Cat's Paw (Crazy Cat Lady Mystery Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

“Starting Cat's Paw is a lot like a kitten tapping a colorful ball of yarn—soon a claw is caught and there's no letting go until the whole thing is unwound…” —Ann Littlewood, author of the Zoo Mystery series
Two suspicious deaths at an elite island art retreat send Lynley running back to Portland, but murder follows in her wake.
Lynley Cannon is in trouble again, starting when the sixty-something cat shelter volunteer is invited to an exclusive art retreat by her college colleague, Simon Bird. The retreat, located at the Cloverleaf Animal Sanctuary on its very own island in the San Juans, is a dream come true for Lynley. The peaceful setting; the precious animals; time spent with Simon: What could possibly go wrong?
Things turn from tranquil to terrifying in the form of a shocking double homicide. Lynley, the prime suspect due only to circumstantial evidence, persuades her accusers of her innocence.
When there is a third killing closer to home, a link with Simon becomes clear. Is her dear friend the target of a heinous plot or the killer himself? Lynley fights through fear, assault, and her own anxiety disorder to survive. For Lynley, it all comes down to cats.

Review

...A warm and charming cozy mystery, Cat's Paw is a modern day Murder, She Wrote with suspense, humor, heart, and many cats. The eerie isolation of the island is balanced by Lynley's home of Portland, where she has friends and family to lean on. Mollie Hunt introduces a sinister and unknown killer into Lynley's home, bringing the fear of isolation into the safety of home. A twist at the end reveals a surprising killer. The mystery is grounded in reality as Lynley's daily life is interrupted by fear when she becomes a target. The characters are down to earth, realistic and honest, reading like real people, neighbors and friends. Lynley is sincere and spunky, with a total adoration of cats, making her easy to relate to and a fun heroine to sleuth with. A must-read for all mystery lovers! ~Liz Konkel for Readers' Favorite

Cat Writer Mollie Hunt is the award-winning author of two cozy series: the Crazy Cat Lady Mysteries featuring a sixty-something cat shelter volunteer who finds more trouble than a cat in catnip, and the Tenth Life Paranormal Mysteries involving a ghost cat. Her Cat Seasons Sci-Fantasy Tetralogy presents extraordinary cats saving the world. She recently released a COVID memoir which she calls, "a tale of a plague and politics, of depression and inspiration, and an ode to the very real and healing presence of cats." In her spare time, she pens a bit of cat poetry as well.

Mollie is a member of the Oregon Writers’ Colony, Sisters in Crime, the Cat Writers’ Association, Willamette Writers, and Northwest Independent Writers Association (NIWA). She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and a varying number of cats. Like her cat lady character, she is a grateful shelter volunteer.

Praise for Mollie Hunt, Cat Writer:

“I know Mollie as a true, dyed-in-the-wool cat person, as a cat guardian and a foster parent and, most importantly, as a human being. One thing I can spot a mile away is true passion... and Mollie Hunt has it. People like Mollie are rare in this world because they infuse their own curiosity… with true empathy... the recipe for not only a quality person, but, in the end, a great artist as well.”

Terrific but not spectacular. A visit to another animal sanctuary leads to murders. Who is killing all his closest friends and why?. A good plot that ends with the person you least expect being the culprit. The lead character annoys me and that is why this has got a 4* and not a 5. Don't know why she doesn't click with me.

I really enjoy the Crazy Cat Lady Mystery Series. The who-dun-it genre has long been a favorite of mine, and with the addition of cats in the mix, these are a must read on my list. Cat's Paw is yet another great book in the series by Mollie Hunt. Cat's Paw may be my second favorite now just behind Copy Cats...but, it's hard to say which of the 4 books (so far) is truly the best. I enjoy them all. The lead in the books, Lynley Cannon, has become like a friend and the stories are a pleasant read full of mystery, suspense and colorful characters (including the cats!). Mollie's writing style flows in an easy manor that carries one along the way. I look forward to the next addition to this series.

I love to read mysteries, it’s one of my favorite genres to read. Another thing I love—cats; so Mollie Hunt’s Crazy Cat Lady Cozy Mystery series is a perfect read. In “Cat’s Paw,” the third book in the series, Lynley Cannon is off to an artist retreat at an animal sanctuary and becomes a murder suspect in a double homicide. How does that happen to a sweet, smart, compassionate shelter volunteer? Let me tell you, just because the series is a cozy mystery—a mystery without the gore—there are plenty of twists and turns that keep you turning the page to discover who dunnit. I kept guessing to the very end. A fun read, well researched, and a lovable character with an authentic cat lady voice.

Very well written and a fun read.

It is definitely a cat book but I found it not very realistic, for one thing you can't have six cats in your house and never have to vacuum. The only cleaning that was mentioned was the litter boxes. The mystery was drawn out and somewhat convoluted. Otherwise it was ok.

Great cat crime stories. Mollie Hunt is a true cat lover who knows and understands cats perfectly well, she writes about them beautifully. Her stories are captivating and beautifully written, there is suspense but also humour. I discovered Mollie Hunt's books only recently and I am so glad I did! I read a lot of cat crime novels and I can say Mollie Hunt is one of the best authors. I recommend highly.
