Wicked Omen (The Royals: Warlock Court Book 1) Kindle Edition
All my life the only kind of magic I’d ever seen was the sparkling jewels on fifth avenue. On the night of my sixteenth birthday all hell breaks loose, and by hell I mean me! I never felt power like this, so dark, so tempting, so out of my control! No one is safe around me. And now I’m being thrown into Warwick Academy.
An academy for the darker side of magic. . .the warlock side.
My captor, my savior, and the bane of my existence, Beckett Dust insists on keeping me here even though we can’t stand each other. I don’t care how drop dead gorgeous he is or that he rules the school like he owns it, I need to stay as far away from him as I can. His deepest desire is to turn me into a weapon in the great war to come. My deepest desire is . . .him. There’s a thin line between love and hate and right now I’m walking it.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2021Magical. Haunting. Delightful.
I love books about witches, warlocks, and magic. I have a selection of those books over the years. It seems as if I cannot get enough of those books. I have read a few different versions of witches, warlocks, and magic. I came across Megan Montero ’s The Royals series back in 2019. I was intrigued by Witch Court within the first few chapters. I had the next season on my list for some time. I had a feeling that I was going to like Wicked Omen , and I should know that I was going to fall in love. My feelings about this book, I’m not even sure if I can explain all of them, there are so many of them. I loved Zinnia’s story and going on adventures along with her. I love Astrid’s story even more, at least so far. Astrid is fierce. You cannot help but love her. I cannot imagine finding out she’s a warlock, the way that she had. If I were here, I would be scared too. I wish they found a better way to tell her that did not include them kidnapping her.
Beckett. I had mixed feelings about him since he was introduced in Witch Court season. At the same time, I was curious about him. Wicked Omen gave me a different side of Beckett. It did not take me long until he became one of my favorite characters in the book. Beckett and Astrid. Their relationship is a bit complicated. It’s clear that they are attracted to each other, but neither wants to admit their feelings. I understand why Beckett is hard on Astrid, but I feel that he is overprotective of her. I felt he is sending mixed signals to her; one minute, he is fighting with her, and then he is kissing her. It’s no wonder that Astrid is confused. Another character you cannot help but love is Medusa, and I know it’s hard to believe. I loved the way that she was portrayed in the book. I love how she bonded with Astrid; maybe all she needed is a friend. I have a feeling that the two of them are going to be good friends. I’m curious to see if she appears in the other books in the series.
I love how action-packed Wicked Omen was, and there was always something happening. That ending…I’m not even sure how to feel about it. I’m glad that I have the next book in the series; I need to find out what happens with Astrid. From everyone in the book, she’s the character who develops the most; she is not the same girl at the beginning of the book. I’m eager to see what happens with her, Beckett, Ophelia in the next book. I’m also curious to see what she thinks about Zinnia. Do you love fantasy? Magic? This is a book that you should check out. Wicked Omen is unique and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024I enjoyed this book as a companion to the others! I would recommend for youth but there are some spicer parts. Can't wait to read more about the Royals!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2023However, over multiple books, I’m shocked to see how many spelling errors and wrong word usages there are. Yes, I know these things happen, but the sheer number of them is surprising. Sometimes, even the characters names are misspelled. However, if you can get beyond that, this author is a very good story teller. I just think her proofreader needs to have another go at it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2019Wicked Omen (The Royals: Warlock Court) is the first book in the second “season” of The Royals. At the end of Wicked Queen, Beck and Grayson are sent home to sort out their houses (warlock and vampire) this is Beck’s story. While you don’t have to start with the first set of books, I highly recommend it. There will be spoilers from the first season in this review- consider yourself warned.
Beckett Dust has returned home, to Warwick Academy. One a mission from the angels to take his place as one of the founding bloodlines. Purpose take over the warlock council and throw support to Queen Zinnia. Only in order for him to take over the council he has to have all five founding bloodlines supporting him. Four are known, he grew up with him and are his ride or die guys. The fifth they thought didn’t exist. Until now- Beckett along with Maze, Cross and Ophelia are sent to a nightclub to help a warlock who is coming into their powers. One who may be from one of the founding bloodlines. Little did they know that the warlock they would come to know is actually a girl (all of the other heirs are guys). One who Beckett is pulled towards more than he admits.
Beckett is a Knight whose purpose is to protect the Queens and help them fight Alataris. So color him surprised when he is sent home. Home is not where the heart is, but instead where the pain is. Let’s not forget his guardian Ridge (who needs to die painfully and slowly), who happens to be the headmaster. There is a lot of pressure placed on Beck, and with his attraction to Astrid coming into play at times he seems like a jackbehind.
Astrid is new to this world. She is adapting okay, but fights Beckett on everything. Girl I get it, you are independent and don’t need no man. They are still nice to have around to reach the top shelf of the cabinet or to open a jar that is stuck- just saying. She is use to being alone, with only her bestie to keep her company. So I understand why she feels that she can’t let Beckett control her, still though sister something has gotta give in order for you to find “love”. Astrid has some mad powers, and they are not all unlocked. It will be interesting to see what happens when they are.
This one ends on a cliffhanger- one where one of the characters realizes how much they care and the other pain is involved. I cannot wait to see what happens next, and if the chemistry between these two heats up! Here is hoping to yes! I also want to know more about the other founding bloodline heirs. Most importantly though, will Ophelia and Cross kiss?
- Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2024I absolutely love all of the characters. Make sure you start from the very first book. Don’t miss a word.
