A Baby for the Firefighter (Oceanport Omegas Book 2) Kindle Edition
When childhood best friends Griff and Dean meet again, sparks fly…
In Oceanport, New England’s most gossipy small town, people wonder about Griff. Such a cute omega can’t possibly be satisfied without a proper mate they say. Yet he’ll be thirty soon and as far as they know he’s never been with anyone! The truth is that Griff has given up on finding love… that is until his childhood best friend moves back to town and sets his heart on fire.
When Dean’s firefighter career is sidetracked by a tragic accident, returning to his roots to mend seems like a good move. It gives him a chance to breathe, as well as a chance to reconnect with his oldest friend, the omega who stole his heart when they were young. For some reason though, Griff keeps shying away from him, and it takes Dean a lot of patience, and a ton of cupcakes, to lure the sugar-addict out of his shell—and into his arms.
But Dean’s memories are still seared by the tragedy that sent him home and Griff is afraid of giving in to his omega instincts. Can they win through their personal walks of fire or is their flame bound to burn out?

- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWe got to know Griffin as the caring uncle and super supportive brother in the first book of the Oceanport Omegas series. When his parents kicked out Elias, his pregnant college aged Omega brother Griffin went with him. Knowing how devastated his older brother was at being abandoned by his parents when he needed them the most. Griffin stepped up in a big way. Because he primarily worked from home Griff was able to watch his nephew Jake while his brother sought out employment.
All the work he did from his heart for his brother, nephew, and their sweet Labrador retriever, Fiona was rewarded when Elias once reunited with Jake's father, the newly married couple purchased the house for Griffin to remain. Despite being able to now concentrate on his career & self, Griffin felt very lonely in the empty house. His nephew and brother visited, but it wasn't the same. Until the inspiration to have friends over suggested by his young nephew changed the direction of his friendship with his long time Alpha friend & firefighter, Dean who had recently returned to Oceanport.
Dean had been hurt and returned home to recuperate & get over having PTSD from being trapped in a deadly fire. He felt he needed to take additional time, so when his recently widowed cousin Shane needed help with his young daughter and withdrawn son, so Dean went there to do whatever was needed. Ever since the death of Shane's Omega spouse things have been very difficult for the surviving family members. Dean was really helpful working at Shane's Nursing Home. Something his cousin's spouse had been integral in assisting with. Dean was very happy to renew his friendship with Griffin, but could wished there was more. Though it was better to have Griffin's sweet tooth friendship despite wanting more, than no relationship at all.
A traumatized Griffin wants more too than his friendship with Dean, but his own demons keep him from moving forward. It takes wine, jealousy, and a date open both Dean and Griffin's eyes to what could be. But it's going to take a lot of work including communication and advice from more experienced Omegas and Alphas.
I really enjoyed this book. It showed a nonshifter Alpha in a different light: insecurities, nightmares, indecision, and who took excellent care taken of not only his cousin & his baby/younger cousins, but of elderly patients at a care facility owned by his cousin Shane.
Griffin and his brother Elias had a tumultuous relationship with their parents. It is in this story that we finally meet them. Is it possible to overcome ten years of anger and unresolved emotions?
The sweetness in this book was at an all time high. Griffin loved sweets and Dean loved making cupcakes for him. Griffin loved watching cartoons as much as his young nephew Jake (and so do I :0). For all you mpreg fans you get your wish, as well as the dog lovers. If you have been searching for your shining knight you'll find him here. Book Three was just released and I'm starting in 5-4-3-2-1... (I just wonder who it's going about?! Can't wait to find out)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhile I liked this book its not my favorite of the entire series. This book was a more on the sweet and sugary side than book one was. Absolutely no angst or drama in this book, just a really cute story overall.
And the award for the most Patient and Understanding Alpha goes to....
Dean, Alpha, firefighter, baker, Sweetest most understanding, patient guy on the planet. lol. Taking a break from his job, he comes back into town to help his cousin with his business after moving away when he was a teen where he ends up reconnecting with his teenage best friend Griff.
Griff, Omega, Photographer, Sugar obsessed, Virgin and Afraid of the attraction he still has to his teenage friend and crush Dean.
I was really happy with the way this book turned out. To see a couple, Dean and Griff turn from friends into more and have actual conversations about their feelings, and making sure they each both feel comfortable about where they are in life and where they are headed together was refreshing. There relationship together just had a natural progression to it and wasn't rushed at all. The way Dean took his time to make sure Griff was happy at all times was really sweet. Also, I really hate Griffs parents, they are horrible people and I wish they would have stayed out of the story, but I do see why the author added them in. I liked that we also got to see more of Griff's brother Eli (from book 1) and that we got to meet Shane and his kids, who we should be seeing in the next book 3 of this series.
Audio - John Solo is doing great with this series and I really hope the Author sticks with him for the rest. He really made sure that Griff and Dean both were unique characters with his narration and I really enjoyed listening to this book.

As always Ms Byrde delivered a sweet and interesting story filled with great characters, a thoughtful plot, and adorable babies. I knew I'd love Griffin from what I saw of him in the first book and I wasn't wrong about the caring and funny photographer. And I adored Dean! He was so kind and considerate. He never pushed Griff's limits and respected what he said. I think the development of their relationship from friends to lovers was handled well and believably. Also, I liked that this book forced Griff and Eli to face their relationship with their parents and I thought that was important for them and for the story as a whole. This story was so fluffy and sweet while also confronting real issues (anxiety, PTSD, social pressure, etc.). And the epilogue!!! It was the perfect sweet, funny end to a lovely book.
I did have one small gripe, though. *Possible light spoiler* I'm not sure I like that Dean went back to being a firefighter, purely because it didn't seem like he really wanted to. It seemed more like he was lovingly pressured back into that career. Everyone assumed he would go back, and he felt he would be less of an alpha (less of a man) if he admitted to having nightmares about the job. He thought the people he loved would think less of him if he stopped being a firefighter and that's just not true. He could have stayed as an aide working for his cousin or he could have gone for opening a bakery with Matt or anything really. There was no real need to force him back into a career he dreaded, at least not that I could glean from the book. This was a very, very small part of the story and so it was a very small gripe that I feel strongly about.
All in all, I highly recommend this book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCute story with lovely mcs Dean and Griffin. Once upon time they were friends until Dean moved away. Now he's back in town to support his family and to clear his head. He also decided it was time to have a certain shy man back in his life and hopefully make him fall for him one cupcake at a time.
This book consists of friendship, little of the brothers bond and family love and support as well as opinionated parents. Fast read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful continuation
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really like the first part "The Omegas Secret Baby". This book is about the Omega Griff and his school friend, the Alpha Dean. The two have lost sight of each other.
As Dean returns to Oceanport, they renew their relationship. Both have to fight with trials.
Dean would be injured in an assignment and Griff has problems with physical love.
In addition there is also the very problematic relationship of Griff and his brother Eli to their parents.
The history is wonderful romantic, with a lot of depth, partly also very funny. I suffered with Griff and Dean and launched with and about them. The book is really great, like all other books by the author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Friends to lovers
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI liked how Dean and Griff's relationship developed. Dean was so sweet, gentle and patient with Griff who was very shy and timid. They both liked each other years ago before Dean had to move away and this attraction was rekindled when he returned. Their brothers were interesting additions to the story and gave it more depth.
There was very little drama, low angst and spicy times. I like alpha and omega stories but I'm not keen on mpreg hence the three stars.
