About the authors
Summer Hanford writes gripping Epic Fantasy, swashbuckling Historical Romance, and best-selling Pride and Prejudice retellings. She lives in the Finger Lakes Region of New York with her husband and compulsory, deliberately spoiled, cat. The newest addition to their household, an energetic setter-shepherd mix, has been trying, and failing, for six years to gain acceptance from the cat, but is adored by the humans.
Since the moment she read her first novel, Summer’s passion has always been writing. As a child growing up on a dairy farm, she built castles made of hay and wielded swords made of fence posts. She is also passionate about animals, travel, and organizing her closet. Nothing pleases her more than a row of tops broken down by sleeve length and ordered by color…except working on her latest novel with her cat in her lap, her dog lounging on the rug dreaming of squirrels, and a cup of tea at hand.
Renata McMann is the pen name of someone who likes to rewrite public domain works. She is fond of thinking "What if?"

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe story covers the development of MANY of our dear characters. I was surprised woth Caroline's and Lydia's story lines.
As I don't want to give much away, I will say the characters either have unknown, content or better endings.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMuch of this story revolves around the actions of Caroline Bingley and her downfall and subsequent happy ever after.
Elizabeth is in London helping both Darcy's charity ( training young girls to dress hair for the wealthy Ton.) And then assisting Lady Catherine in setting up a charity to train young girls to be cooks in the less wealthy homes. She's living with Charles and Jane Bingley and still a target for the Bingley women! Additionally Lady Catherine is attempting to keep Anne from marrying the youngest son of Lord Matlock because Lord DeBourge didn't approve of cousins marrying and reproducing. Caroline attempted to compromise Darcy and is forced to live with Charles, even though Lydia and Elizabeth are there. Caroline escaped, found cheap housing with Mrs Younge and begins a life without the society she was craving. It's interesting to see Caroline adapting to living poorly and saving every shilling.
I enjoyed this because it shows a side of everyone that is rarely written and A side of how life is for those who work for the wealthy. Imagine being allowed to send and receive one letter a month? Its a story worth reading!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOverall a well written and engaging story. It seemed to shift focus part way through, and I really didn’t know where it was going, which is good, I like surprises. Darcy and Elizabeth’s internal thoughts were sometimes repetitious, but they finally come to the point. There were interesting new characters, and an unexpected but satisfying turn for Miss Bingley. Worth your time.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCharitable Endeavors may very well be my favorite read from the writing team of Renata McMann and Summer Hanford. When Fitzwilliam Darcy finds Elizabeth Bennet and her sister Jane in London, he knows he must make amends, helping Bingley to win Miss Bennet's love once again. But when Elizabeth comes to London a few months later with the Bingleys, Darcy wants to prove to Elizabeth that he is a better man and worthy of a second chance with her.
There was just so much to love about this book, so I will just get to it. First, the plot is so well planned and executed, telling the story from several points of view, keeping us well entertained. Next, the authors took us on a journey through the poor streets of London, bringing empathy to those living there. And last, but far from the least, we're the characterizations of the wonderful, favorite characters and the deplorable ones, as well. While Darcy and Elizabeth were charming as they fall in love, it was Lady Catherine and Miss Bingley who stole the show. I loved their portrayals!
I highly recommend this book for all readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere are so many P&P variations out now that finding a story with an interesting twist & a variation I’ve not read before is a treat. This isn’t a complicated story or plot, it’s a m enjoyable and entertaining read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOther comments have already summarized the story, so I will simply state my own impressions. This was a pleasant read but not one I'd read again. There are 4 mostly disjointed plot lines that are loosely connected by the characters involved but are more independent than interdependent. Only one of those plot lines has to do with ODC, and that one pretty much takes a backseat to the others for much of the book. Significant behavioral changes occur for at least 4 of the women (not EB), which drastically alters their future paths in life. Not a bad plan, but any of those individually could have been elaborated on to make their own book rather than stitched together as I felt was done here. Ironically the book is meant to be about charitable endeavors which it is in some respects yet ends with a distinct lack of charity on the parts of the person who committed a grievous wrong never having apologized and the part of the person wronged never having forgiven them.
Having read many of the works of these 2 talented authors, I would say both are professional and capable writers. I've noticed that sometimes though, the collaboration seems forced in that the 2 writing styles do not mesh seamlessly, resulting in what feels like a stitched together story like this one. Some authors pen stories that have a lot going on, but the plots are woven together in a way that moves the overall story along. It didn't feel that way here. They are separate threads, 2 of the 4 could have been cut out entirely and would not have affected the other 2 at all.
Pleasant read with a few nice scenes for an entertaining afternoon, but it's not their best. I would prefer quality (which I'd actually buy) over quantity as they seem to put out a lot of titles each year.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Earl of Matlock is in a panick . Who in the next generation will provide an heir to the Earldom? It's not to his eldest son nor his youngest. That leaves his second, Richard, still reeling from the loss of his wife and son, or perhaps his nephew, Darcy. If not these men he supposes, he'll have to move on to his two neices, Anne or Georgiana. Darcy's been refused by Miss Elizabeth Bennet , Richard has encountered a young woman . He finally wishes to marry only to loose track of her. Stalling for time, Richard asks Darcy to pretend to search for a wife, while at the same time, Darcy is trying to win back Elizabeth. Tensions abound due to the treachery of Miss Bingley and her sister, Mrs. Hurst. Hang on tight. This is going to be a wild ride. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always a pleasure
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJAFF by Renata and Summer is always a pleasure to read. I like the benevolence to the persons, the structure of the novel, that even if you foresee a turn it is funny and good suspense to read. I'm looking forward to 22nd January 24 for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA well written novel with a most interesting twist. The relationship between our dear couple is a very slow burn but other couples have significant roles with most interesting and unexpected pairings. The context of the “Charitable Endeavours” I found an intrinsically interesting insight into the social expectations of the poverty stricken of the era.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAnother brilliant book by Renata & Summer.
Lady Catherine, who is remarkably sane, sensible and kind (who knew such a thing was possible), plays a pivotal role, in this variation. We meet a spoiled Anne DeBourgh, a 3rd Fitzwilliam brother obsessed with horses, and a scheming duplicitous Miss Bingley (at least somethings never change). Plus our dear couple going through their trials and tribulations, I highly recommend this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars long but ok
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA bit long and some of the characterisations a bit severe but engaging enough. Give it a try , worth a shot

4.0 out of 5 stars Caroline, Lydia and Anne de Bourgh steal the 'vedette'
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA very nice story telling that kept me glued to the book despite what I considered to be too much page alloted to Caroline Bingley, Lydia Bennet and Anne de Bourgh.
While Darcy and Elizabeth meet and reconnect after Hunsford and develop, over almost one year and half, their own relationship, we are shown and told more about those above mentionned than I would care, making Darcy and Elizabeth almost an afterthought.
Several surprises about these ladies, but obviously the best and pleasant surprise is Lady Catherine.
Very agreeable book, sadly devoided of the main reason for me to read a Pride and Prejudice variation: the story of Darcy and Elizabeth.
3.5 * rounded to 4
Because really good story telling.
