A Kiss for a Kiss Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 7,932 ratings

I’m Jake Masterson, single dad, and the General Manager of Seattle’s NHL team. I walked away from a career as a player so I could raise my daughter. For the last twenty-plus years, Queenie has been my main priority, but now she’s getting married.

And there’s a small complication.

A beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

She’s my son-in-law’s older sister. Or at least that’s how they were raised. The truth is a little more scandalous than that.

I’ve been drawn to her from the moment I laid eyes on her. And I spent months trying to keep a lid on that attraction.

Until we finally give in.

It starts with one searing kiss, but quickly ends with us between the sheets—and in the shower, and the hot tub, you get the picture—and turns into months of sneaking around.

Here’s the problem: we live on opposite ends of the country. It can’t be anything but casual. And as I’ve already said…it’s complicated.

But when Hanna finds out she’s pregnant…suddenly things get real serious.

When I read a book written by Helena Hunting there is nothing more than wild & warm feelings inside me. Especially when reading the All in Series. There is nothing more than love and unshakable bonds of family and forever soulmates. Helena Hunting therefore offers us a very touching story with heroes that we want to see happy. A Kiss for a Kiss is beautifully crafted, emotionally charged and SO amazing. The emotions will indeed be at the rendezvous of this new volume. Friendship will be an important anchor, but also love, whether fraternal or sensual. A Kiss for a Kiss focuses on Hanna and Jake’s story but we got to hear more about Queenie and King and the gang. For those who had read the All in Series this is an extra because characters like these are unforgettable! However this book can be read as a standalone. So let’s focus on Hanna and Jake. For starters, Jake is Queenie's Dad and King's father-in-law, and Hanna is King's Momster. With that messy start you can’t help but wonder how their story would unfold as well as their tangled families. Insert here a surprise baby and you have a BOMB of a book! Complicated does not cover how this couple’s journey is. Helena Hunting painted an unexpected and beautiful picture for both characters. It was refreshing to read this and they are an older couple so don’t expect a ton of drama (just a bit). With all that in mind, I’m so pleased that Helena Hunting wrote this novel for this characters. The perspective of Hanna and Jake as an older couple made me expect the unexpected and she didn’t disappoint me! She handled their story beautifully; rich in emotions and we also have a light tint of comedy although the phycology is also present. The chemistry and passion is one to thoroughly enjoy and it’s a breath of fresh air. The ups and downs make their journey real and unique. Overall this is seriously an ADORABLE book! Compelling and charming. A Kiss for a Kiss is an epic, emotional, extraordinary masterpiece that touches everywhere. Meaningful. Oh so moving. It’s everything you’d want in a romance and more!

Let's get this out of the way. I loved this book. Yup. Two adults having an adult relationship and adult conversations and no angsty stuff was really great. There's no bad guy. This is a love story about two people figuring out their feelings and slowly working out how to make it work. And then falling in love. And Jake is awesome and lovable and yummy.

A Kiss for a Kiss picks up the story of Jake and Hanna as their kids are planning their wedding. It's complicated! (That's a recurring theme of the story.) They have been drawn to each other since the moment they first laid eyes on each other. Finally, one night, they can't control their attraction anymore and decide it won't hurt anyone if they give in to their libido. No feelings involved. Nope. It turns out that one night isn't enough and soon they are sneaking around and getting busy whenever they get the chance. What happens when two adults are insatiable for each other? Sure love happens sometimes but sometimes a baby happens! This book explores how two adults that live on opposite sides of the country can blend their lives and give their baby a happy family.

Hanna gets some AWESOME scenes where she gets to deal with all of the hurts and losses of the past 30 years. Her story arc is really powerful. In the end, she is what drives all of the decisions about how she and Jake will raise their baby. Jake thinks he is finally going to be able to make decisions without having to think about his daughter first. He's excited to be able to do what he wants to do whenever he wants to do it. Needless to say, a baby is going to change all of his plans! He is so awesome with Hanna (after the initial shock wears off, but who can blame him for being shocked). His ability to listen to her and allow her to come to her own decisions was amazing. I was rooting for them and I celebrated every step they made towards being together as a couple.

The side characters! I wanted to kick Kingston's butt so bad with how he reacted to Hanna's relationship and pregnancy. I get he was confused and hurting but Hanna really needed him. Speaking of the Kingston family, Hanna's mom was super annoying. Right from the get-go, I wanted to sit her down and have a few words with her. Then there's Queenie who was as positive and upbeat as you'd think she would be. And the girl gang was all there. They were super fun! And Hanna's best friend, Paxton is a really great addition. It's cool that she's been with Hanna for 30 years so she has a long view and isn't afraid to share her thoughts. And Jake's friends make an appearance. Honestly, the poker game was much-needed levity because some of the book is really emotional. Men as comic relief is always good!

What did I not like? Hmm, I did not make a single note about something I didn't like. I can't think of a single instance where anything pulled me out of the flow of the story. I know! It's a miracle!

I would recommend this to anyone that likes a good adult love story. If you are sensitive to high-risk pregnancy issues, this book might be upsetting in a few scenes. This book is a contemporary book set in Seattle and Tennessee. There are some hockey references. I think readers will benefit from reading the prior books in the series but it's not critical to understanding the plot.

Jake Masterson - GM of the Seattle expansion Hockey Team, has been a single dad to Queenie since she was born. Now Queenie is marrying Ryan Kingston (goalie) and Jake's been working with Jake's mom on wedding planning. Hanna got pregnant with Ryan at 15 and her parents adopted him and raised him as theirs, with Hanna acting as his sister until her ex-husband spilled the beans during their separation/divorce.

Hanna has been perimenopausal for a couple of years (I think both mcs are around 45) so when she finds out that she's pregnant, everyone is shocked. But Hanna always wanted a baby of her own but it hadn't worked out for her. Now she's got a high risk "geriatric" pregnancy with a man she lives across the country from - and their adult kids just got married.

There is a lot I like about this story, but aside from the love story, I really liked Hanna and Ryan finally getting a chance to get their feelings out about how their lives played out (or changed) due to how Hanna's parents handled the teen pregnancy. My heart broke for Hanna at the wedding and I was hoping for a scene with a do-over later in the story - you'll understand if you read this one.

This was such a great story to wrap up the All In series. It was more emotional and angsty than the other three books in the series, but the HEA was totally worth it. The family and friends surrounding Hanna and Jake bring a richness that is pure joy.

So I read this book in a day because it’s really not that long. I’ve loved all of the Pucked Series and this series but this one felt very different.

It starts with Jake and Hanna immediately going to bed together. There was no work up or anything. Just boom...bed! Then it keeps going for a few months. They keep having the conversation about being in separate states. Eventually they resolve that issue and move on.

Then Hanna becomes pregnant and it’s the same conversation over and over and over about her age, and possible abnormalities and tests. Literally the same topic during a conversation with Hannah and Jake, then Hanna and King, then Jake and Queenie and then Hanna and Pax. I got so sick of reading the same thing. And this was up until 57% of the book!

I never felt the main characters actually fall in love. They got together because of the baby and taking care of the baby. Where was the angst? Where was the falling for each other? It felt too rushed, not enough about how they really loved each other. It was literally said 1 time. This book just felt thrown together and to appease people but completely unnecessary.

Everything Hanna wanted to fight about for herself she just gave into (moving to Seattle, keeping her job, moving in with Jake). I quickly read it just to complete it but it’s very different from any others in the series. Maybe due to the ages of the characters but still...They aren’t a couple I would see staying together if they were 20 years younger.

The story of Jake and Hanna, is one i was most looking forward to reading. The chemistry we discover in Queenie and Ryans book leads you to wonder if they would or wouldn't. So, its amazing to see that they do. It's not at all easy. Rather than be selfish and do something for them selves, they think too much of others and almost lose each other. But, life had other plans and no matter what happens. They will always be connected. The relationship between Hanna and Ryan was particularly heartbreaking, but the character development was incredibly well done.

I loved this book, it took me on an emotional roller coaster and boy did I love the ride.
It’s written in such a way that you just fall into the storyline, the detail and emotion was amazing- I was in tears in one part, it was just so sweet.
I enjoyed that the characters were older and it touched on a lot of real issues older women can face.
It’s such a beautiful story with the perfect ending- just loved it!

Eu amei tudo neste belo livro.
    Amei e recomendo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hanna & Jake Were Wonderful!
Reviewed in Canada on June 3, 2021
As soon as I met Jake and Hanna in A Secret for a Secret, King and Queenie's story, I was hoping and hoping that we would get to read their story someday...and that day has come, and it was sooooo worth the wait!I absolutely adored A Kiss for a Kiss, and Jake and Hanna's chemistry and their story was even more wonderful than I hoped it would be!

First, I loved that we got to see so much of King, Queenie, and the All In characters! I'm a huge fan of Helena Hunting's books in general, but I do have a serious soft spot for her Pucked series and All In series, so I definitely loved that Hanna and Jake fit right in with them! I also just loved Hanna and Jake on their own--they're both such strong characters, so I really respected them, but I also loved seeing them both open up and it was so lovely to see them grow together! As the blurb reveals, there's a later-in-life pregnancy in this one...all of the baby related stuff was very real, which I don't have experience with, but I very much appreciated! I felt so much joy as Hanna and Jake hit milestones and I was so invested in seeing where their life was headed...and I was just so, so happy with how this one wrapped up! It was lovely! I'm hoping we'll still get to see some snippets of these characters as Helena expands on the stories of the Pucked/All In kids...but who knows! haha

Overall, I thought that A Kiss for a Kiss was amazing! It was funny, steamy, and the story and romance were absolutely wonderful! Jake and Hanna had amazing chemistry, their story pulled on all of my heartstrings, and it left me with a huge smile on my face! While Jake and Hanna are a little older than some of Helena Hunting's other main characters, and the issues they faced were a little different than my own personal experiences, I don't think that kept me from connecting with them or loving them at all. I felt for Hanna and Jake so strongly, and I was rooting for them, their relationship, their kids...their love...just EVERYTHING, the entire time! I think that A Kiss for a Kiss is perfect for any contemporary romance fan!
