Amaranthine Rain: (a Short-Story Collection) Kindle Edition
These are stories about people who tempt the edges of life. Seemingly mild plots sink into deep horror or build with slow intensity. Tropes are tossed on their heads. Triggers are intentionally flipped.
And nothing is off-limits.
From commuter trains to vampire lairs, dragon caves to hotel bars, Victorian bookstores to fortune teller’s tents; each story's setting and mood are as distinct and richly imagined as these twenty works of short fiction. Presented as a collection for the first time are many of Zander’s early stories, award winners, and new short stories written for this very special collection of literary (and sometimes erotic) short fiction.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2014I purchased this set of short stories as I am already a fan of author Zander Zyne's writing, and I was quite intrigued by the title Amaranthine Rain. The author claims this to be an eclectic set of stories, and I found that description to be very true. The stories range from feel-good type romance to cliff-hanger suspense and a bit of everything in between. It would be too hard to pick just one story as a favorite! I did really enjoy the sweetness of "How Jackson Crumb Remembered How to Live," and the fairy tale-like stories "The Last Sacrifice" and "Amethyst's Feather." The "House across the Street" offers a more sinister tale, as does the delightfully creepy "Souvenirs." The author is able to delve into aspects of human (and non-human) nature that are both honest and sincere, as well as those that are inherently sinister and depraved. Truly, this is a wonderful set of short stories, and well worth the read.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2020Wow! This book of short stories took my breath away! Each story was a different genre, with differing points of view and told by man, woman and beast alike. Once I began to read I couldn't stop, and Zander's writing style is absolute magic. Her stories leave you with such differing emotions, ranging from "that's the end?!" to "didn't see that coming!" to "more, more, more!" Reading her words was like watching a master jewelry designer string together the most priceless beads, seamless and beautiful and unlike anything I've seen before. One of my favorite lines in the book was this from "The House Across the Street" -- "The last peachy silver of the setting sun winked out, leaving only indigo stains in the darkened sky." BRAVO!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2014When you find an author that can take words and weave them into a spellbinding literary style of Dark Erotic Fiction, you are in for a treat-a rich, dark chocolaty treat that will make your mouth water. In "Amaranthine Rain", Zander Vyne offers a vast collection that truly illustrates her diverse writing talent. She seems to effortlessly immerses readers in deliciously dark moods, envelopes them in superb aesthetic surroundings, and doesn't get hung up on any frivolous detail. I thoroughly enjoyed the seamless changes in points of view through out this collection, too. Do yourself a favor and read the introduction to this anthology, Holland Carney says it all. If you want intelligent, remarkable, dark erotica... read Zander Vyne.
