It’s a universe.
5 out of 5 stars
It’s a universe.
After Full Tilt that I shameless hoarded for over six years before recently reading, I was left utterly bereft and broken from that devastatingly beautiful book. I had to immediately immerse myself in its sequel … the balm to my wounded heart. I had to go All In. Oh am I still reeling … drowning in this duet where no words will ever be enough to convey how special it is … how much I’m still feeling … how much I’ll forever feel. All In … a fitting name for a romance where I did just that: dove all in, my heart and soul bare, soaking up every beautifully broken word of this book, letting myself feel everything … going all in. Told through a broken, brave, and beautiful heroine and hero thrust together by tragedy, All In delves into the value of life and love, along with the complex dynamics of family, and the fragility of it all. This story shows that love can heal the deepest of wounds. Theo and Kacey were drowning, a collision of broken pieces, but whole together. Oh was I wounded … wrecked where I wept for Kacey and Theo and their pain. I felt their loss and love … and their strength surge through the pages. I was rendered awestruck by the hero and heroine who owned my heart the whole time reading. This romance makes you want to grab onto every opportunity, take risks, open your heart to love, and live life to the fullest. I couldn’t help but feel every word of this moving and meaningful masterpiece full of heartbreak and healing. It’s the brightest star on the darkest night dancing with spirit and soul; it’s a universe. One of the epic greats, All In is one of those rare books that stay in your heart long after the final page. Simply unforgettable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but worth a universe of stars

These books take me on the journey with them. The feeling of grief is hard to convey in text but she does it so beautifully while crafting another story around it. Absolutely wonderful
  • Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2021
I dove into this book with tears in my eyes, still reeling from Jonah's death at the end of Full Tilt (Book 1). Just before Jonah dies, he extracts promises from the two people he loves the most. Even as her heart breaks, his girlfriend (Kacey) promises to love again. "Love him with everything," Jonah tells her. "Like you loved me. Love him more." He asks his brother to "Take care of Kacey. Please . . . love her, Theo." Jonah knows that Theo is already in love with Kacey, but Theo has kept that secret buried ". . . deep down where it could never see the light of day and betray my brother."

All In (Book 2) revolves around those two promises. Can Kasey find a way to heal her broken heart and love again? Will Theo overcome his guilt and find a lasting love with Kasey? It's a slow and difficult process as Kasey and Theo struggle with the pain of losing Jonah and the guilt they feel over their growing love for each other. Jonah gave them his blessing with his dying breath, but they can't let go of their guilt for "betraying" him. There's lots of push-pull in this slow-burn, friends to lovers romance.

(WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!) Trying to escape from her grief, Kasey leaves Las Vegas and flees to New Orleans, where she sings in clubs and drowns her sorrow in alcohol, staying drunk every day for six months. "Jonah would hardly recognize you," she thinks, but she keeps drinking until Theo rescues her. He flies to New Orleans and helps her get through three days of "cold turkey" withdrawal from alcohol, an agonizing process.

Sober once more, Kacey stays in New Orleans and works on an album of her songs, while Theo completes his MBA at UNLV and thinks about opening his own tattoo shop (despite his father's opposition). Kasey and Theo grow closer over frequent phone calls, and they get together again when Theo flies to New Orleans for the "release party" for Kacey's new album. But every time Theo comes close to admitting his true feelings for Kasey, he pulls back out of guilt. Even after they share a sensual dance in New Orleans (and I do mean sensual!), nothing happens. There's too much guilt. Too much pain.

I felt their pain, because I loved Jonah, too. But I also grew to love Theo, who conceals his caring heart behind a tough exterior. As Kacey tells him, "You put on armor and put up walls. But inside, you have a gentle, loving soul. A goodness running down the core of you, all along that steel strength." The push-pull between them continues until--at 70% in--lust triumphs over guilt and they become lovers at last. (If you enjoy steamy sex scenes, you're in luck! Theirs are super hot!)

Finally, at 80% in, Theo declares his love in an emotional scene at the site of Jonah's dismantled glass installation. "I love you," he says. "I'm in love with you and I will be for the rest of my life." And deep in Kasey's heart, ". . . the answering echo, rising to the surface after being denied so long. Pushed down and ignored out of my own guilt. Dismissed out of worry what others would think. Buried because of my own fear of putting my heart in another's hands, stepping back up to the table and going all in one more time, risking everything."

Love is worth the risk, after all. "Because love always wins. Always." I cried, of course. Emma Scott's beautiful words never fail to grab my emotions. But--unlike Jonah's tragic story--I mostly smiled through my tears this time. I couldn't help but go "all in" for the Full Tilt Duet! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Whew 😅what a ride this was! What a conclusion to Kacey, Teddy and Jonah’s story! WHAT A LEGACY!!!!!

I was bawling in the prologue and bawling in the epilogue😭😭😭because it was just heartbreakingly beautiful.

Kacey and Theo each made a promise to Jonah before he passed and in all actuality the lied. They wanted to grant him his last wish, never intending on keeping their promise but Jonah knew what he was asking. God I loved him😭he was such a precious sweet soul and a character that will be tattooed on my heart forever.

The guilt that they felt was palpable and I can understand it but I also knew that what Jonah wanted was really inevitable just like he did. Theo was the savior, the selfless man that put everyone first and didn’t even acknowledge his own feelings. I loved when Zelda brought that to his attention. He then became the man that Jonah had wanted him to be consequences be damned.
Kacey was in a downward spiral...again and this time Teddy was the one that saves her. She should have known that he was her forever.

Gaaah...what a story. So many people in real life would have thought, like Oscar and Theo’s mom, that this was unorthodox and tainting Jonahs memory but it was just the opposite, it kept his memory alive, they kept his memory alive.
Out of a tragedy they found the love that they had always wanted and needed. The acceptance of each other regardless of what others thought and a love that was bigger than the universe.

I absolutely loved the secondary characters in this book especially Yvonne. She was what Kacey needed.
The epilogue broke my heart in the best way. It’s so difficult when you lose someone you love so much but to be able to find the silver lining is what is so important and they did this! They loved so fiercely which is what Jonah would have wanted😭
Loved this series so hard!!!! ♥️

    ALL IN by Emma Scott

5 starts but it isn't enough!!!

Omg this is one of the most amazing books I have ever read! Emma Scott is simply amazing!

After reading Full Tilt, loving it beyond words and having my heart broken I wasn't sure how All in would make me feel!

It broke my heart all over again but it also made me smile, gave me goosebumps and made me want to live more. If a book can make you feel that way it's in a whole other league of its own.

There's was just so much emotion it's hard to put it in to words just how much love I felt for Kacey and Theo. I really didn't want the story to end but also craved the happily ever after these two deserved and Emma you did that! You have them the happily ever after they both needed and deserved!

Kacey was so broken, after finally finding peace with Jonah to then have everything torn away. Kacey was left numb and broken. Jonah and Kasey had become each other's lifeline and that lifeline was suddenly torn away from her.

Theo was so lost without his brother, they had such an amazing connection there was bound to be a void in Theo's heart when Jonah finally let go. Theo always took care of others first Jonah, his mother and Kasey. With Kasey finally Theo find comfort and peace.

Kacey and Theo both made promises to Jonah before he took his final breath and both find it agonisingly difficult to carry on without him. Leaning on each other as well as friends they find their way through the pain and loss and can finally see a life without Jonah.

I love that Jonah's work makes such an important place in their life's and will carry on for years to come. Jonah's art in glass will forever live on.

The emotion in this book is absolutely incredible!

One of my favourite lines in the whole book "Love has no boundaries, no rules, no favourites. And no limits"

Emma Scott you have done justice to Jonah and his memory in Full Tilt. All in made me love Theo and Kasey more and more and created a new story that will forever hold a place in my heart!

I'm so pleased there was peace in the end amongst family and friends. Life really is to short.

This book is so amazing! It deserves all the stars in the night sky! Honestly 5 stars isn't enough!

This ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect second book! The only possible ending.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2016
ALL IN is the second book of a duet. The first book is FULL TILT and I recommend to read that one first although theoretically you could read them as a standalone. After the prologue you will understand what happened and easily follow the storyline but to get the full experience of Emma Scott's writing and to really feel it in the deepest angles of your heart you SHOULD read FULL TILT first.

Emma Scott has the ability to take you on an emotional ride with her writing as not many authors can. You laugh with the characters, you feel hurt and joy, loneliness and desperation, you suffer, you cry (a lot), you love. You feel everything they do; you are them!

This is the magic of Emma's writing. It gives you a piece of fiction in all its tragedy and beauty and makes it your own reality for the time reading and as long as you fall back into the story afterwards.

The following gives a little bit away what happens. I DON'T call it a spoiler as the blurb is telling you already what this second book is about. I won't say much more but if you don't want to know any details just go in and trust that you will not be disappointed. There was only one believable ending and Emma found it!

Unimaginable grief of a woman who lost the love of her life by far too early and a brother who lost more than the older brother. Our hearts broke in FULL TILT and still hurt in ALL IN. You feel sorry for Theo and Kacey, you still love her (from the first book) and fall in love with him. Theo is so strong but so vulnerable... You admire both for different reasons. You accompany them on their stony way through grief. With begin of this story you ask yourself how Kacey will overcome the deep loss and ever will find love again after having given her whole heart to Jonah. There is nothing left to give, you feel. Emma Scott shows you that there is the chance of a second love of your life, a different one but nothing less in its depth.
For me the beauty of this second book - besides the style of writing, the wording which touches you deeply - is that it shows you the slow growth of love out of the togetherness in grief and desperation, friendship and understanding. Who else would understand Kacey better than a man who loved Jonah as much as she did. There was only one possible way this story could find a believable ending, an ending which allowed new love to grow without giving up the old one. They are not competing but standing next to each other, each as beautiful as the other.
