They were point men of the air war, and wherever they went the hammer of death came down…

Vietnam, 1968

American firepower could deliver pure destruction into the enemy’s lap, but someone had to find him.

That’s where the U.S. Air Force pilots of the single-engine Cessna 0-1 Bird Dog recon planes made their mark in Vietnam.

Flying unarmed into the VC’s front yard, the Bird Dog pilots shot flares down on the enemy and spotted him for destruction.

Down in the Hobo Woods a die-hard VC unit have a big secret — a tunnel complex dug in too deep for American artillery to reach them.

But using a one-two punch with troop-laden Huey's, the Bird Dog pilots plan to spring an ambush.

In the death and blood of the Hobo Woods, who will ambush who?

Will the Bird Dog pilots live to fly another day?

This explains the Air Force use of small planes the spot and keep an eye on the enemy. This plane had limited rockets to fire at the enemies. The men that flew these planes helped the Army to spot the foreign forces, but also helped in spotting movement that would make the US Army more effective in fighting the enemy. Bird Dog does an excellent job and describing the function of these brave men that flew over Vietnam and reported the activities of the enemy.

I was an attack pilot (USMC A4s) with 225 missions in Nam and have rarely read such realistic descriptions of air supporting ground ops. Dialog is accurate and the writing outstanding. Well done!

Air power & artty pound a small area of South Vietnam to save ground forces caught in field at night because of a glory seeking CO.

A pretty good reading story of the Vietnam war. Not quite as good as the first book however.

Unrealistic dialog, reads like it was written by a computer program I see that the author churns out books by the hundreds. Read a soup can instead.
