A Heart to Trust Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 361 ratings

What happens when you find out your stuck-up, blissfully straight colleague may be none of those things? A delicious enemies-to-lovers, lesbian workplace romance.

Change is not Jenny Quinn’s strong suit, but she’s happy enough with her easy-going life, friends, and job as a TV production assistant. That is until a company shake-up foists the infuriating Olivia Sinclair on her. The woman is uptight, snobby, and has some perfect and famous motor-racing husband.

TV and theater producer Olivia moved to New York from the UK to marry her longtime friend. It’s a sham marriage, a favor to a man she loves as a brother, but the strain is beginning to take its toll. How can she even meet women when she’s the picture of heterosexual bliss? Add in her stressful new job, an irritating colleague called Jenny, who thinks being goofy is some kind of admirable work ethic, and life can be a grind some days. The worst part isn’t the office politics or clashing personalities, but the fact there’s an attraction between both women that’s gradually becoming impossible to ignore.

So…should they stop ignoring it? That would mean learning to trust your heart that this is the right woman. And that’s a huge step.

A.L. Brooks was born in the UK but currently resides in Frankfurt, Germany, and over the years she has lived in places as far afield as Aberdeen and Australia. She works 9–5 in corporate financial systems and her dream is to take early retirement. Like, tomorrow, please. She loves her gym membership, and is very grateful for it as she also loves dark chocolate. She enjoys drinking good wine and craft beer, trying out new recipes to cook, and learning German. Travelling around the world and reading lots and lots (and lots) of books are also things that fight for time with her writing. Yep, she really needs that early retirement.

This writer has become one of my favorites, her characters are charismatic and engaging with just enough angst to keep you in gaged and wanting more. Of course, the story is heart warming and sweet with the added bonus of seeing another character from a previous book “Adrienne from “The Long Shot”... Even though her interactions in the story wasn’t much, just having a sneak peek into her life with Morgan was a treat.
If you’ve enjoyed other books by this author or trying her out for the first time.... I would definitely recommend any of her books! including this one.

    Spicy: 1/5

Super cute novel!! Fake marriage, ice queen, work drama, comedy, and more.

Oliva is from the UK and is in a fake marriage with her best guy friend. This phony marriage has also caused something in her to dwindle. Top it off, a work competition with three other people for only three permanent positions makes for stress, and it just keeps coming. All this built-up stress causes Oliva to appear as an ice queen from the outside.

Then there's Jenny, trying to keep it cool when she feels like her world is crashing. She doesn't do well with change; she's not only losing her boss to their dreams but Jenny is also forced to be one of the 4 to compete for a permanent position after the company she's spent the last seven years with, was sold.

Thanks A.L. Brooks for creating a love story about women whom I’d love to know and be proud to make friends with. The theme of overcoming rejection and finding your chosen family resonates in my heart. 💜

I’ve read a few books from this author and generally enjoyed them, but not this one. It was very draggy that I had to drag myself to finish it. The behaviors of the characters are inconsistent and far from convincing. There was no romance instead the mains behaved like horny teenagers. The secondary storylines seem highly unnecessary and boring. Most of the time I had no idea if they were standing or sitting or lying down so the scenes become disjointed as they were hard to follow. I’ve never read a book that made me roll my eyes so much whenever their feelings whilst looking at each other or whatever were described.

This tale is laden with the details that draw you in and keep you invested in the main characters and the sub plots until the end; creating a place where the reader can empathize and relive their own past. A great read!

I really enjoyed the premise, battling for position over jobs. The crazy manipulation and office politics...who hasn’t had some of that nastiness at some point in their career?

The romance was hot and steamy. Good job Ms Brooks.

It was a good read but a little slow for me on the relationship development between the two main characters. I find that Jenny is rather clueless and quick to judge in the earlier chapters but I guess the author is trying to build a story of trust here.

I liked the story a lot :) the relationship had a strong build up until it developed into something else even though the attraction was always present the characters put thought into their actions and it felt like their relationship grew organically.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit slow to start
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 4, 2021
This was a bit slow to get started, but then it had me hooked. The characters were interesting and I found myself either wanting to slap them or hug them. There were a few witty banter moments that had me laughing. I normally like ice queen stories, but this was ice queen with a twist that made it more intriguing. I also liked the fact that the drama of the climax was not too close to the end so there was plenty of time to resolve everything. The romance was also slow burn, which added to the tension. Definitely a fun read once it got going.
