Code Name: Ghost (Jameson Force Security Book 5) Kindle Edition
Returning home to Pittsburgh following a mission gone wrong, I am riddled with guilt and haunted by nightmares. I spend my days trying to regain the parts of myself I lost in that desert, the pieces that made me the Malik Fournier I once was. While the physical effects of my torture are fading, the emotional ones are proving much more stubborn and I find solace from the last person I should ever seek such comfort.
Anna Tate lost even more than I did in that mission. Now a widow and a single mom to the daughter she gave birth to shortly after her husband’s death, Anna offers me comfort I don’t deserve. As my feelings for Anna grow, I worry that once she learns the truth about what happened, she’ll turn her back on me.
I pull her to me just as tightly as I push her away. Hoping this forbidden love will save me from the ghost I’ve become.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020I’ve read every book in this series but was definitely excited to read Malik’s story!
Book 5 in the Jameson Force Security Series finds us in Syria, as it’s been 5 months since Malik Fournier was captured during a rescue mission gone bad. Kynan McGrath (Head of JFS) has been diligently trying to track down Malik’s location since he was taken and finally, it happened. Tank, Merritt, Cage & a few of the other guys from Jameson brought him home. Malik spends a couple of weeks recovering at his parents house, but then decides it’s time to head back to work so he can start to move forward with his life.
Back in Pittsburgh (Jameson’s Headquarters), Anna is Kynan’s Admin. Assistant and helps him with a wide-array of tasks. Anna’s husband, Jimmy, was on the same hostage rescue team as Malik, but was unfortunately killed in action, along with fellow Jameson team member, Sal. She works for Jameson and takes care of her & Jimmy’s daughter, Avery, who was born not long after he was killed. It hasn’t been easy for Anna, working, having & taking care of Avery, but she does have her mother’s support, even if it’s not always wanted as she’s trying to retain her independence.
Malik sees Anna on the morning he arrives back at Jameson, and there’s a bit of a connection on both their parts. Malik sees Anna & the guilt is immediate as he blames himself for both Jimmy & Sal’s deaths from their joint mission. Anna sees Malik and just feels joy & relief that he’s been found & has returned. She believes they have a lot in common as over the past 5 months they’ve both gone through horrific, emotional trauma. She makes it her mission to let Malik know she’s there for him and available to talk if he ever has the need.
This story is all about watching Malik & Anna navigate a relationship, while they’re both still fighting with the losses they’ve both endured. It’s really quite a sweet read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
(The only issue I have with this book is that we never found out about what happened to Cage after he had to come clean with Jaime!! 🧐 Would have loved to hear how that conversation went!! 😂🤣)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2020I have been looking forward to Malik's book and it was worth the anticipation!
The story opens with Malik's rescue, setting the tone by explaining the circumstances of his imprisonment and his subsequent relief at being rescued when he had all but resigned himself to dying there. Once he returns to North America, his focus shifts to regaining his strength and finding a way to rejoin his Jameson team as an active member.
Anna is a very independent woman, and she has been focused on making her own in life for the past five months after Jimmy's death and Avery's birth. Kynan offered her a position with Jameson which gives her an opportunity to keep Jimmy's spirit alive in some way. She has become invested in Malik's rescue and seeing him come back to Pittsburgh so they can all help him heal.
I have to say, this story had a much more mellow vibe than I anticipated. I expected high emotions as Anna deals with Malik's return when her husband didn't make it back, but she was very accepting and grateful to have him around. Malik felt guilty and responsible for Jimmy's death, but he was very matter of fact when dealing with it most of the time as well. They form a bond over a shared set of horrible circumstances, and I enjoyed the natural progression of their relationship.
Of course it all can't be sunshine and roses, and there are a few minor bumps in the road. Once things really heat up between them, Anna's feelings for Malik are very different than the love she had for her husband, so it is a bit of a struggle to deal with her confusion at that realization. Malik also has to deal with his survivor's guilt and worry about the bro code which essentially says thou shalt not get involved with your dead teammate's wife. Fortunately Kynan and team shrink Corinne are guiding forces for them- and oh this story just gave me so many more reasons to love Kynan! Fans of the Cold Fury series will be happy to see some familiar faces in Malik's brothers and sister, and there is an amusing side plot involving Cage (one of the Jameson team members) that I can't wait to find out more about in future books. All in all, Code Name Ghost made me smile and was a great read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Code Name: Ghost
I was really looking forward to Malik's story, and the first few chapters were fantastic.
However, after that it kind of went downhill for me. There was no more excitement, twists or surprises.
I liked Anna in the previous Code Name books, but in this one I just found her lacking and slightly tedious.
I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favourite, or top 3, of the Code Name series.
