Sweetheart (The Busy Bean) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 900 ratings

“A forbidden romance with a fun heroine and gorgeous writing!” - Sarina Bowen

Four years ago, Haley had a giant crush on her sister's boyfriend. But when he moved away, she put Beck out of her mind.

It’s a shock to find that he’s back—and roasting the best coffee in Vermont for the Busy Bean’s local competitor.

Haley is going to need to get her hands on those beans…as well as a few more of the kisses they accidentally share outside the coffee shop. Beck still makes her heart race faster than a triple shot of espresso.

Haley’s sister burned Beck’s life to the ground, so she’s the last woman he should bring into his bed. Nobody can know. But their business relationship is giving way to something more than a fine grind. Neither of them can help ourselves. And what’s worse, he may be falling for her…

Content note: this fun and sexy romance contains a secondary character with mental health challenges. While that story is merely a small part of the book, we mention it out of an abundance of caution.

All the feels in this one! Amazing!
Haley is starting a new job at the Busy Bean when suddenly the diner in town starts to take all their coffee sales from them. Some amateur sleuthing leads her to Dark Horse coffee and their delicious beans... beans they should be selling at the Busy Bean!!! Only problem is the co-owner of Dark Horse is Beck, the ex boyfriend of Haley’s high maintenance older sister. And the poor guy is harboring some serious scars from the time they spent together. But, they decide to work together and soon, they are unable to keep their mutual attraction from manifesting into a seriously hot romance... but the ghost of the relationship he shared with Hayley’s sister looms over them and the pain of it rears it’s ugly head at the worst of times. This book shredded my heart! I was so furious that Hayley had to live in her sisters shadow the way she did. I loved seeing all the wonderful familiar faces from other books in this little world. I just absolutely loved this book from beginning to end!!

Such a great book to kick start this series! The Busy Beans series is another branch from the World of True North. And this book, Sweetheart by Sarah Mayberry was a great one to start it off. For those who have read Sarina Bowen's True North series, then you recognize the Busy Bean as Zara and Audrey's cafe. Plus you will recognize Roddy after reading Bowen's The Roommate. Plus a bunch of other familiar faces from that world. Mayberry does an amazing job of adding another member to the Busy Bean family when Haley is hired. Haley has quite a lot of experience in the cafe world and it is the perfect set up as she works on her side job which is an Etsy store for her custom made leather boots, belts, and so much more. Her artistic talent is one that blows everyone away. And just as she starts her new job, she finds herself in the path of Daniel Beck. AKA her sister's ex from years ago and by the expression on his face, he isn't too pleased to see her. And she can't blame him. She knows her sister is destructive, she could only imagine how their break up really ended. But what's worse is that she always had a crush on Beck and for him to look at her like that...well, it isn't great. However, it isn't long until something changes and they realize the chemistry and attraction between one another is unlike anything either felt before. And Haley begins to wonder if it is not too crazy to have a relationship with him. Beck is definitely confused at first when it comes to Haley. The opposite of her sister in every way and though he promises himself to stay clear of that family, there is something about Haley that just draws him in. And he soon learns that Haley might be just the one he was looking for all along. Loved their story so much. Their relationship has so many complications but despite those challenges, the chemistry between Haley and Beck is undeniable. You were rooting for them to find their happily ever after, especially with everything the two of them have been through. Great start to this series and I cannot wait for more!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Beck (MMC) and his brother have recently started an exclusive coffee bean business and Haley Elliot (MFC) wants their beans for The Busy Beans coffee shop, that she works at.

Haley has had a secret crush on Beck for years, but he’s the off limits hottie, because he’s her sister’s ex-boyfriend and it seems like it was a bad breakup. Still she can’t help but being attracted to Beck and he seems to be attracted to her too, if that kiss 💋 tells her anything.

This was an enjoyable story and it deals with some difficult topics so, check out the author’s content warnings, before diving in.

I sat down to read this story in the middle of my granddaughter's remote class and I could not put it down. I felt like I had walked into the Busy Bean myself to grab a cup of coffee and met all these wonderful fun characters. I mean here we have Zara and Audrey who own this wonderful cafe that sells and serve coffee and amazing food. We can not forget Haley who works part-time there and is the main draw who and she owns an ETSY shop just like me! Only hers is successful! We have Daniel and Sam Beck two hot coffee bean, makers or whatever you call them. And Daniel is so much more than that, there is history between Daniel and Haley. Well sort of. And therein is where the story gets good. I really honestly love how the author addressed all the issues in this story head-on and did not shy away at all. I am so happy that we continued on with another story based around the Busy Bean and it's actually written by a different author. I like how this is going as a team writing.

It was ok. Sooo, we have the female character which was close to awesome but not quite: cute, short, plush hips, nice calves and pretty eyes. 25 y o but mature. Unfortunately she didn't win me even when she speaks and thinks as older and wiser woman. More humour maybe would have made her better or if she was getting education or I don't really know what. He, Beck wasn't bad either. Both of them were nice enough to make me keep reading. The other reason that I didn't give up was that I like Sarah Mayberry writing and characters and I was hoping to change, become better. But here I felt that the sister of the heroine took huge space. I understand why, but because the main characters were not able to blow me away, the sister's problem became central in the plot.

Haley is a shoemaker by trade who needs to work at the Busy Bean to supplement her income while building up her business. Beck owns his own business roasting coffee to sell to surrounding businesses. He also used to go out with Haley's "unstable" sister and she really put him off relationships . When these two meet again their is an instant attraction but because of her sister he refuses to have anything to do with her and initially refuses to sell coffee to the bean. The more encounters they have they begin to get closer and eventually begin a relationship but the shadow of her sister always lingers. Words can't express how much I LOVE this book. It's beautifully written and is truly a perfect addition to the series.

This is a new author to me and I really enjoyed her writing. Lots of depth and a real, magnetic connection between the main characters. There were some barriers to overcome in the relationship between the H & the h, but the story never became too heavy and the romance evolved and grew. I’ll be looking up more titles from this author.

I'm not sure how to start this review. I finished this book last night but decided against reviewing immediately as my emotions were in turmoil. I have a sister just like Haley's sister, so to say this romance hit a nerve would be an understatement. This storyline is where the book triumphs. The conflict that made their HAE more difficult was genuinely refreshing and intriguing.
Haley and Beck were a great couple. Two people getting on with their lives and have an immediate connection. What I loved about this story was how hot they were for each other. Sometimes authors worry too much about sensational sex in varied places. Sarah just had these two having sex because they simply could not stay away from each other and the bedroom. I loved it. Why four stars. This is a top-notch romance, but for me, not a keeper as I liked Haley and Beck, but I don't see me dipping back into their world. However, compared to the multitudes of romantic dross available, this is well worth the investment of money and time.

Having really enjoyed Sarina Bowen's True North series I thought I'd give this connected, multi author series a go. This is the first book I have read by Sarah Mayberry, but I liked it after a bit of a slow start. This is a sister's ex boyfriend story, greatly complicated by that sister having serious mental health issues. I really felt for Haley and Beck in what is an impossible situation. The characters were well realised and it was great to meet up with old friends again.
