Laugh out loud. Yes, the author deals with some very serious issues. Yet, she does do it in a humorous way for the most part. Real life is real life- sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. I especially liked that the story is about an older heroine who finds happiness. She really can't help that she is surrounded by a cast of characters! Can she?☺

Wasn't too bad but did Holly really need to go for an abortion?? Did that have to be in this book, which I considered light comedy? Not sure how it ended bc I refused to finish it after 3 quarters thru. Absolutely unnecessary!

In the tradition of her earlier books, this is a fun and humorous read. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. The story moved at a good pace and I had to force myself to sleep and saved the ending for the morning. Nice work of light fiction.

Rosie wins money and Frank, her husband gets run over by a pizza delivery truck. With Frank’s death and her win, the people wanting to get her hands on her money come out of the woodwork. Then she meets Archie, who is really Alfred but what’s important about a name. This was the first thing that made me giggle. Rosie just couldn’t get Alfred’s name correct and he gives up on correcting her. The fun, the entertainment, and the giggles continue throughout the rest of the book.

The book is set in the UK and the language in ‘local English’ but I found myself really enjoying the different wording, the different spellings, and the different conversations. The last few books by Lynda Renham have been thrillers, which I enjoyed, but I liked that she returned to the style of writing that I first knew her for. The quirky characters, the fun storyline, and the great friendships are what drew me to Lynda as an author.

When Archie Met Rosie is a book for all readers. There is life lessons, friendships, family drama, and so much fun within the story. I recommend picking up your own copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cleverly written book with a gorgeous cover

We meet Rosie at a life-changing moment when her ordinary world is completely turned upside down. Paris, or rather the dream of Paris, becomes a little thread of hope that winds its way through some of her toughest days. As she is coming to terms with her new normal, a chance meeting with a family from a wealthier area unexpectedly leads to friendship and confidences that span generations. Archie is lonely following the death of his wife but would rather be on his own than be manipulated by his overbearing family. Meeting Rosie gives him much needed companionship and the possibility of a brighter future.

Written in the first person, with each chapter from the point of view of a different character, this book is a great glimpse into what goes on inside the heads of others. Lynda cleverly includes different ages from different backgrounds, all wanting different things from life and we learn their insecurities, regrets, hopes and dreams. She covers death, loneliness, debt and inheritance as well as family dynamic, age, affaires and virginity, but with humour too.

I really enjoyed this book that highlights that we often don’t realise what we’ve got until it’s gone and I’m sure it’s one that will make you think, nurture your dreams of Paris and feel good inside. It would be a perfect companion to a lazy Sunday afternoon.
