Christina McMullen is a science fiction and fantasy author who just can't seem to keep humor from sneaking into everything she writes. When she's not writing (which is most of the time these days), she's either getting her butt kicked in Mario Kart or catering to the whims of a very small and very grouchy dog.

While this story is self-contained, it does pick up from where Eyes of The Sun stops. The cast has a few expansions for this one, and each of them are given a brief time in the spotlight as they are deftly woven into the overall tapestry of intrigue, corruption, suspense, and surprises.

The world building continues to remain rich and very in depth as the story moves away from New Orleans into the northern part of the state. I especially loved a couple of the scenes that described how the cast moved from one point to another, as the areas under Christina's lens had a similar effect on me when I traveled through Louisiana. It was wonderful to see very realistic reactions.

The character development also continues to keep pace with the quality of the story telling. Even down to the quarrels over minor things that are blown out of proportion, or the grumpy attitudes as characters are ordered to do things they don't always consider fair. With the fantasy elements deftly woven in to the created reality, it was almost as much fun guessing who was going to be storming off in a huff this time as it was trying to guess what else was going to go wrong next.

Within the plot itself, were enough twists and turns that I wondered at times how Christina kept it all straight, much less managed to keep all the loose ends together long enough to tie them up neatly as things wound down in the last chapter. It was definitely a roller coaster ride of fun while I was reading, and left me eager do dive straight into the last book.

    The Only Thing I Disliked
-I'd like to think Lucy would be more rational about Andre's extraordinary circumstances early on and not hold it against him.

    "Ka-blammo!"

That's the sound "Bluebeard's Children" makes as it fires out of the barrel - right from the start - with adventure, action, and high stakes. Like a good sequel should, it doesn't rehash what worked in the previous story, it continues the story and adds to the world.

Lucy Soriano is back at it, fully engaged in her rehabilitation of vampires, when she is targeted by the villainous Bluebeard. Knowledge about Lucy's origin, past, and family are revealed as she and the team face-off against him. Bluebeard's compound is dangerous and unpredictable, while his actions are vile and despicable. All-in-all, it's a well rounded story and deftly told.

If you enjoyed the first one, don't stop there - give this one a read!

I almost considered making the font smaller on my Kindle so I could read the book faster. Christina did a wonderful job getting the reader right back into Lucy's story. It had been a while since I read Eyes of the Sun and worried I would be lost, but I wasn't. I really enjoyed getting to know Lucy more and some of the new characters were easy to get to know and care about in the story. It was fast paced and kept me turning the pages at record speed. I'm not sure one more book will quench my thirst for following Lucy. Come on book three!!

The first 1\2 I was getting fed up with the heroin and her stubborn charge in and make things worse attitude. Glad to see the growth in the character and toning down the aspects that were so annoying. A lot happened but it seemed a little frenetic and a tad monotonous with constantly having to rescue someone. Creative with plenty of action.

Again this author is good. This is well done characters and entertaining story line. I am truly enjoying the characters and their lives. The only bad thing I can say is I would like this better if it was one book. It has villains, super villains, romance, super good guys and lots of action. All set in New Orleans.
