The Asylum Fight Club (24 book series) Kindle Edition
The Asylum Fight Club (24 book series)
Kindle Edition
From Book 1: If there were an emergency number for adulthood, Matt Kincaid would have dialed it months ago. Raising his kid brother alone is already an uphill battle, never mind when an ugly gang initiation lands the teen in lockup. Again. Only, this time for a hate crime against a local fight club, where settling debts isn’t taken lightly. When the club offers to let Matt risk everything in a long-shot match with a man who’s as brutally handsome as he is tough, he jumps at the chance.

If Matt wins, all will be forgiven. If not? Well, he might as well move in, because ‘The Law’ will own his ass...for a very long time.

There are no limits to what Lawson ‘The Law’ Gaumond will do to protect the club he and his former lovers built. An inner-city sanctuary where Anniston Falls’ gay leather culture thrives, The Asylum Fight Club isn’t an easy place, but it’s home. Taking on a local hothead whose younger brother vandalized the space isn’t high on his priority list, but there’s something about Matt that cries out for a firm hand.

Lawson’s never backed down from a fight, and he’s not about to start when there’s no way he can lose.

When renewed gang violence erupts, spilling blood over The Asylum, Lawson and Matt must confront their pasts to find a way forward. Gunshots and knives should be harder to survive than this rough love, but coming to the ring armed with nothing but the truth is their greatest challenge of all.

Where to start. I've read this series for the past two years. The books are exquisitely well-written, although over time characteristics change i.e. the sub in book one is described as short, then later tall. The first nine books - if you read those and stop there - are typical romance books with hard-won HEAs.

    Spoilers below...

After the books, the stories started to be written episodically apparently. One of the "throuples" from book 8 - later on another dominant tells people that he is letting the sub be with his two partners, and that if he decides not to "let" the sub be with his men he won't. Not good. That same person tells another character that he loves him in a non-romantic way, then later infers that he can't stand him. Characters change over time - I'm talking complete personality changes, not the normal character development.

Then... the couple from book three, whose story is in book three and continues for several books afterwards - yeah, well - they DIVORCE. Once again, they DIVORCE. I read many genres of books for various reasons, thrillers, etc. With romance I am expecting a HEA and one that is not broken. That is the genre convention and expectation, and I wanted to warn fellow romance readers that after book nine this series takes a hard turn away from it. I have stopped reading this series, but I don't know what will happen in further books, who will split up, who will die...

It’s crazy that anyone would leave a bad review for this series. The authors may do things differently than others but I think it helps expand the world these characters live in. I highly recommend these book. They are my comfort reads and my go to for long trips.

    *Minor spoilers below*

The decisions made by the characters in these books are all well thought out and explained thoroughly. It all just makes sense. These men deal with their trauma in different ways and that translates onto the pages. The characters don’t always make the best decisions but they always come from a place of love. If they react badly to something due to past trauma, they try to fix it best they can. This is all about consensual power exchange. Remember that any of these characters can leave these relationships if they want. I know some people are upset about a divorce of one of the couples. They are still together but they have grown enough as people and are comfortable enough in their relationship to realize that being married isn’t what is right for them anymore. They decide together that being in a power exchange but not being married is what’s best for them. While this series has its moments where it leaves reality behind, I love the fact that the characters are constantly growing as people and are having realizations about their relationships that are realistic. Not everyone in love stays married forever. Love changes and evolves. I feel like if you go into this series with an open mind then you will never be disappointed.
