- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2021D.G. Carothers created a masterpiece that not only highlights relationships but never lets up on the steam factor. I’m glad I didn’t read it in public. Holy heck. Normally with that level of steam factor I don’t see a balance with the relationship and storyline, but this author managed it perfectly.
The world building was vivid and detailed. I love D.G. Carothers’ other series Kink Files, so I was excited to see this is set in the same world. It not only fit perfectly in it but expanded on it flawlessly.
The plot is engaging and well thought out. BDSM and kink books are among my favorite to read and this is one of my favorite authors for it. Even if something isn’t my kink, D.G. Carothers writes it in a way that I appreciate. It’s a respectful, accurate, and incredibly hot representation of kink.
I loved the characters and definitely enjoyed the chemistry between them. The secondary characters blew me away and I can’t wait for more of their stories! I’m curious to see what happens because if there’s one thing I’ve learned with this author it’s that I’ll never be able to predict how a story or series goes.
5 stars for an incredibly original, fun, and hot book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2023Decent story, just not for me. I found this to be overly wordy, like there were a lot of in depth explanations about the simplest things. It took me a while to get interested in where the story was going. Sounding is definitely not my jam, but it didn't bother me to read about it. Overall, this was ok.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021I listened to the audiobook of Bear Essentials and loved how it was narrated and produced. For a book full of kink, hot sex, and fascinating characters, the audiobook needed a narrator with range and depth. Christopher Rourke met all those needs and gave a fantastic audio performance that was perfect this book.
Baring It All is the first book in the Bear Essentials series, but it is a spin off from another series: the Kink Files, which I haven’t read yet. The relationship between the two main characters was already established, and I felt like I was missing some of the backstory. However, once the romance was established, it was easy to follow along and become sucked into the story. Basil is the owner of Bear Essentials, a spa business that does it all and does it well. I love the concept of Bear Essentials and it was fascinating to learn more about the business and the interactions between the employees and customers.
D.G. Carothers is a very vivid writer, who puts in details and fully fleshes out the scene. This was fantastic when it came to the sex scenes in the book. The scenes were hot, and written with an authenticity and realism that I don’t normally see in many romance books. I really enjoyed all the kink that was portrayed in the book and thought it meshed really well with the characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2021This is the first time I’ve read this author and I will be reading more of their work!! The characters are well developed and the storyline is heartfelt. Basil is just going through the motions in life. He is fulfilled with his job but never goes out because he just doesn’t make time. Until one day Dylan makes him open his eyes. Dylan is Basil’s employee/roommate sometimes. There is a little bit of kink and plenty of steamy scenes. I just adore this book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2023I like the story but there were just too many characters with to similar names. I kept having to backtrack to remember who was who.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2023Basil is the owner of Bear Essentials, basically an all inclusive spa that caters to men especially, as well as all members of the LBGTQ community. Dylan is an employee who has been working there for two years. The two have had a relationship as friends in that time, but nothing more until a co-worker mentions Dylan’s interest in the boss. The easy-going friendship is now plagued with doubts, insecurities, and a need for more communication. As things develop and the interests in certain kinks are revealed, Basil finds there might be more to this attraction to his friend than he ever expected and the chance for a partner he never imagined.
This book mentioned characters I recognized from another series by the same author, called Kink Files Omnibus. Basil’s business, Bear Essentials was also mentioned, and that led to the connection for me between this book and the one mentioned previously.
This is a fairly quick read with interesting characters and some kinks not usually found in most of the MM/BDSM books I have read.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2023I love D.G. Carothers' stories, including the Kink Files, because they are so thoughtful, complex, sexy, and heartfelt. This story is another great one, with a rich backstory, wonderful main and secondary characters, such realistic and erotic kink scenes, and so much love. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for Mel and Blu's story in Book 2! Highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot friends to lovers
I enjoyed this novella about Basil who owns a salon for taking care of all of one's outside needs and his employee Dylan. They are close and have been friends for 2 years but it isn't until a colleague points out that Dylan is crazy for Basil that he realises he was clueless. There's a lot of steam and a particularly hot kink scene with needle and bead play I hadn't read about before. I gave it 4* as I thought it was a but pricey for a 90 page novella, wishing it was longer and we had more time with them once they got together..
