Coastal Cahoots Club: A seaside town love story Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

Thirty-year-old Tessa Archer is an emotional eater who is full of self-loathing and lacking confidence – she’s a woman who is desperate to change if only she had the nerve.

Her cause isn’t helped by her family whose all-round lack of regard, belief and simple love make her life a whole lot harder. Unable to match up to her ‘perfect’ siblings, a brutal family dinner pushes Tessa to take the first tentative steps towards transformation.

Inventing a girls’ weekend away, she plans a short break in Cornwall – alone. It’s a place where she hopes she can feel reinvigorated about life, even if she’s terrified of the prospect. This is a last-ditch attempt to prove to her family that she isn’t the scared, useless ‘lump’ they think she is.

Once in St. Ives, with no expectations or standards to uphold, Tessa finally feels as though she can breathe, and not just because the air is cleaner. She pushes herself to meet new people and finally concentrates on her own life.

With the help of the Coastal Cahoots Club, a group of crazy elderly ladies, led by the indomitable Winnie, a new Tessa emerges. There’s even the possibility of love with Winnie’s sexy grandson Ben – if only he was willing to open up his heart.

Who knew a group of old-aged pensioners, a sexy bar owner, a militant seamstress, and a beautiful Cornish coastal town could bring such magic to a person’s life?
Read this beautiful and poignant story and fall in love with the wonderful cast of characters and their gorgeous surroundings, because life can be amazing if you just learn to trust it.

My sides and cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling through this book.  I want Winnie to adopt me. Is just I needed a breath of fresh air. That will make you want to find your place to breathe. Thank you Victoria Johns for a great read.

Tessa's family is toxic to her. They treat her differently because they are all swans and she is the ugly duckling. To avoid a horrible blind date, she makes up a vacation with coworkers to the beach. Going alone, she meets a wonderful old woman who takes her under her wing. When offers her a job as her carer, Tessa declines at first. After returning home, she changes her mind.
    Opinion
This is such an endearing and hilarious story. Tessa is able to gain some perspective on her life and realize what is important. The reader can follow along her journey and perhaps even gain perspective about their own lives.
The Coastal Cahoots Club ladies are downright funny. Ben is swoonworthy. Tessa shows the insecurities most women have and learns ways to combat them with the help of Winnie
I did not want to put this book down. It lives up to Ms. Johns' other books' standards as it is written so beautifully. The reader feels almost like family.
Many thanks to Bare Naked Words for providing me with an ARC of this book.

This is the first book I have read by the author and it really hits home if you are someone who has struggled with being overweight and the negative thoughts that accompany it. As the story opens, it took a lot to hold in my commentary as I just wanted to give Tessa’s family a what for as their treatment of her was abominable but they were doing it in a loving way for her own good, right? NOT! As a creature of habit, she is not one who is usually spontaneous nor carefree so when she is pushed to her breaking point, Tessa makes the decision to get away to St. Ives. To say it was the best decision of her life is an understatement as she meets some wonderful people who help her to put some color back in her world while discovering love. Overall, this is one powerful storyline that shows Tessa’s journey of self-discovery and learning to love herself.

    Hilarious!
Absolutely, one of the most refreshing, real life books I’ve read in awhile. Everyone who has experienced the lasting effects of gaslighting must read this pound of perfection. Tessa Archer embodies all women and the insecurities that are fostered by those we love, hate, and avoid. Tessa has reached her limit and takes the leap to celebrate her true self. She finds inspiration in a group of older ladies who help guide her course of self discovery through humor, connection, acceptance, and love.
An awe inspiring story that deserves more than five stars!!

Who does not love a beach trip and a great beach read. I know that I do! So when I had the chance to read the Coastal Cahoots Club, I knew I would not be disappointed. This is such a light read that it is perfect to get lost in on a Saturday afternoon sitting on the porch. This book wants me to find a group of women just like the club and be able to do life with this. A great summer read!!  I hated to put it down.

Loved how real this book was. How much can one take be criticized for how you represent yourself. After going on an unplanned trip you begin to feel alive and more secure.

Absolutely adored this beautiful story. Victoria Johns is an absolute diamond. You have captured the essence of Tessa Archer so well. I felt so much empathy for Tess. I cried, I laughed and roared with with laughter, at the most inappropriate times. Thank you for telling a story from aspect which rarely told. A story a plus size girl can relate to, in so many ways.

Absolutely loved this book. Tessa, all her baggage and hang ups, highs and lows, is someone all normal women will relate too. With all the social media lies and filters, this made for a fantastically written and refreshingly honest read.
