About the author

Victoria Cooke grew up in the city of Manchester before crossing the Pennines in pursuit of a career in education. She now lives in Huddersfield with her husband and two young daughters and when she’s not at home writing by the fire with a cup of coffee in hand, she loves working out in the gym and travelling. Victoria was first published at the tender age of eight by her classroom teacher who saw potential in a six-page story about an invisible man. Since then she’s always had a passion for reading and writing, undertaking several writers’ courses before completing her first novel, 'The Secret to Falling in Love,' in 2016.
Her third novel, Who Needs Men Anyway? became a digital bestseller in 2018.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2020Loved Ethan and Sam, both of whom were stuck due to the loss of their spouses. It was lovely reading about their growing relationship. Sam had the greatest distance to go. I loved Harry and Barney, too, who were so welcoming to San when she was in a foreign country.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2020Was good, but you knew what the ending would be like. Enjoyed the read..

- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2020Enjoyed story, A light read with romance and lightheartedness.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019This novel, A Summer to Remember, was my first introduction to Victoria Cooke’s work, but it was just the warm-hearted beach read I always enjoy picking up in between heavier pieces of literature. Even better, it has many scenes set in a cute coastal town with lovely, welcoming people of the type we all secretly wish would take us under their wings, pour cocktails down our throats, and become our new best friends when we most need a new perspective.
For main character Sam, a new perspective is precisely what she gets when she temporarily relocates from London to Boston for work. It’s an assignment she’s been wanting for the better part of a decade, ever since losing her husband in a tragic accident, but she gets off to a rocky start, and escapes to Provincetown on the weekend to soothe her soul at the beach.
It’s there where Sam meets and befriends an array of delightful characters – Harry and Barney chief among them – who become her American support system, giving her advice and shaking her out of her self-imposed bubble. It’s also there that she gets to know Ethan, our male lead.
In the last two years, my own family has seen a lot of death and loss – both of my in-laws and my own stepfather, as well as a member of my chosen family – and dealing with that grief, and watching my mother continue to deal with the loss of her life-partner – has been challenging, but it’s also made me a harsh critic of stories covering similar territory. Cooke handles both Sam’s and Ethan’s grief and healing with sensitivity and truthfulness that I found to be profoundly real and incredibly believable.
Yes, these are characters in a summer romance novel, and so their reality is a slightly heightened one, but I still found everything I read to be completely plausible (with the possible exception of anyone getting seasick on a kayak.)
A Summer to Remember was exactly the book I needed to finish out the last days of summer. Okay, I live in Texas, so our hot weather will continue until Halloween, but the light is changing, and there’s a bite beneath the heat that means autumn is arriving, but, just as the end of summer in this novel doesn’t mean an end to new friendships or new relationships, merely a redrawing of parameters, so, too, does the end of summer where I live merely mean that the sun sets a bit earlier and the swimming pool isn’t quite as warm.
A Summer to Remember is a novel to be enjoyed.
Goes well with burgers grilled over an open flame and cold beer, ideally consumed while sitting in the sand.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2019Although the book starts out quite sad with Sam having lost her husband, we quickly move on to how she’s doing like 8 years after his death. She’s moved to London from her sleepy hometown, found new friends, gotten a cat and is in her dream job.
The only problem is her world is starting to change and she’s finally got the opportunity to go to America for the summer as part of a work exchange program. While she’s there she discovers new friends and finds a new joy in life that leaves her worrying about other factors. While this sounds all well and good, she needs to go home and that makes it emotionally gripping.
I found myself constantly asking “what if?” to everything. All her decisions, all the talks, all the backtracking. Everything.
Although the ending didn’t have a certain fact I was certain would be there, it was amazing as well. I found myself impressed that Victoria held back from adding that one little thing in the happily ever after, unlike so many authors. By doing that it made it feel much more inclusive and real to me.
That real element of her storytelling is something that was woven throughout, but that I hadn’t realised until I got right to the end. I love it and I hope she continues to bring it into her writing.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019To be honest this was a little slow for me in the beginning. But once she got to Boston it really picked up and I really started loving it. I have been to Boston several times and loved it. I have never been to Provincetown or Cape Cod in general but it is one of the places that I have always wanted to go to. The author did a great job of making me feel like I was visiting! Great descriptions, the beach, the bike rides, the city - Loved it all!
Great characters and character development. I liked Sam immediately. Didn't like Ethan at first but did grow to like him and he became more human and you learned his back story. Loved Harry and Barney, they couldn't have been more perfect.
Unfortunately one thing that I didn't care for were the flash backs. They were OK, but I just wasn't into them as much. But I still enjoyed the rest of the story very much. There were lots of warm fuzzies, but not too mushy - just right :-)
I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Rachel's Random Resources - Thank You!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible journey
I absolutely loved this! Just a wonderful funny, emotional, romantic read, and one I found it hard to tear myself away from. Sam was a realistically damaged heroine – her journey as she learns to let herself love again following the loss of her adored husband Kev was both compelling and emotionally satisfying. And hunky American Ethan was a brilliant hero – sweet, sexy and just the right amount of flawed (his childhood dolphin obsession cracked me up!). I loved watching how these two broken people came together to find their happily-ever-after.
There's more to this than a wonderful love story though. Sam's journey at work, as she teaches the patronising men in her office a lesson or two about never underestimating a determined woman, had me mentally punching the air. I also loved the strong friendships she builds during her time in Cape Cod – I adored Barney and Harry, with their amazing selection of cocktails!
I was a bit worried Provincetown was a made-up place – very happy to discover it's real and somewhere I can actually go! Immediately added to my list of "when I win the lottery" holiday destinations. I've been trawling photos online and it looks every bit as amazing as Ms Cooke describes it in the story. I definitely fell in love with it alongside Sam.
A great read, and an easy five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars – Revisit the old to embrace the new!
*sighs*
Memories can be funny things, can’t they? You can recapture a cherished moment in time. Evoking all the thoughts and feelings that come with that specific memory.
But memories also hold the power to work against you. Even though we don’t mean for them to, they can hold us back. Where nothing and no one can live up to people or times past.
This is the limbo that Sam Butterfield finds herself in.
Losing her husband irrevocably changed Sam’s life. As it would have *shrugs*, but in trying to cope with her grief and forge a new way of life she has placed an ‘Out of Order’ sign on her heart.
Ugh! This hurt so much to read. No matter how Sam tried to pretty it up, her decisions made at that time echoed hurt and sadness through the page.
We may have to push her kicking and screaming, but... bring on the light! *rolls up sleeves*
It’s funny how a change of scenery and pace of life can help lead to a large dose of introspection. Especially when you transport a quintessential English rose to the US of A! I know I wouldn’t pass up a summer working in Boston *snorts*.
Can’t you just feel that sun?! Ahhhh... come to mama *makes grabby hands*.
Now, I have to be honest and say Sam annoyed me a couple of times during this story. I loved the friendships she made but found myself facepalming when her default setting was to lash out rather than admit how she truly felt.
Especially when it was aimed at my two special guys. What special guys you ask? Well, read it and find out *smirks*.
Don’t worry, I didn’t hold it against Sam for long, lol. Let’s be real here, the first flutterings of romance after all this time are bound to be a scary time for her.
Moving on does not mean having to let go...
*sighs* (again!)
Victoria Cooke has become a firm fav of mine since I ‘discovered’ her books last year. As a reader she makes me feel. Whether you’re laughing, crying, getting a tad annoyed or feeling mushy and gushy – her stories just get to you. And ASTR is the perfect example of this.
I wonder where she’ll take me next on her travels!

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving tale of love and loss, and learning to live again!
I don't know where to start with the magic that is this book! Victoria Cooke's writing is moving, uplifting and utterly captivating. The second I started reading I didn't want to put it down. She captures the true heartache of losing a loved one and takes you on a journey of learning to love and live again. It is believable, funny, passionate and fabulously written. The way Cooke describes the backdrop of Boston, Cape Cod, Provincetown has me desperate to visit it myself. Her secondary characters are entertaining and just as lovable as Sam herself. A perfect summer read!
This is now up there with my all-time favourites and if you're hovering over that Buy It button, just click it, you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Summer Read
In Victoria Cooke’s latest novel, A Summer to Remember we meet Sam a young widow whose bottling up her emotions and finding it hard to move on after the death of her beloved husband Kev eight years ago. Pouring herself into her work Sam is hoping that this is the year she’s proved herself enough to earn the three-month work placement in the companies Boston office.
Things seem to be looking up for Sam as she earns the placement and heads off on her dream trip leaving behind her cat Coco with best friend Bridget. Sam’s perfect summer in Boston gets off to a shaky start when she meets frosty stranger “Ethan” and then her all male work colleagues don’t seem to take her ideas seriously. But a weekend trip to the beautiful coastal town of Provincetown and a chance meeting with lovely couple Barney and Harry and Sam’s summer takes on a whole new meaning.
This a gorgeous, uplifting novel which had me hooked from the start as I was eager to see what challenges Sam faced in Boston and if her time there would help her reconnect with her loved ones. It may have a little sadness thrown in as Sam was still mourning for Kev but gradually, I feel she blossomed in Boston and became the carefree fun-loving girl she was before his death, which made her more confident at work and in the romance department.
I loved the great mix of characters in this book. Sam herself was a lovely girl who I was hoping would find someone else to make her smile. Even Ethan turned out to be not so bad if you caught him on a good day. My favourites through were Barney and Harry, they were so warm and friendly, and I loved reading about all the gatherings they had with family and friends which really added to the cosy happy I feeling I got while reading this novel.
I loved the setting of Provincetown, its sound like the perfect place to unwind and have an idyllic summer and I hope Victoria Cooke is considering writing another book here as I’m longing for another “visit”.
This is a perfect summer read with enough drama going on to make it more than just a romance novel. If you’re a fan of Jenny Hale’s writing, then I’m sure you will adore this as much as I did.
