The Wandering Inn by Pirate Aba completely took me by surprise. 😲 I went in expecting a cozy fantasy—a lighthearted, slice-of-life adventure—but what I got was a story that starts off like Archie Comics 📖 and escalates into something with the emotional weight and epic stakes of Avengers: Endgame. 💥😭

Pirate Aba crafts an astonishingly rich world, but what truly makes this book shine is the depth of its characters. 💖 The main cast isn’t just well-written; they live on the page, each with their own struggles, growth, and deeply human moments. There’s a scene where two characters simply play chess. ♟️ That’s it—just a game of chess. And yet, by the time it was over, it had ripped my heart out 💔 and left me staring into the void. 😵‍💫

The story snowballs brilliantly, starting small and intimate before expanding into something breathtaking in scope. 🌍✨ It’s unpredictable, heartfelt, and completely engrossing. I loved every second of it. 😍

Highly recommended for anyone who loves great storytelling, unforgettable characters, and books that sneak up on you and wreck your emotions in the best way possible. 📚🔥

I honestly can’t believe I waited this long to read The Wandering Inn. I’ve known about it for a while but kept putting it off, and now that I’ve finally read it, I’m kicking myself because I absolutely loved it.

The story begins with Erin, a character who’s unexpectedly transported to a fantasy world and opens an inn. At first, it feels like a cozy, low-stakes kind of story, but it quickly expands into something much bigger. The stakes rise, the world-building deepens, and multiple plotlines unfold that kept me hooked all the way through.

One of my favorite aspects was the leveling-up system. Characters gain new skills as they complete tasks, which gives the story a video game-like feel. While it might sound silly at first, it adds an exciting and fun dynamic to the plot. Watching Erin and the other characters learn about this new system as they go was a blast, and it was great seeing them grow and level up in the process.

Another thing I really loved was how Erin manages to unite all these different characters at her inn, despite their vastly different backgrounds. She doesn’t care about who’s supposed to get along with whom—she just wants everyone to coexist peacefully. Whether it’s goblins, humans, or other races, Erin’s kindness and desire for harmony shine through. The friendships she builds are one of the heartwarming elements of the story.

I also wasn’t expecting to enjoy the chess aspect as much as I did. While I’m not a huge chess fan, Erin’s love for the game added an interesting layer to the story. Her enthusiasm for it drew me in, and I ended up learning a bit about the game along with her.

As for the characters, Erin is easy to root for, and I really enjoyed following her journey. However, there’s one character—Ryoka—whose chapters I struggled to connect with. She’s often guarded, lost in her own thoughts, and at times comes off as aloof and self-absorbed. While I didn’t dislike her chapters, I definitely enjoyed them less than the rest of the book. That said, by the end, I’m curious to see where her story goes, though I’m still unsure about her.

The world-building in this book is fantastic. The settings, creatures, and different races feel so real, and the level of detail made me feel like I was right there alongside the characters. The world feels vast, and I’m excited to explore more in the upcoming books.

All in all, The Wandering Inn is an incredible start to a series that I’m eager to continue. I’m already ready to dive into book two!

There’s no real way to summarize the massive 1st volume of this ongoing story that online is already up to volume 5. It’s a serial story, that’s been written over the last couple of years and continues to grow weekly.

It’s essentially a slice of life LitRPG story that in this volume is a bit light on the RPG stuff. Characters level, magic and skills exist in the world but it’s more part of the cultural aspect of the world than anything pointedly game oriented.

If you’re bothered by light RPG mechanics, don’t be, the story more than makes up for that. The story follows two humans (hints at more) that were transported to a fantasy world where RPG mechanics are apart of the world. One gets the Innkeeper class when she stumbles into an abandoned inn and struggles to survive. The other becomes a runner, a on foot package delivery person, because she loves to run and be free. While neither story sounds compelling, they are.

Though the start of the novel is a bit slow, things pick up by the 5% and the story explodes with world building, progression, character growth, and even some comedy. It’s a slice of life story, which means you follow the two characters as they just do things daily in this new world but it’s still very interesting. I personally loved the thought and time the author put into developing the unique cultures of the monster races. The insect people were different from the lizard people and the gnolls. Each felt like they had a distinct culture and outlook on the world.

And that end, woah, was that an amazing action fest.

Not only is this novel a huge value for the page count, it’s engaging enough to keep you reading late into the night for multiple days. I just couldn’t put the thing down. Truly a great read.

So, I am currently reading the second volume and I am...
...buying the first one after I've read it. Because this author deserves support. This book it THAT good. Also, the voice actor reading the audiobook version is also AMAZING. I found myself missing her voice when I was reading.

Yes, there are problems. A little bit of silly things here and there, and the author is...lenghty. Repetitive. Verbose. Often writes the same concept again and again. Kinda using a lot of words expressing the same thing. Like I am doing right now. Yep. Goes on and on.

    But. Still.
The plot is original, the characters are great, it's overall well written and just entertaining. I was looking for something light, not too emotinally demanfing, but instead I devoured it and found myself sinking into this world. I just hope it keeps being this good!

5.0 out of 5 stars A thick slab of delicious story

Not a statistically heavy LitRPG, but even those who love that style would be hard pressed to deny that this body of work serves the genre magnificently.

The characters and story make this book easily worth the time spent reading. The world the author has created has the weight of history without being too dense to chew, and has a scope that excites with possibility. The game elements are embedded as central concepts: Vital and yet not so overbearing that they draw the reader from the story.

Against my miserly instincts I feel it necessary to advise that the price when I purchased was far too low. Buy it now before the author comes to their senses.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to the series it will become

I love the Wandering Inn series too much, to a point that I have to limit my exposure to it. It’s a web serial and, historically, once I start reading those I keep on reading and I can’t stop until I reach the end (thanks ADHD). And I know that The Wandering Inn would be one of those that would suck me in, so I’m really thankful that it’s here in book form.
In expectation of the 9th book, Tears of Liscor, coming out I’ve been reading back through all the other 8 and it’s been really interesting. And that’s where this review is coming from, a fan that’s read a lot of the books already and is retrospective.
And the first thing that hit me with this book was that it had a surprisingly slow start. Which is not to say that nothing happens to begin with. On the contrary it pretty much throws you right in and it’s a good introduction to the series as a whole. But, as the title suggests, this is a series primarily centring around an inn and I don’t think it really begins until the inn gets some customers. Which doesn’t happen until 6% of the way into the book.
Once those first guests to arrive though we’re off. And what a journey we’re about to embark on.
Web serials don’t always make the best books, because the format doesn’t always work well if you cut it into chunks. That’s not a problem this book has though. It’s a fantastic book on it’s own, though at over a thousand pages it is pretty long. And those pages are not wasted. This book contains so much. It’s got humour, action, excitement, politics and horror, all expertly written. It’s doing a lot of setting things up for the rest of the series going forward but it contains a perfect arc, all of the different elements introduced coming together in an explosive finale. And it’s got a great hook to get you interested in the next book as well.
What I personally found really interesting though was some of the changes that were made later on. This is just the first book in a long series and, while a lot of things were set up, you can see other parts where ideas are introduced that are later changed or discarded. A lot of the characters are introduced here that will have changed quite a bit after a few books. And not in a ‘the character evolved’ way, just that their backstories have been subtly tweaked and changed. It’s also fascinating to see subtle hints even this early on to what they will eventually become.
And speaking of the characters, that’s what really drives this series. Oh, the world is interesting and intricate and the LitRPG setting is nice in it’s minimalism but the characters are what’s going to keep drawing you back. There’s Erin, the accidental Innkeeper, who went to the bathroom and ended up in another world. Pisces, the outcast Necromancer, who is a character that has layers. Ryoka, who likes running more than she likes people. These are deep characters who will surprise you as the story goes along, even if just because you’ve forgotten who they really are deep down.
And this book is a fantastic introduction to all of it. It shows you a world of wonders and horrors, of friendship and enemies. It introduces great characters and makes you weep at their deaths. It all begins here, in this amazing book and then it invites you to read the next one, where things get even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Fantasy sagas I've ever read
Reviewed in Spain on September 4, 2018
And I've read a lot. My girlfriend and I call these books the "cursed books" because we cannot stop reading. The world Pirateaba has built is amazing, rich and complex. And finally a book with female lead characters that are not in a love triangle or loosing their minds for the pretty/bad boy on duty. It reminds me of Song of Ice and Fire not in the plot but in the many rich characters that you end up loving and caring for. It's not finished so let's see how it ends, but I'm finishing the Volume 4 (BIG volumes) and I still haven't found a "slower" one.
And this is all the spare time I give myself to write. Sorry, I have to finish the Volume 4.

I im usually not a fan of the slice of life genre, But this book, this masterpiece, is just beautifully incredible. The story flow so easily that reading it feel as natural as drinking water, a fact even more remarquable given the length of each chapter (but still never enough <3).

This natural feelings is also present within the world, it's characters, all more colorful than the other and yet so real. You feel the emotions so clearly that you may believe your are participating in it.

    Easly my favorite book.
