A Little Christmas Spirit: A Holiday Romance Novel Paperback – September 28, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
The best Christmas gifts—family, friendship and second chances—are all waiting to be unwrapped in this sparkling new novel from USA TODAY bestselling author Sheila Roberts.
Single mom Lexie Bell hopes to make this first Christmas in their new home special for her six-year-old son, Brock. Festive lights and homemade fudge, check. Friendly neighbors? Uh, no. The reclusive widower next door is more grinchy than nice. But maybe he just needs a reminder of what matters most. At least sharing some holiday cheer with him will distract her from her own lack of romance…
Stanley Mann lost his Christmas spirit when he lost his wife and he sees no point in looking for it. Until she shows up in his dreams and informs him it’s time to ditch his scroogey attitude. Stanley digs in his heels, but she’s determined to haunt him until he wakes up and rediscovers the joys of the season. He can start by being a little more neighborly to the single mom next door. In spite of his protests, he’s soon making snowmen and decorating Christmas trees. How will it all end?
Merrily, of course. A certain Christmas ghost is going to make sure of that!

Review
“If, like me, your idea of a good time on a cold December night is to curl up with a cozy blanket, a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and a feel-good, Hallmark holiday movie, then you are going to love this book. I recommend adding it to your holiday reading list.” —Romance Dish
“A tender story guaranteed to warm your heart this holiday season. When I read anything from Sheila Roberts, I know I will laugh, cry and close the book with a happy sigh.” —RaeAnne Thayne
“Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a Sheila Roberts story. This can't-miss author has a singular talent for touching the heart and the funnybone. She deals with the things that matter to us all—loss and love, faith and family, redemption and renewal—and ties them up with a holiday bow. Once again, Sheila Roberts gifts us with a heartwarming confection that's as sweet as a sugarplum, and as deeply moving as snowfall.” —Susan Wiggs

Stanley Mann is given this special honor from his deceased wife. Even though he has been playing scrooge for years since she passed, she refuses to let him stop living. I loved how Sheila Roberts weaved in glimpses of the past to see the wonderful love story between him and Carol. Carols "hints" brought humor to a story that would otherwise be sad. It was a very nice touch.
The new neighbors next door Lexie Bell and her six year old son Brock are starting over. Brock was a wonderful kid to bring them together. I really liked how Brock just adopted Stanley as his grandfather since his own passed away. The way Brock never really gave him a choice and how Stanley eventually embraced the idea was genius. Capturing the innocence of a child made the story that more endearing for the reader.
A Little Christmas Spirit has it all ,faith, hope ,grief, love and second chances. The writing keeps you engaged and I fell in love with Stanley by the end. If your looking for a refreshing take for a Christmas story this one is for you. Sheila Roberts tugs at the heartstrings and brings the holiday's to life in this special story. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for A Little Christmas Spirit!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAnother book by Sheila that I love. My mom and I, for years, had a tradition where I would pick out a Christmas book, read it, then send it to her to read. We would then discuss it and usually share how much we loved it. The last 5 or 6 years our Christmas books have been Sheila Roberts books and we loved them all. I preordered a little Christ Spirit in July, so excited that Sheila had come out with other Christmas book to keep our tradition going. Well, the universe had other plans and I lost my mom in August. I didn’t know if I even wanted to read the book knowing I couldn’t send it my mom, but a small little voice (spirit) kept telling me Read It!! I am so glad I did. The book was awesome, and it helped me remember that even though my mom is gone she would want me to keep our traditions going. Thank you, Sheila!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am a fan of Ms Roberts’ writing. I am also a big fan of Christmas stories.
For some reason, this story did not make me joyous.
Stanley is a widower who is hiding from life since the death of his wife. When a young mother and her son move in next door, Stanley is drawn into life whether he likes it or not.
My favorite character in the story is Brock, the little first grader. Stanley is entertaining. But, basically, I could not get into this story. I was hoping for more direct emotional involvement with the characters.
I know this is just me, but for me, this did not make me smell the gingerbread.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2023Format: Mass Market PaperbackVerified PurchaseHeart warming story about life bumps in the road. A Man loses wife, finds new friends and a pup, a woman moves to a new town starts a new career and new life, finds friends and a new love. Happy ending. It takes about 50 pages to get into this book but really takes off from there. Characters are believable and funny. Wish there could have been more of a relationship for Stanley with Lexie's Mom, she comes into play late in the story and we really do not know her true character as we do the others. All and all good read.
