WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS
Fiction has the power to change lives.
Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.
But there are messages within the messages.
There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.
Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.
This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.
THE LOWDOWN
Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.
In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.
In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2015C. G. Cooper hits the nail on the head with the story of 'knuckle-dragging, ground-pounding grunts'. A statement at the US Marine Corps Ball turns into a threat which basically says that next year there will be no USMC. This is an action filled story that concerns the defunding of the US Marine Corps. This is definitely not an OORAH moment. Cal Stokes and his team are called in to assist when a high ranking military member is found dead in Florida. And, boy of boy, does the plot ever thicken after their trip.
I like the fact that the wife of a high ranking official is so down to earth. She is the consummate wife of an officer and a gentleman. She understands the wisdom of getting to know the younger enlisted members which is a real attribute. This is a novel which emphasizes team work of all the forces in a triumph of good over evil. The DC budget squabbles are representative of the messes going on today.
Books like this are hard to find. The military is made up of hard working members and they are used to putting in long hours to accomplish the mission at hand. This aspect is one that is overlooked numerous times in other books. I appreciate the fact that this author recognizes the hard work and devotion of our troops.
An outstanding novel with a solid plot and memorable characters. Toss in a little bit of romance for that added spark!
Most highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2015Mr. Cooper has the ability to entertain you, convey the stress our military faces & their love and commitment to each other and the Armed Services and thrill you all in one. I must say I was introduced to him when Amazon offered his first book free and I have been hooked every since. He also has the ability to keep you liking the characters and the stories don't seem stale or redundant which other authors do when writing a series. Each books has me hoping that none of the characters die because you love them a little more each time. These books keep getting better and will have you anxiously waiting for the next one. Keep up the great work Mr. Cooper, here's hoping that Congressman Matador will get his in the next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2015That's the upshot of the plot to CHAIN OF COMMAND: A Marine Corps Adventure (Corps Justice Series Book 9). And author C.G. Cooper delivers yet another sterling piece of writing involving Cal Stokes and the crew at The Jefferson Group.
As a complicated, twisted, and deadly plot to disband the Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.., the military and, of course, The Jefferson Group are quickly embroiled in a puzzling suicide that leads them to the devious plot to defund The Corps. Along the way the tension builds as lives are lost, political intrigue heightens, and virtually everyone is puzzled as to how all these events are connected.
But with his usual deft aplomb, author Cooper guides the reader through the twists and turns, the highlights and lowlifes, and shows us all - once again - the true cost of freedom, and just how far we've wandered from realizing it.
An outstanding read in every sense of the word. Leaving enough dangling so that I'm eagerly awaiting Book 10.
It promises to be even better!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2015Another good one by Cooper.
This one starts with a Marine general commiting suicide while on vacation at Disney World in Florida. Why he committed suicide no one knows.
Cal and Briggs are tasked with heading to Florida and finding out if it was a suicide and if not finding out what really happened and why.
On arrival they meet Barrett with NCIS. Barrett isn't keen on Cal and Daniel interferring with what he sees as a suicide. Of course that changes when Briggs starts looking around and finds a sniper hide. A sniper who appears to have been there to make sure the General killed himself. A sniper who was there to make sure the man was dead. Why??
So begins one damned fine read.
This one has Cal, his TJG men, his bodyguard and best friend Briggs, President Zimmer, Congressman Joe Steiner, Congressman McNight who's way more than he seems, Admiral Gower, General Mason, the deaths of over four hundred marines around the world, an attempt on Cal's life, his girlfriend who is no dummy and knows Cal is involved in national security, a dead general who leaves clues and the info Cal needs, his wife Cassie who's one tough marine wife, a showdown and Cal and his boys on a roller coaster of a ride.
Five Stars and then some.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020I really didn't think I would like this story line initially but Cooper makes it work really well! He gives you a lot of villains (I can't wait for Tony McKnight to get his) and throws in some tragedy to make it more realistic. I'll never understand why some of these books are nonchalant about the bad guys and securing them once their caught. This causes a huge problem at the end and I'm not sure what Cooper was thinking writing it that way. All and all a really good book that you'll enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful writing
A plot to disband the Marines - permanently. But like so many plans information leaked out and Cal and his men were sent out to investigate. In the process of the investigation many marines were slaughtered, but finally the final clue was found and the perpetrators either despatched or imprisoned - well, all except one. Great story. Well worth reading. Up to the standard of other books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to catch the next one!
I love this series. It's been awhile since I read one, but so glad I still have new books to read.
In my opinion this one starts out by giving a lot more background info than normal. It was different in that respect but once Cal and the group were brought in fully things got moving. I loved that they brought back the girl Cal was dating too. I was wondering how things were going in that area.
I did catch that the author named a character it name and had a bit of a giggle about it.
Can't wait to catch the next one!
