and am never disappointed! All I can say is....MORE!

Interesting story premise right out of the news. A beautiful young Indian girl is trafficked to a wicked arms dealer in Saudi Arabia. Rex promises to find her and bring her back to her family. The chase is on and Red rescues not one but seven woman from the arms dealer's harem.

Easy to read and understand. I’m glad Rex is so talented with languages and has Digger. Also he is fearless. I really enjoy books with the main character having a close dog companion who seems to understand him. I’ll probably read all your books as long as Digger lives.

This was an intriguing story where Rex and his new companion attempt a new life of leisure, but instead get caught up in a new friends' devastating story of his daughter's disappearance. When Rex and Digger decide to try and find the missing young woman, they both get way more than either bargained for. It's a terrific story that you won't want to miss.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.

This is the second Rex Dalton book I’ve read and it gripped my attention as much as the first one. The storyline is fast paced and the characters well developed. Although one in a series, the books can be standalone. In my opinion these books are well worth reading and I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who is interested in this particular genre

Reviewed in Australia on January 29, 2020
Another exciting well written story of good winning out over evil as Rex learns more about Digger, the dog he has inherited. This resulted from the ambush in Afghanistan that killed the dogs handler and the rest of the team Rex headed, in the previous book by this author - THE POWER OF THREE.
Rex and Digger are on the road in India when they meet an elderly Indian who is mesmerised by the interactions between Rex and Digger, and this leads to a dinner invitation at the Indian’s home. Following the meal Rex learns of the disappearance of the Indian couple’s youngest daughter who left home to go to University, and he makes the decision to try and track his host’s daughter down.
This then sets the scene for a visit to Saudi Arabia where Rehka, the daughter, has seemingly ended up as a member of the harem of a minor Saudi prince who is also an arms dealer – anathema to Rex. This makes for an exciting story with many fights involving Rex and Digger and a great deal of payback dished out by Rex. The end result is the escape of a number of females from the Harem and the destruction of the criminal empire of the Prince. This also sets Rex up with further funds, which enables him to fund the futures of Rehka and the other girls that have escaped. And along the way, Rex’s previous boss, John Brandt, the CEO of the paramilitary organisation Crisis Response Consultancy (CRC) who suspects Rex may have escaped the ambush in Afghanistan, sets a team to follow up this suspicion.
An excellent story line which is well written and looks like it seamlessly leads in to the next offering from this author – SIDESWIPED, which has now been added to my library and is begging for my attention!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great chapter in the continuing sage of Re Dalton
Reviewed in Canada on June 26, 2020
If you like multi book sagas that have a continuing story and characters, you will enjoy this book and/or the set. I found it difficult to put down as I was interested in what happens next. Having said that, the books move along at a fast pace and are what I would consider an easy read. You can get through them in short order and move on to the next volume. I also like having a main character as dog, which is something I haven't seen often. The only negative is the wait for the next book in the series. Bring on the next volume.
