Art evaluator Miles Tate is finally about to start living his dream… that is if he can get the funding in place to open his own art gallery in New York. But when an unexpected turn of events finds every one of Miles’ perfectly-planned dreams turned upside-down, it’s time to escape Manhattan and reluctantly take up a well-paid job in the tiny seaside town of Hope’s Bluff, Georgia. For Miles, it’s his only chance to make some money, claw back what little dignity he has left, and figure out what the hell to do with his life.
But evaluating the art collection of a deceased estate isn’t made easy by the grandson of the dearly departed. Indeed, the young man who calls himself Rainbow is a hot-tempered, hotter-than-hell artist whose secrets run deep and passions run raw. He is talented, troubled, tempestuous and deaf... and possibly the one person who can save Miles from his own heartache.
Can Miles finish the job he’s been paid to do… or will two opposites find that they have more in common than they first imagined? Can the pair of them find the strength in each other to rebuild their lives… or will the traumas of their pasts drive them both away? Will Miles turn his back on the handsome, hurt, artistic genius he’s stumbled upon… or will he finally find true love in the arms of a Boy Called Rainbow?

- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2025I’m sitting here mere seconds after finishing the book and I’m choked up, tears running down my face. Such a beautiful story. I don’t have the words adequate enough to encapsulate my feelings.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2023This book was really moving. I loved that it moved from New York City to a beachside town near Savannah. Miles is down on his luck. His partner of 10 years is a total tool. Marcus (the partner) is so self-serving, it’s ridiculous. After completely betraying Miles’s trust (and frankly spewing a lot of mean things), Miles leaves Marcus and the bright lights of the big city for the town of Hope’s Bluff, GA. He’s been hired to evaluate some art on behalf of Franklin, Jr., who is one of the worst human beings on the planet. Nothing nice ever comes out of Franklin’s mouth. He’s vile through and through.
Franklin’s brother, Ryan-Beau, AKA Rainbow, is a passionate and turbulent soul. Rainbow’s actually really kind and caring once you get to know him, he’s just been screwed over a lot by people. His grandmother Odette was one of the very few people to show him unconditional love. Local inn owner Delphine Dixon is one of the others. Rainbow and Odette were extremely close before her passing. Rainbow loves his and his grandmother’s art, her house, and his mouse Gilbert with all that he has.
Miles and Rainbow cross paths while Miles tries to evaluate Odette’s art. They have a less than stellar initial encounter or two. The pair begin to connect after Miles makes an effort to properly communicate with Rainbow, who is deaf. Does the reader have to suspend their disbelief over how quickly Miles learns ASL? Yes. Does it matter? No. I think the fact that he is willing to learn at all shows basic decency, good intent and character.
Miles and Rainbow are two broken souls who help one another piece themselves back together. Once their friendship and relationship begins, passions ignite and the pair find themselves swept up in the tides of their intense emotional connection. I really appreciated how accepting both MCs were of the other. They take each other as they are and don’t try to change their partner. It helped that Miles learned the reasoning behind Rainbow’s mood swings and general mistrust of people.
This book is a love story to art and healing. It takes on an otherworldly atmosphere with the impending hurricane and all of the references to great artists and their subjects/mediums. Knight uses beautiful language to describe the events of the book. His words take on an almost poetic zeal, using metaphors and magical realism to move the story along. Miles and Rainbow definitely have some challenges to overcome in this story - bad people who only know how to hurt, Mother Nature, insecurities - but the one thing they know well is the language of love.
This was my first book by Robin Knight. I look forward to reading more of his work in the future!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2024The descriptions that were done throughout the book were beautiful. The relationship between Miles and Rainbow was fast but well-done. However, some of the dialogue between characters were bulky and the sex scenes were... awkward. I don't know if the author is uncomfortable with writing about male genitalia or if it was just the way the character thought, but the way the sex acts are written are rather cringe worthy, like second-hand embarrassing. There were odd word choices as well as incorrect word usage multiple times throughout the book. I had a lot of excitement to read this, but there was a bit of a disappointment too.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2023I didn't know what to expect going into this book. How would the words of a deaf man be conveyed on the pages. All I can say is perfectly. The fact that the story is told from Miles POV yet you still feel like you knew Rainbow himself shows just how amazing Robin Knight can write. And I must mention Delphine. I need a few of her in my life. She was simply hilarious and was the perfect comic relief and balanced the story so well when your heart broke for Rainbow because of the horrible way his family, especially his brother treated him. Rainbow and Miles deserved the sweet HEA they got and then some. A Boy Called Rainbow was a true delight to read and definitely worthy of the 5 star review and more.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2024This romance story about Art Evaluator Miles and Artist “Rainbow” is engaging and entertaining. It has depth and enough tension to make it interesting. The MC Miles capture my attention from Chapter 1. MC Rainbow is the quintessential temperamental artist but with just cause. Then there is the nastiest antagonist to make this good storytelling.
OTOH, there needs to be some suspension of reality for readers. However, it is a good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2023I feel in love with this book from the very start. My heart absolutely broke for Miles and Rainbow in this book. Each deserved better than they had been handed but I felt as if they both were not really sure how to achieve that goal or if they really did deserve that for themselves. It took meeting each other for them to finally realize that there was better in the world and they deserved their piece of that as well. Then oh my them together is everything the way they connect when they finally do is just Oh, the way Miles fights for him like no one has before is so heart warming you'll just want more and more!! What I wouldn't give to see the world through Rainbow's eyes and with all his beautiful color.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2024A Boy Called Rainbow by Robin Knight. The cover is gorgeous. The story is heartbreaking and heartwarming, all at the same time. One of the main characters is deaf and the other is fleeing from the humiliation of a cheating partner, who everyone but the mc knew about. Throw in a quirky inn keeper, a house full of cats, a pet mouse and a dog, an evil brother, a grandmother’s legacy and a Cat 5 hurricane and you have a great story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, easy read with some interesting characters
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I will definitely be reading another. It was a wonderful, easy read, which is something I definitely need from time to time.
Rainbow lives in a beach house where he's lived since he was 16, after his brothers bullying and parent neglect became too much for him to endure. He lived there happily with his artist grandmother until she sadly passed away. Now his arrogant, powerful, bullying brother is determined to sell his grandmas paintings and make Rainbow, who he hates, homeless.
Miles is making his escape from New York after finding out his long time partner had been cheating on him for years and that almost everyone in their circle knew! He is an art evaluator and Rainbows brother, Fontaine Jnr, has insisted that he come to Hope's Bluff to evaluate his grandmothers paintings. Miles doesn't know what he's expecting, but finding Rainbow was a surprise. On first meeting he's attracted to Rainbow, but finds him moody and uncommunicative. All becomes clear when his eccentric, cat loving landlady Delphine explains that Rainbow is deaf and alone. Miles very quickly learns sign language and this makes communication easier between the two, especially when Rainbow realises that Miles isn't there to take away everything that's dear to him.
There are a few tiny plot-holes in the story, but that doesn't take away the enjoyment for the reader. The description of the hurricane was very detailed and I could totally imagine myself there with them battling the elements and the aftermath. I also loved the description of Rainbows attic room, with all the hanging jars and sea animals, along with Rainbows art. Delphine and Mr Getty were both eccentric but fabulous characters and I really hated the bullying Fontaine Jnr and his cronies. I just wished the hurricane had blitzed his mansion and he'd been eaten by the alligator!
All in all this is a wonderful, easy to ready story, with a beautiful mistreated deaf man finding his HEA with an awkward, introverted art evaluator. There is also a slight hint of magic in the story that centres around Odette. The cover is a perfect image of how I see Rainbow. Totally recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved Rainbow and Miles
4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
I loved Rainbow and Miles' story, I loved it the first time I read it and I loved it rereading it just over 12 months later.
I loved seeing Miles loosen up and find joy in the small things thanks to Rainbow “You make me see the world in such a different way. You make me see beauty in the smallest things. For that I’ll be eternally grateful. I needed that. I needed to see beyond me.”
And I loved how strong Rainbow was despite how his family had treated him like he was worth nothing because he was deaf, and his brother had bullied him and even worse allowed his friends to bully him, I think bully is actually too tame a word for the way they behaved.
Meeting Miles helped Rainbow find his strength to live in the world and not just be a hermit. I could feel their connection and loved seeing it bloom, yes it was super quick, but then love can be like that. "I may not be able to hear you, but there’s a language of love between us that needs no words."
Delphine seemed a bit of an oddball at first, but she soon grew on me and I adored her for the way she cared for Rainbow and how she brought Miles into her fold too. I think we all need a Delphine, someone who has our back unconditionally.
Mr Getty added that little something to the story too, another quirky but kind-hearted person.
The bad guys, well they aren't worth mentioning other than to say they got what they deserved.
A lovely, heartwarming read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story
This is at heart a romance but it's a tough read as it also shows how some people can mistreat a member of their own family so horrendously, and shows the pompous arrogance that money creates within them as they throw people away, and try to take everything. It's a marvelous ride as we are travel through a wealth of emotions here, I just loved this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rainbow
A first time read from this author with a disability close to my heart.
Overall a great story. Easy to read and kept me hooked. I'm a sucker for a happy ending even if the journey there is a little hard to believe. That's what it's all about when reading a book, you just need to fall in love with the characters falling in love.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it ❤️
I love a story that takes a broken man and makes him see himself in the beautiful way others see him. I love a story that shows the struggles of those unable to hear.
I love how Rainbow hears Miles when so many others couldn’t.
I love a story of found family, because blood is not always there for you.
