A Year And A Day Kindle Edition
Stella doesn't believe a word the gypsy said, especially the part about proving it's true.
A YEAR AND A DAY: A romantic novel.Despite Stella's misgivings, her best friend Daphne persuades her to visit a fortune teller. Rosie-Lee promises both girls will live long and happy lives. For orphaned Stella, the fortune teller's claims include the family she longs for and a tall, dark handsome man. Stella doesn't believe a word, so Rosie-Lee produces a letter, to be read in a year's time, which will prove her predictions are true.
Stella remains sceptical but Daphne is totally convinced. Daphne attempts to manipulate Stella's life, starting with an introduction to her new boss. Restaurant owner Luigi fits the romantic hero image perfectly. In complete contrast is Daphne's infuriating policeman brother John. Despite his childhood romance with Stella ending badly he still acts as though he has a right to be involved in her life.
Soon John is the least of her worries. Daphne's keeping a secret, Luigi can't be trusted, romantically or professionally and both girls' jobs are at risk. Worse still, John's concerns for their safety are proved to be justified. John, and Rosie-Lee's letter, are all Stella has to help put things right.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2022A Year and a Day by Patsy Collins is a contemporary romance novel that follows a year in the life of Stella, a young florist. When a fortune teller called Rosie-Lee promises Stella and her friend Daphne a long and happy life, Stella is sceptical. But over the next few months, a tall, dark, and handsome man enters into her life, and Daphne gets her dream job. Everything seems to be going according to plan.
But is the charming Luigi really a perfect match for Stella? And why can’t she get along with Daphne’s infuriating yet intriguing brother, John?
The novel is fun and entertaining, and it keeps the reader’s attention throughout. I especially enjoyed the various elements of the plot, which go beyond those of a simple romance story. We also get to witness Stella’s progress in her job and the threat posed to the neighbourhood by a dangerous criminal. These additional elements make the story more gripping. Definitely a recommended book for anyone who would like an easy yet satisfying holiday read this summer.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2013Patsy has published three novels in the past year and I gave her previous books 5 stars each, so I was looking forward to see if she could maintain the quality a third time. I'm pleased to report that Patsy has stuck with the things she does well - an open, readable style of writing, characters that somehow seem to take you into their confidence, and the ability to maintain the reader's interest in the day-to-day activities that convincingly reveal the unfolding plot.
The previous review on this site captures pretty much everything you need to know so I needn't repeat its substance. I can but add that although I'm not part of the presumed target audience for this genre of writing, in terms of my age, gender or nationality, I enjoyed reading this novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2013The title of this book at first to me sounded like one I would find to dramatic and no fun to read, but if there is one thing that I have learned is never, ever make the mistake of judging a book by it's cover or it's title for that matter.
I was pleasantly surprised, delighted and intrigued. The book was one that had it all really. There was the shady character of Luigi that is on a mission to destroy as many lives as possible. The best friend Daphne with all the secrets, and the hero we all love John. All these characters were the ones that created the story that focused on Stella.
Now Stella is a orphan and in no mood to listen to fortune tellers telling her she will have a long and happy life, as nice as that is to hear she still remains sceptical. And here comes the delicious, fun and creative twist ladies! The fortune teller gives her a letter, but the letter is only to be opened a year from the day and it will reveal that all the predictions are indeed true.
Intriguing right? You bet it was. I loved reading all the various secrets in this book. The mystery level was simply stunning and it really had me glued to my seat all night long. The book really was very well written. The entire book just weaved into one excellent read! I am not going to say much more as it would no doubt give it all away.
So I will say only this, get a copy of this book today still. Believe me you will be up all night trying to solve this one and will find yourself thinking the whole time I have this one solved but as I was you will be so very surprised as the ending is revealed and it is so much better than any reader can imagine.
Excellent work !

"Your fortune will reveal the truth hidden deep inside"
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2013Although orphaned as a child, Stella doesn't have it too bad really. She has a nice flat. She has a job which she enjoys and which pays the bills. She has a best friend, Daphne, who's more like a sister and who's family has practically made her an honorary member. But like everyone else, she dreams of finding a special someone, a man who'll sweep her off her feet and make her part of a loving family - just as she's always dreamed. Rosie Lee the fortune teller has prophesied that her questions about her future will be settled in a year and a day. Isn't it exciting? Stella's not sure she believes it, but she's having a grand time finding out about her future, So who shall it be? Luigi the romantic Italian restaurateur, full of grand, romantic gestures? Or Gary, the drop dead gorgeous policemen who want Stella's expertise in flowers and chocolate for the pub quiz team? Or John, the best friend's elder brother who has always looked out for Stella and keeps a watchful eye on her? (Nah! Forget him! He's a pain).
So stick around for A YEAR AND A DAY to find out the answer. You'll have fun, I promise. And if you're lucky, you may even get to find out if John's granny gets to buy the hat with the feathers in it.
A YEAR AND A DAY is a gentle, charming, romantic story of English life from the talented author Patsy Collins. Grab a copy and enjoy! It'll make you smile.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2013What a wonderful read this book was. I thoroughly enjoyed the ups and downs of two friends flirtations with life changes and was taken in by the twist at the end. Patsy has created two wonderful characters in Stella and Daphne and it would be a fab read for those who like a little light reading for the holiday season. I'm now off to grab a copy of Escape to the Country which also comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars You make your own luck - don't you?
Stella and Daphne have been friends for years. Stella didn't have family of her own and Daphne, her parents and brother, John, embraced her in to their own. John is a bit irritating but he and Stella had a bit of romantic history - and then, it all went very pear-shaped.
Add to the mix a fortune-teller and a big cat called Thirteen and you have a fair bit of romance (mainly in the guise of Luigi) and a mystery that needs resolving.
I liked the way John made Thirteen part of the extended family - he brought a lot of humour to this novel, in spite of him being so annoying!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Year and a Day
A slight novel, that missed a promising plot twist to concentrate on the romance, and the main character becomes rather tedious in her pursuit of happiness.

4.0 out of 5 stars A really enjoyable romance!
Despite the 'hero's' irritating attitude & behaviour, the reader is pretty sure who Stella will end up with, but there are so many twists & turns along the way that interest never flags. This book is also a great tribute to the friendship between two girls, who feel like sisters, but share a relationship much closer, and more tolerant, than most real sisters do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fate or fortune...
A year and a day skipped along rapidly in this tale of destiny littered with promises and secrets. Patsy's books are easy to read because she writes about real people. My prediction for Patsy... I believe in you, nothing you do will surprise me, because your stories always do. Keep on writing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Year and a Day
It is lovely to be able to read a relaxing, non threatening book which is well written. When I pick up a 'Patsy Collins' I know that I am in for a most pleasant few days.
