Review

"Guides are necessary throughout mid-life, this book is a guide. Mid-life will not be rushed. Everybody experiences mid-life. It is a sacred journey, a sacred path, the Way. I know Cassandra. I trust her, respect her, and understand that her book is invaluable. I urge you to utilise this book as an inspirational tool and carry it as a treasure. Persevere with your mid-life, bring into consciousness your childhood dreams, as they will become your living realities."
~ Max Gimblett, Visual Artist

"Too few of us have been brought up to believe that it is possible to make our living doing something we love, that lights our hearts up and stirs our passions. This I call the work we were born to do. To find your true work is a great blessing, one of life's greatest blessings I believe. And to be paid for your work rather than work for pay is one of life's great joys. In this book, Cassandra helps you find your work, inspiring you to consider new possibilities, gently guiding you beyond limiting thinking, and helping you find your own true self and authentic work."
~ Nick Williams, Author of The Work We Were Born To Do

Cassandra Gaisford has written an excellent book for those of us who hate their job, have had enough of the long hours, have been made redundant, or just want a new career. She uses examples of many who have become successful in later years.

She uses excellent examples as well as exercises to guide you in the process of figuring out your new career. She has exercises that will help you decide what you want to do, exercises that will help you identify your talents, exercises that will help you with every aspect of career change. You are never too old to make a change and everyone has talents whether they know it or not. We all have experiences and interests that can lead to a rewarding career.

She guides you through the process with action questions, step by step procedures on what to do to prepare for the change, and many quotes from people who have studied later life career changes and those who have made those changes. She gives you great examples of ways to motivate yourself to learn all you an about what it is you might want to do.

This is a book I needed. I have had enough of the long hours in a job that will take me nowhere. I am ready to move on and move up. I recommend it to anyone who is dissatisfied with their current career or job, or whose job has lost them, or anyone who just wants something different. Get this book today and get the life you want before it is too late.

If you are stuck in a mid-life rut then this is the go-to book for you. The author knows whats shes writing about because shes not only talking the talk, she is walking the walk. Mid life can be a minefield of changes, emotions and challenges. Mid-Life Career Rescue is not just about job change it is a valuable reference book for midlife. The times you get confused or overwhelmed at which road to take, pick up this book and Cassandras skillful work will guide your way. Practical, intuitive, easy to use exercises provide clarity and encourage conscious thinking about your choices. At a point where I desired positive change in my life it helped me build confidence, strengthened awareness of my skills, and taught me how to think bigger in order to have more of what I wanted. After reading this book and applying the practical strategies, I stopped digging my toes in and began to see myself and my business in a more positive and expanded light. As a midlifer in self employment I can highly recommend to anyone that is no longer willing to 'settle' and ready for change no matter what transitional stage you're at.

Cassandra Gaisford's book, Mid-Life Career Rescue, puts passion first, exactly where it should be! She gently nudges us out of complacency by reminding us our career doesn't have to be life-draining if we are willing to take time figuring out what we want and the skills we have to actually do it. And then brilliantly she provides all the action steps we need to make a move by asking simple, yet powerful questions to help us find the answers already there inside of ourselves.

I definitely recommend reading the chapter on stress in her book. I wish I had the valuable information she laid out 15 years ago when I went through a 'brown out'," one step before complete 'burn out.' If I knew what physical signs to look for I would have left that job way earlier than I did. Unfortunately for me I learned the hard way what a stressful job situation can do to you both mentally and physically, but you don't have to. Instead, you just need to read Mid-life Rescue, and follow the advice of Ms. Gaisford.

Sometimes we are too busy with tasks at work that we got trapped in unless works. The book teaches us to step back and re-assess our feelings and skills. The book advice technically shows "meta-cognition" in action at the workspace.

There are many useful assessment tests and tools mentioned in the book. One of my favorites is use gratitude to counter the negative thinking and shift the energy around. I found the chapter about creativity (clone yourself and create combo career) eye-opening as well. The majority of the book leverages visualization to overcome the challenges. Different from other visualization technique book I read, the author has successfully layout step by step to visualize a future/career.

The book title said it's for mid-lifer, but only a handful of chapter dives deeps into mid-lifers. Anyone who is unhappy with their career, at a different age, would be benefit from reading this book.

This book shared some interesting experiences that sparked a mildly inspiring "me too" response, but there were relatively few corresponding insights and treatment of the subject matter primarily basic and anecdotal. I also felt that significant effort was given to attempting to convince the reader of the author's credibility, which detracted from the book's impact. If available, I would give 3.7 stars. :-)

I am researching expanding my career options to have more flexibility in my schedule and work from anywhere. Mid-life Career Rescue has been a great resource for me at this time of exploration and research. The exercises helped to bring clarity to where I am in life and what I need to do to reach my goal. I found value in all the antidotal information, helping me to see that I am not the only person in later mid-life to value time, relationships and the need to use my years of experience to focus on continued personal growth through helping others. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking to expand their career options.

Author Cassandra Gaisford wants people to realise that whatever age you are or circumstances you’re in, achieving a “Mid-Life Career Rescue” is absolutely possible. She talks about how you can use your age as an advantage, enabling you to increase your confidence and belief in yourself and prepare you for positive change.

Whether you’re in a job you can’t stand, you’ve been made redundant or you feel you have no choice but to stay in a job you don’t like, Cassandra gives simple strategies to discover what you want to do, make it a reality and find the job you love.

She gives some fantastic tips for working out what you do and don’t want to indicate the types of jobs that would give you more satisfaction. Also helpful ways to change the way you feel about the job you’re currently in by shifting from negative self-talk to positive and seeing obstacles as learning experiences.

Cassandra gets you to question how you think and feel about things and gives you action tasks, techniques and quizzes to gain more clarity. What really resonates with me and I also believe is extremely important, is how she encourages meditation and passion journaling throughout the process and believes that by training your mind, shaping your attitude and actively participating in life creates happiness, in addition to doing what you're passionate about.

A fabulous tool for anyone thinking about changing careers or just wanting to be happier in the job you’re in, why you work on building something that you’re truly passionate about.
