Sometimes the end is only the beginning . . .
Annie is single, unemployed and just a bit stuck when her beloved father dies unexpectedly. Furious at his partner’s plans to scatter his ashes somewhere of no emotional significance, Annie seizes the urn and, on a whim, decides to take it on a tour of the thirty-one sea areas that make up the shipping forecast, which her father loved listening to, despite living in landlocked St Albans. Travelling around the coastline of Britain searching for the perfect place to say goodbye, she starts to wonder if it might be time to rethink some of the relationships in her life – but is it too late for second chances?
A novel about love, loss and the importance of living life to the full, Annie Stanley, All at Sea by Sue Teddern is proof that it’s often the most difficult moments in life that show us what really matters.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2022Annie Stanley, All At Sea is a sweet, hopeful, delightfully moving tale that takes you into the life of the lonely, grief-stricken Annie Stanley as she unexpectedly embarks on a journey with her father’s ashes to the coastal towns featured in the shipping forecast her father loved and where along the way she’ll end up confronting the past, facing some tough truths, finding peace and contentment, and ultimately discovering her true self.
The prose is smooth and light. The characters are quirky, endearing, and genuine. And the plot is a touching, adventurous tale about life, loss, family, friendship, independence, heartbreak, grief, self-discovery, and love.
Overall, Annie Stanley, All At Sea is one of those books that snuck up and caught me by surprise and was much better than I ever expected. It’s a lovely, emotive, absorbing read by Teddern that reminds us to always live life to the fullest and never be afraid to try something new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be better.
Warm, wise AND funny-- what could be better! Sue Teddern's Annie is the perfect traveller, collecting friends, self-awareness (and the odd knitting tip) on her way around Britain's coastline. There's more to this journey than a quest to find the perfect scattering place for much-loved Mr.Stanley's ashes. Annie is feisty and determined, but somewhat misguided; she soon discovers that facing her own flaws and coming to terms with her grief is a rather choppy voyage of self-discovery. Annie Stanley All at Sea is a delight to read. The dialogue sparkles, the characters are compelling and Annie herself simply shines.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read
I had no idea what to expect, but as an accidental if frequent listener to the Shipping Forecast, I was fascinated by the starting point. The result is hilarious and moving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!!
This book was just as funny and quirky as I had hoped from reading the reviews. Annie Stanley (or Stannie Anley as an ex-boyfriend called her!) is a complex character, struggling to recover from a stressful teaching job and the death of her father. I loved the writing of this novel, and the central theme of the radio shopping forecast and sea areas around the UK. Don’t want to give away any spoilers, so if you like a warm-hearted, witty novel that also deals with the sadness of bereavement and loss in a sensitive way, then this is a book to savour. I look forward to more novels by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, warm and funny
I am a sucker for a road trip story and a slightly lost soul who finds their purpose through an unexpected journey. I read this after “meeting” the author virtually in a dress worship group, which is a bit random (even by my standards) but I knew I’d enjoy this from the synopsis.
It’s a warm, funny journey around UK sipping forecast areas undertaken by Annie with her dad’s ashes. Along the way, she meets old friends, and old flames, as well as getting to know her remaining family better.
Sweet, with a heroine to cheer along. I liked this a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, just fabulous. Read it!
I’m so glad that I took up my friend’s recommendation to read this as I absolutely loved it too. It’s terrific, and I would recommend it to everyone. It’s just a great read, with fabulous characters that you’re really rooting for, and a delightful story that is just so well written that I just couldn’t put it down.
This isn’t my usual genre, but I’m so pleased I picked it up.
I look forward to reading Sue Teddern’s 2nd book, apparently coming out next August!
