It was a cute lite read.. and fast pace.. Vampires, mates, drama, smut and some action what's not to like.. It kept my interest as I got to know all the characters.. It did take me a minute to get used to the writing and sometimes it's a little confusing on who's talking and I'm my opinion it could use and edit.. but with all that being said it was a cute read and I'm looking forward to reading more of this series..

I'm a fairly new reader of the paranormal romance genre, but I do read (and write) a lot of romance and erotica. With that said, I have to say that this book left a lot to be desired. TO THE AUTHOR: Please take what I'm about to write as *constructive* criticism. I mean no disrespect and only wish, as one author to another, to help you improve your craft.

Technically, this book and this author is in desparate need of two things: (1) a thesaurus, and (2) a critique group. The same words were used over and over and over again--sometimes within the same sentence. It made it painful to read. Furthermore, loading it down with adverbs in between the repeated words doesn't help. It only made it worse, in my opinion. A good critique group or parnter would have been a tremendous help. Close family and friends don't count. They're only going to tell you how great it is and that they want more. Find a group of people you don't know and let them have a stab at it. You'd be surprised how helpful it is.

The characters felt a bit one dimensional to me. I was quickly fed up with Sera's incessant crying. And Liam, altough better written than Sera, still lacked something. I don't know if it was because he was so possessive or what, but he just didn't strike me as the hero type. And as I write this review, I honestly can't say with any certainty that I care about either of them or what hapeens to them.

The premise of the book was good, but the plot had a lot of holes in it. Everything that happened seemed to be a bit too convienent as well. (Spoilers ahead!) Jacob, who'd attacked Sera in high school, hadn't bothered to show his face to her in nearly three and a half years and suddenly he shows up. Why? Okay, I know Sera's jealous friend hunted him down in an attempt to ruin Sera's relationship with Liam, but come on! It read more like an easy way for Liam to race to Sera's rescue and save her. It was also an easy fix to how the truth about Liam's identity was going to be revealed. It lacked orginality. Then, later in the book, Beth, the woman who sired Liam, shows up intent on killing Sera. Believable? Sure. But again, it was a bit too convienent that Liam had yet another reason to resuce the poor, helpless Sera.

I'm also wondering what was the author's purpose behind waiting until half way through the book to reveal that Liam was a vampire? If it was to elicit a gasp of shock from the reader she didn't get that from me. The little clues she left throughout pretty much gave it away before Liam ever spoke the words. But, knowing that I knew he was a vampire, the haunted house scene was fantastic! As they were leading the masses of people through the house I couldn't help but wonder if Liam and the others were stealing a meal or two along the way. I was also (one of the only times) worried that someone was going to snatch Sera and suck her dry.

The sex scenes were probably the best part of this book. The author didn't use any purple prose or flowery language. There were no throbbing members or womanly caverns: for that I was grateful. However, because of the redundant descriptions and overuse of adverbs, after the first two sex scenes, I found myself skimming over them. They were believable and tender though.

As some other reviews have said, there were some grammatical errors, but they didn't bother me as they were so minor they were easily overlooked. Overall it wasn't horrible and if you're looking for an entertaining read, then this will be a good book for you. I can tell that the author poured her heart into this novel. Of that I have no doubts. It's also very apparent that the author loves what she does (writing) and for that I can't find any fault. Kudos to her for seeing a novel through to publication. That's not an easy feat. Unfortuntely, this book isn't going to be for everyone and I'm torn on it. It had it's good parts, but for me there were just too many negatives. I will, however, give this author another chance in the future.

This book was like a more appealing, exciting, and rated-R version of Twilight. Despite the fact that I was i visioning Twilight with everything revolving around these Vamps, they DID NOT SPARKLE!! I cannot even begin to tell you just how much that fact pleased me.

The first half of the book was pretty dull, only in that there was not much in the way of action (and I'm not talking about sexually; there was PLENTY of that). Nothing very eventful happened beyond the brief encounter with Jacob, which was actually a lot less exciting than I had anticipated. It was over and done with before we had even gotten to experience it. Kind of a bummer. Oh well.

The attraction between Sera and Liam was instantaneous and totally combustible. Before it could be truly complete, however, Liam had to first win over Sera's trust, as she has a past with harmful men. But boy, does Liam bring out the good in Sera. He has all the devotion and heart to bring out Sera's confidence and wholehearted trust in him, and then things get truly flammable. *squealing

Until the encounter with Jacob, though, the first half of the book is pretty my like any normal college relationship (at least I assume so, as I am only in High School I suppose I can't quite make that assurance. Making it anyway.) Sera and Liam seem to be your typical couple. The Vampire within Liam doesn't even seem to be present and we don't get to see much of this side of him. That is, until he kills Jacob in a fit of beastly rage. Then all goes to hell as he has no choice but to reveal his true self to Sera. This is where we see the crux of their feelings for each other, as they must both make sacrifices for the one they have come to love.

And thus, we dive into the second part of the book and the culmination of action provoked by outside forces. Sera's best friend has the brilliant idea to take the group away for some fun in the mountains. However, their plans are shot to hell when a blizzard leaves them stuck in the cabin with four hungry vampires and one crazy trampire (tramp-vampire for those of you who were curious) who is dead-set on taking Sera's life. It is pure chaos of our little group as they attempt to protect those unaware of the dangers they face. And it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of these amazing characters (the main group anyway). They were so well-rounded and dynamic, interesting and captivating. I fell totally in love and I am delighted at the time and effort that this author obviously put into this book. It was truly spectacular.

I'm not quite done with the book yet, but I am pleasantly surprised. 5 stars easy

I have read part of a series from another author and I got triggered so badly. So much so that I wasn't sure if I should ever read any more vampire books period.

Light spoilers.... Not huge plot points. Just pointing out something...

I mean, a lot of books on paranormals have vampires, shifters, etc, and that paranormal has a "past". Now don't get me wrong, most of us do. Nothing wrong with that. But when the MC is a total man who..e throughout his existence, and the only reason given is that he's a paranormal and it's normal for them, it's just a major turn off to what I am reading. Seriously, some books make it that their behaviour would make Caligula proud.

And we are supposed to root for that? Give me something a little more complex and less, wtf I just read?!?

So yes the MC has a past that is somewhat extensive. However, nothing here Culigula worthy. Seriously if you don't know who that is, look him up. He was a Roman emperor who loved total debauchery and violence. Sick mofo....

And there is more depth to the story than I expected! Not the most complex story, but complex enough!! I really like this so far!

    BIG actual spoiler below...

One concept I found interesting is that the guys in the book did not know about mates. And only really learned after their friend David, who was going to a school farther away from the main vampire group, showed up.

I have seen that in some books, but it's usually the human who doesn't know, or the supernatural who knows nothing about being supernatural.

But in this case, a group of vampires didn't know. And it fits the storyline perfectly.

I am happy with the series so far and will continue reading!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating read for Vampire lovers
Reviewed in Australia on November 29, 2016

I wish there were more than 5 stars this is the best Vampire story I have read in ages and yes for me it was better than Twilight.

Liam and Sera from the very first moment Liam became aware of Sera something magical pulled him to her and he knew from that moment everything would change he just didn't realise how or why all Liam knew was that she would be his Forever.........

Sera shy, introverted college girl just wants to be left in peace to study. Sera has a past she never talks about but her roommate Kathleen is determined not to let Sera hide away for her who college experience so she keeps draggin Sera to frat party after frat party hoping it will loosen Sera up but it doesn't not until the night her eyes meet Liam's across the room then everything changes.....

Serendipity is her full name and Liam is besotted and devoted forever but he knows he can't keep her there is secrets he needs to keep hidden and she will never accept him for who he really is or will she.

When Liam and Sera continue to get closer others try to force them apart but the thing is when a Vampire finds his soul mate there is NOTHING in this universe strong enough to keep them apart well nothing short of death anyway and it may come to that sooner rather than later.

Awakened was a captivating read from beginning to end.
