Code Name: Ghost (Jameson Force Security Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 935 ratings

I knew the risks of this job when I signed on with Jameson Force Security. Knew my time as a marine would prepare me for the danger I would face. But no amount of training could have ever prepared me for the helplessness of watching my teammates die, the agonizing mental and physical pain of torture, or the despair of captivity.

Returning home to Pittsburgh following a mission gone wrong, I am riddled with guilt and haunted by nightmares. I spend my days trying to regain the parts of myself I lost in that desert, the pieces that made me the Malik Fournier I once was. While the physical effects of my torture are fading, the emotional ones are proving much more stubborn and I find solace from the last person I should ever seek such comfort.

Anna Tate lost even more than I did in that mission. Now a widow and a single mom to the daughter she gave birth to shortly after her husband’s death, Anna offers me comfort I don’t deserve. As my feelings for Anna grow, I worry that once she learns the truth about what happened, she’ll turn her back on me.

I pull her to me just as tightly as I push her away. Hoping this forbidden love will save me from the ghost I’ve become.

Such an amazing read
Code Name: Ghost by Sawyer Bennett is a book I feel like I have been waiting soooo lllonnngggg for! Malik and Anna's story was a powerful tale of grieve, friendship, second chances and the power of having someone love you for you... all of you... the good the bad and the ugly. I have read and adored the whole Jameson Force Security series  but this book.. this book... is the best of the series. Malik Fournier returns to Jameson Force after spending months in captivating having been kidnapped in Syria while the same mission that took Anna's husband's life. That is not a spoiler as it happened in the prior books in the series. I am not going share details about the what happened to him or how he processes it as experience this through the author's words is pure literacy genius. Loyal Sawyer Bennett fans will recognized the name Fournier as Malik it brother to heroes of her amazing Cold Fury series; the use of the Fournier was so well done truly adding to the story. Anna Tate is struggling with the loss of her husband as she finds her way as a single working mom.... I adored how Anna's character took on her new life and her desire to move forward pulled at my heart strings. Some might call this love story a slow burn.... I really don't think I would... the time it takes for friendship and desire to turn into "actions" and then for both characters to see the love staring back at them felt TRUE to the story and the place each was in their lives! The build up to Code Name: Rook was EPIC and I so excited for Cage to figure out his happy! And Shh.... I hope we see a spin-off into a new series for the Pittsburgh Titans

I would say that Code Name: Ghost is one of my most anticipated reads of the year. I've been wanting to know what happened with Malik Fournier for quite some time and Sawyer Bennett definitely delivered with this emotional, and hopeful, story.

Malik Fournier has recently returned to Jameson Force after having been kidnapped in Syria while on a rescue mission. He certainly wasn't sure if he was going to survive the ordeal, especially since he spent five long months in captivity. His Special Forces training helped while he was being held captive, but nothing could have prepared him for the guilt he was going to feel over the loss of two of his teammates the night he was abducted. Now that he's back home, he's trying to work through the emotional toll the ordeal took on him before he's able to return to active duty.

Anna Tate has been grieving and struggling herself. The same night that Malik was captured, Anna's husband, Jimmy was killed in the firefight. She was pregnant at the time and close to her due date, so not only was she grieving the loss of her husband, she gave birth and was learning to raise her infant daughter alone. Anna is resilient and in order to help herself, she went to work at Jameson Force as Kynan's administrative assistant.

When Malik returns, he and Anna have an immediate bond. Much of it comes from how much they both lost that night in Syria, but in a way, they are a light for each other because there was some good that came out of it when Malik returned home. The two work together on a project since Malik is on desk duty and they grow closer still. Are they going to be able to fight the attraction growing between them or are the demons and guilt that both of them still fight going to create issues?

There was so much to love about this book. Both Anna and Malik are incredibly strong. Not even physically, but mentally and emotionally. They both went through horrible ordeals and they worked through them with the help of a professional and they weren't afraid to talk about the hard times. I also enjoyed getting to see Malik's brothers again, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Anna's friendship with Cage! They have quite the bond as well and I can't wait to see what ends up happening with him. He's got himself into quite a pickle!

As I said to start, this is one I had really been looking forward to and without a doubt, Sawyer Bennett delivered exactly what I was hoping for Malik. So well done!

I have been looking forward to Malik's book and it was worth the anticipation!

The story opens with Malik's rescue, setting the tone by explaining the circumstances of his imprisonment and his subsequent relief at being rescued when he had all but resigned himself to dying there. Once he returns to North America, his focus shifts to regaining his strength and finding a way to rejoin his Jameson team as an active member.

Anna is a very independent woman, and she has been focused on making her own in life for the past five months after Jimmy's death and Avery's birth. Kynan offered her a position with Jameson which gives her an opportunity to keep Jimmy's spirit alive in some way. She has become invested in Malik's rescue and seeing him come back to Pittsburgh so they can all help him heal.

I have to say, this story had a much more mellow vibe than I anticipated. I expected high emotions as Anna deals with Malik's return when her husband didn't make it back, but she was very accepting and grateful to have him around. Malik felt guilty and responsible for Jimmy's death, but he was very matter of fact when dealing with it most of the time as well. They form a bond over a shared set of horrible circumstances, and I enjoyed the natural progression of their relationship.

Of course it all can't be sunshine and roses, and there are a few minor bumps in the road. Once things really heat up between them, Anna's feelings for Malik are very different than the love she had for her husband, so it is a bit of a struggle to deal with her confusion at that realization. Malik also has to deal with his survivor's guilt and worry about the bro code which essentially says thou shalt not get involved with your dead teammate's wife. Fortunately Kynan and team shrink Corinne are guiding forces for them- and oh this story just gave me so many more reasons to love Kynan! Fans of the Cold Fury series will be happy to see some familiar faces in Malik's brothers and sister, and there is an amusing side plot involving Cage (one of the Jameson team members) that I can't wait to find out more about in future books. All in all, Code Name Ghost made me smile and was a great read!

I was really looking forward to Malik's story, and the first few chapters were fantastic.
However, after that it kind of went downhill for me. There was no more excitement, twists or surprises.
I liked Anna in the previous Code Name books, but in this one I just found her lacking and slightly tedious.
I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favourite, or top 3, of the Code Name series.
