Lady Ophelia Darby exists in two worlds. In one, she is the impudent, willful daughter of a powerful marquess and darling of the ton. In the other, she moves through the underworld’s shadows as songstress Lady Starlight, protected only by the notoriously wealthy scoundrel Devlin Byrne. But when she stumbles upon her beloved father’s darkest secrets, the line between her two worlds quickly blurs. Now she needs the help of the one man a lady should never trust.

Devlin Byrne stands on the edge of London society, knowing he will never be accepted. No one else knows that his obscene wealth and ruthlessness aren’t without purpose. Or that his purpose has golden-brown eyes that shimmer with mischief, the palest of skin, and a lush mouth that beckons to be kissed, and deeply. But having Ophelia is only the beginning of Devlin’s plans.

It’s undeniable that Devlin Byrne is a dangerous temptation―but just as Ophelia begins to trust him, maybe even fall for him, she discovers she’s not the only one with secrets. And his would lead her down more than just the path of scandal…

A moving read
5 out of 5 stars
A moving read
Will she let others’ prejudices come between them… What a beautiful read the author gifts us for this end of year. A moving heartbreaking of a childhood love who turned into a lifeline for a little boy. Ophelia is the obedient, scandal-less daughter of a marquess when inside she boils with spirit, fire, determination and now a life changing secret. One she must, no, needs to unravel, else she would never feel whole complete again. So she roams the seediest parts of the city, soon under the protection of a man of the shadow, one she does not know but feels in her guts would never hurt her when she should fear to have come into his sight. I did not love Niall, I fell in love with him. He is a young boy who reshaped and built his own life on a mere days life changing’s event. And while he altered his future to be worthy of his Fifi, his gorgeous inner self never morphed, he would forever be this little boy who has met a fairy and protected her from the outside world. He was already and will always be a defender and protector of the most vulnerable. Whatever he went through it was with one goal in sight, to be deceiving of his lady’s love. I loved them together, how even when they lie to themselves, they are honest with one another. Their journey toward one another is not a smooth one, impeded and thwarted by others’ view of their differences and their prejudices against those they consider below them. As Fifi forays in Devlin’s world, she realizes their disparities and when time will come to make a choice, it will be with a price. A five stars read. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen detailed lovemaking scenes.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I was so frustrated with everyone.

What the heroine’s father and mother did should have been unforgivable. What they did to the heroine’s biological mother and what they were trying to do to Fifi at the end showed they were shallow, self-centered people who had no growth in character. The fact that Fifi did not cut them from her life or make them redeem themselves disappointed me.

Poor Niall ended up being something of a doormat. The heroine ultimately puts him first, but it was touch-and-go until the end. And at one point, I truly didn’t know if she deserved him. You will know it when you read it.

And the cousin? I wanted her to suffer, too. If Karma exists, she will end up in love with a “commoner” who wants nothing to do with her.

But on the whole, a young boy’s single-minded devotion to the girl that stole his heart long ago is extremely compelling. The hero carries the book.

I'm in love with Devlin. A man who is a true romance hero, devoted, determined, willing to stand by Ophelia no matter what, as differences in class, her parents & high society's distain towards Devlin threatens to keep them apart.

The opening scenes with Ophelia & Devlin as small children when Devlin saves her, & the flash backs in their memories as adults, are deeply touching, heart-rending, & beautiful.

Ophelia, has grown up to be a young woman full of mischief, headstrong, spoiled, yet with a kind heart, loved by her parents. Then a devastating secret is revealed to her.

After searching for Ophelia for years & finally giving up, Devlin, by a twist of fate, sees a mysterious woman, in the mist & is shocked to see it is her.

The plot & Ophelia & Devlin fairly sizzles & combust. Devlin has never forgotten her, but it appears Ophelia has suppressed her memories of the little boy. But when she remembers, in bits & pieces, it is a beautiful thing. Especially when she distantly & dreamily remembers the little boy crying out to her as the door shuts, "wait for me".

I am of two minds of this book. The romance was good, but it didn't wow me, my criteria for a five-star rating. Two people from wildly different classes meet as children and form a bond. When they meet again 15 years later, they become lovers. Devlin will do anything for Lady Ophelia but she spends most of the book unable to shed her prejudice at their class difference.

The hero, Devlin, is a self-made man who has climbed his way out of the gutter because of a dream. And the dream is Lady Ophelia Darby. Devlin is now wealthy and powerful but he is keenly aware society will never accept him. Inside he's still the 12 yr old son of simple people who risked his life to save an 8 yr old girl.

Lady Ophelia spends much of the time torn between her growing affection for Devlin, but letting her prejudice against their class distinction makes her think of him as nothing else but a temporary lover.

The premise bothered me a little. An unmarried young woman of the upper class taking a lover in Regency England is definitely not the norm.

There are some mildly steamy love scenes on the way to the HEA. Stacy Reid normally wows me, so I will keep reading.

“Sometimes it was not the outcome that made the man, but the journey.”

I feel rather redundant in my reviews for this series. But with each book the story gets better, deeper and truly reading experience.

You are going to read the prologue and then stop. Because their first meeting left me with such profound feelings.

“You remember,” he said gruffly. “Every moment.”

As the story progressed, I fell deeper in love with these fictional character. There was something about his vulnerability and longing. His understanding of what would come to be. Ophelia has her own demons to slay. As a reader you feel she wants to love Devlin openly but holds back because her place in society. Until she puts her past and future to rights does she know she can only make one true choice.

“You are a lady of quality. I am coarse and unfit for you. I know it, but I cannot stay away from you.”

It is the best of historical romance with nods to the tropes within Romeo & Juliet and Pride & Prejudice. It is another brilliant novel of storytelling with immersive experience for the reader.

Recommendation: Buy it, Read it - experience it.

When Ophelia was eight, she was saved from drowning by Niall Byrne. Only twelve years old and not of her class, he promises to always take care of her and to wait for him to grow up. Clawing and fighting his way up to wealth and power, he's made a name for himself in London. It's been fifteen years and six months and he's ready to approach Ophelia. Not of quality and not accepted by society, he is determined to have what he wants. Ophelia can't believe that the notorious Devlin Byrne is really Niall. A powerful attraction leads to a passionate affair. She has a secret. He offers his help. As their affair becomes more than "not yet,* Ophelia must decide if she is willing to give up life in society for love. Nothing like waiting on pins and needles for a happy ending.

I love Wallflowers. I love scoundrels. I love everything about the Sinful Wallflowers series. It's beautiful, it's romantic, sexy and steamy. It's everything I hoped and wished for and I knew that Stacy wouldn't disappoint. She's one of my favourite authors. Her stories are exactly what I want from a HR novel. I love my stories steamy but also romantic and witty. And this is just another amazing example of Stacy's talent. I didn't want this book to end and I don't want the series to end. I hope we will get the story of the other 3 remaining wallflowers Emma, Charlotte and Fanny as well as Riordan. Please Stacy!

    🌶️🌶️🌶️/5.

I wasn’t sure how this story was gonna go. First half of the book I wasn’t sure of but then the second half won me over. Friends or childhood friends to lovers are usually not my cup of tea but this premise really worked for me.
Devlin didn’t pull punches, he came in hot and ready to take Fifi in his arms and never let go.
I loved Devlin and Ophelia so much. Their love was felt and I loved every second they were wicked with each other.

I’m actually surprised there was no pregnancy and that they married because of it and I loved how Stacy did it. Ophelia fought for her love and she ultimately chose his Niall despite her family’s protests and I loved they chose each other and married just because they loved each other.
