Tempting (Reckless Love Book 2) Kindle Edition
After living a life at the top of the NFL, being taken out before my time, with a stupid injury, is a hard pill to swallow. And I’m willing to do anything in my power to get back in.
Only when I attend the wedding of my good friend and ex-teammate, I come face to face with the man I’ve been secretly pining after all these years. The only problem? Liam’s my friend’s ex, and after being a dirty little secret for too long, he’s sworn himself off football players.
No matter how hard I try, I can’t get him out of my head, so I propose the dumbest of all dumb ideas: a baby bi bucket list.
The more he helps me work through it, the more time we spend together, and the more I try to win him over. He’s hell bent against another football player, but I’m retired now. I can feel him slipping, and if he does, I’m faced with an impossible choice.
Ask him to be another secret.
Or tell my friend I’ve shacked up with his ex.
And while I thought violating brocode was going to be my biggest problem, I didn’t expect to get the call.
Another shot at the big time. A second chance at the NFL.
Everything I’d been hoping for. Except Liam.
Because if I take it, I’ll lose any chance of having him for good.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2024Just as the title says—I will never skip a Saxon James book. It doesn’t matter what literary universe she’s in, she comes up with these lovely romances, and I’m invested in each couple. This one is such a sweet read, and I’m glad they got their happy ending together.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2020This is a sweet and very well written romance, no question. And I really enjoyed reading Zane's and Liam's story. I've honestly been waiting for Zane's book since he was first introduced in Bet On Me, and it was great finally getting that happily ever after.
There's so much to like about this book. The characters are great, instantly likable. The dynamics between Zane and Liam is awesome. And their growing friendship that evolves alongside their increasing attraction feels entirely real. It's simply a delightful read.
That being said, I'm still a bit on the fence about Calling Your Bluff.
It was totally sweet. Zane's hilarious and I adore books that can combine humor with emotion. But I also felt that the story was missing something.
It took me a while to figure out what it was, but now I know. I was missing a plot.
Sure, it's a lovestory. The back and forth between Zane and Liam is the main attraction, as it should be, but there was no real drama anywhere. No bad guy lurking in the shadows, no bigotry threatening to destroy Zane's and Liam's chance at happiness. It was all so very normal. Two guys, falling for each other while fighting to overcome their own insecurities and doubts. So, basic relationship stuff. That's not a bad thing in itself, but it makes Calling Your Bluff pretty different from Bet On Me which was super intense in parts.
The lower pace in turn enabled me to notice some inconsistencies. I couldn't piece together the time-frame. At first, Liam broke up with Taryn only a year earlier. They were together for years and living together. But later in the book, Liam has a shed in his yard where he's collected stuff for so many years he's forgotten what's in there. Then there's his apartment. It is an apartment, but at one point he refers to it as a house.
In conclusion, it wasn't a perfect fit for me. I loved some parts of it, but it wasn't quite enough to hold my interest completely. The lack of some serious dramatics made the overall impression too sweet for my tastes. The shagging was super hot though.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2020Written in dual first person POV. Can be read as a standalone but book 1 will be spoiled if you read book 2 first and plan on reading book 1. Decent amount of M/M sexy times but there could have been more. I truly enjoyed Zane’s character and he provided a lot of humor. Liam was present in book 1 but he wasn’t very fleshed out (the reader didn’t hate him but there weren’t many details). In this book, Liam actually annoyed me in the beginning and I enjoyed it when others pointed out how he sabotaged dates/relationships/life with unrealistic expectations. There wasn’t a lot of drama or angst so this was an easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2022This intriguing follow up to the first book of this series is just the icing on the cake. Totally worth the read, with delightful characters that charm and entertain on every page!

I didn’t read the first book because the blurb for this one interested me more, and I didn’t feel like I missed much. Here we have Liam, who is still carrying the hurt being forced into the closet for six years by his ex, a football player. The story starts a year after their breakup, where Liam is attending the wedding of his ex; the ex that wouldn’t come out for Liam or acknowledge him in public is now marrying a man. Ouch. I really felt for Liam in the first few chapters, because while he’s not still pining, he’s sad at where his life ended up. Enter Cooper Zane, retired football player and best friend of Liam’s ex. Cooper is newly out as bisexual, though he’s never been with a man. A detail he hopes to rectify with Liam. See, all those times Liam was being ignored by his ex? Cooper Zane was paying attention to him. Zane has had an enormous crush on Liam for years, and now he’s finally got a shot.
Liam, while sympathetic, got a bit repetitive in his inability to accept that Zane wasn’t his ex, but Zane was a delightful character. The story is low angst, great UST and a lot of fun. Zane reminded me of Eden Finley’s Taron, so I’m looking forward to their collaboration.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2020if you want to laugh. Zane and Liam are funny and hot together. Low angst, lots of laughs, and exactly what I needed. I liked that the story focused more on Liam being nervous about the relationship because- football than it did on Zane questioning his sexuality. I liked that Zane totally owned being attracted to a guy.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2022Loved the dynamic between Liam and Cooper, laughed and giggled throughout this story. Great writing, their story did not disappoint.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2023Zane has been crushing on Liam for years. Liam is never going to dare a football player again. Being a baby bi has its advantages, Zane can get Liam to do his bucket list with him, spend time with him and show Liam that he’s for real. Liam finally realizes that Zane puts him first and he can have the best of both worlds. Sweet guys with the best banter and some adorable nicknames.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liam & Cooper. Hammer!

5.0 out of 5 stars sickeningly sweet & I’m here for it!
I loved this book. I loved Zane so much…I want my own Zane. There was not much depth to this story but the chemistry and sweetness of it collided with what my heart needed so it gets 5 🌟

5.0 out of 5 stars One of 2 best books I have read this year 2020
Well, this was an unexpected surprise. I was bored out of my mind, searching through Kindle for something to read that could alleviate my spirit. I borrowed this. And it turned out to be a great decision because it is an incredibly funny story. The meeting on a ship at a wedding, close to the beginning, is written so tenderly and beautifully, that it captured my heart and made me feel tender. From there, I needed more, and the writer delivered. The story is structured in a way that is plausible and true.
A huge thank you to Saxon James. In these difficult times, a gift like your talent is sorely needed.
UPDATE: I bought it today! June 27 2020. I know I will want to re-read this again & again!
UPDATE APRIL 10 2021: this is my fifth time re-reading this one! 💋💋 Thank you Saxon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read - Cooper was definitely my fave
This book was an interesting read, primarily because it showed a very different side to both Taryn and Liam whom we met in book 1. I loved Cooper - he definitely had his head screwed on straight, and pointed out the flaws in Liam's attitude toward a lot of things (like his previous relationship with Taryn, and his new dates). For a while there I actually found myself disliking Liam because of that attitude. Taryn was a little harder to tarnish given we know him from book 1, but we definitely see him from Liam's POV, and how badly he treated Liam while trying to hide his relationship with him while still taking him to football events.
That aside, the growing relationship between Cooper and Liam was sweet. I loved how Cooper showed Liam what a good date could be like, and how he didn't take advantage of Liam at any point. He showed Liam time and time again that he would put him first, which Liam finally clicked to in the last few pages.
I hope there's more in the series, but I don't know what characters they might follow given there was no lead in at the end of this book, and no other characters who were an obvious choice to have their own book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing love story
This live story has a the gooey love you can think of! Cooper Zane is my new gay book boyfriend. He is hands down the sweetest man you will ever meet. I couldn’t get enough of Liam and Cooper. This book is funny and sweet and has the best happy ending. I hope to read more about these men in future books!
