Blood Thorn: A Vampire Fae Paranormal Romance (Highland Blood Fae Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 728 ratings

Everyone thinks Ainsley Morris is your basic science nerd—a botany major who prefers the lab to the party scene—and maybe they’re right. But she’s got plans. Big plans that’ll keep her from repeating her mother’s mistakes. So even though life hasn’t always been rosy, at twenty-one, it’s finally less thorny.

That is, until she meets him. Alex Campbell.

Sure, he’s ridiculously handsome, rich, and powerful. And maybe he can steam up a room (and…um…other things) just by turning his green eyes in Ainsley’s direction. But unfortunately he’s also completely insane.

Alex thinks he's some kind of vampire fae. And not only that, he says he's the leader of said vampire faes and that Ainsley's their queen.

Uh…excuse me?

Worse, he says they’re nearing extinction, and she’s their only shot at survival.

Right. Ainsley has her own problems to worry about.

But when her body begins reacting in ways even a science nerd can't explain, it might be more than Alex’s survival on the line. It might just be her very own. Because those big plans of hers? They're about to come bite her in the ass.

USA Today bestselling author A.S. Green lives in chilly Minnesota and spends the all-too-short summers on Lake Superior, which is the muse for her paranormal and contemporary romances. She writes complex characters, action-packed plots, and snarky in-your-face banter. And, of course, loads of steamy love scenes.

When she's not writing romance, she's probably watching Outlander or pleading (unsuccessfully) with her husband to don the kilt she bought him last summer.

This is a new faction of fae from the previous books I loved. Alex is chieftain of a motley crew of fae that are close to extinction. Ainsley is part fae and never knew it. She is the key to their salvation as well as Alex's mate. There is still danger when a hunter goes after Ainsley. I loved that Cormac was back to help Alex and the Campbell clan. The hellhounds were some of my favorites, but then I could say the same about the other series' I've read by this author. This is a great beginning and I can't wait for book two.

Ainsley always thought she was a normal, if slightly nerdy, human.
Alex is a four hundred year old plus, blood drinking Fae.
When Alex meets Ainsley, he knows she is his queen; and decidedly not human...

This is a quick, standalone romance, but it is part of an ongoing series, and loosely related to other trilogies by the author (same world, same area, different people).
It’s a paranormal romance/urban fantasy romance, with non-human characters and unusual abilities.
An enjoyable read, fans of PNR and UF will enjoy.

Ainsley is working at the Ren Faire when she feels she's being watched. Later at a club, she meets a hottie and wants more. More is exactly what she gets!
Finding out she is a queen who is destined to keep the last of a breed of blood drinking Fae alive is not what she expected. Learning the truth about her heritage and history leads to love with her new boss, and leads her into danger she didn't know existed.
With a HEA and introduction to 5 brothers, this first book in the series makes me want to read more.

Ainsley is studying to be a botanist, she seems to have an affinity for plants. She is working at a Renaissance Fair and feels like she is being watched. Alex can't believe she even exists. He found a queen. Alex has to slowly introduce her to his world. Her mind swirls from all that she has learned. Truths are revealed and it all comes together. Can she be kept safe or will they lose their queen? Very good story

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing

I Liked the beginning, but otherwise it was very disappointing, a lot of things weren't fully developed. The story could have been good, there was a lot that was interesting, but the execution wasn't good.

This tiny band of remnants has stolen its way into my heart. I loved this first book in the series and I’m hoping the next one is out because I want to keep reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's just ok
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 6, 2023
It's an okay read if you have free time to spare. For me it was more about the sexual tension and them going to bed then any real actual character development, or their backstories. The characters and the world developed have so much potential, but instead i need to be reminded every chapter that his shaft is hard. Don't get me wrong, the maturity is a big part of the stories but i would actually like some good worked trought plot aswell. The main antagonist i know nothing about him and he's just there so the plot doesn't fall apart. I don't have any interest in reading the rest of the books.
