Charlie Sunshine (Close Proximity Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,085 ratings

Sometimes love is a lot closer to home than you think.

Charlie Burroughs can’t keep a man. All he wants is a good relationship like the ones he sees his friends having, but none of the men he picks ever work out. Despite him trying to be the perfect boyfriend, the men are either threatened by his looks or his epilepsy or a combination of the two. It’s lucky that he has his best friend Misha to turn to. The two of them are closer than peas in a pod and fiercely loyal to each other. He can’t imagine his life without Misha in it.

Misha Lebedinsky is the complete opposite of his best friend. Being the support system for his mum and twin sisters leaves Misha with neither the time nor the inclination for a relationship. Quick and frequent hook-ups are his favourite means of communication and any other pesky emotional needs he has are met by Charlie, who he’s devoted to. He lives a life of happy compartmentalization with no intention of ever changing.

All of this changes when the two best friends move in together. Being in close proximity means that they suddenly start to see each other in a very different light. But Charlie struggles when his drive to be the perfect partner clashes with the fact that he’s in love with a man who knows every little thing about him. And even if he can get past that, can a relationship ever work with a man who’d need a dictionary to tell him what love means?

From bestselling author Lily Morton comes a love story about a sunny librarian who has relationship written all over him and a cynical banker who doesn’t even have it in his blurb.

The story about Charlie and Misha is very sweet and it's funny. A few characters are a bit over the top, the perfect men are a bit too perfect and I thought the epilepsy would play a bit bigger part than it did.

But it's got lovely side characters that match well with the main ones and while it didn't reach quite up there for me, it was still nice to read.

Fierce...that's how I describe this delicious romance. The MC's are gloriously complicated. Charlie is vivacious and funny. Misha is laid back and seemingly set in his lusty ways. Both are sexy as hell. 😏Best friends who are living in close proximity when they realise something has changed between them. It's a tantalising journey watching these two dance around each other. It takes a lot of meddling from those around them for them to see what's right in front of their faces. So much fun I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend falling into this well constructed world of life and love! 😘

I love Charlie Sunshine, both the book and the character. I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by this author.
Watching Charlie and Misha move into a more intimate relationship is sexy, sweet, funny, and touching. Their banter and snark are hilarious, and I had many laughs while reading this.
There is plenty of humor, but there is also pain and heartache for Charlie as he struggles with epilepsy. The author gives Charlie experiences that erode his self-assurance, but she also offers Charlie hope for a better future, health-wise, and heart-wise.
Misha is a sweetheart, and watching him care for and about Charlie was precious.
I found their situation and relationship believable and exciting. I quickly became invested in these two men and got all the feels from this beautiful book.
The sexy times are very well done and their connection is palpable. I am satisfied with their HEA, and I was sad when the book ended.
I look forward to more by this author.

Charlie Sunshine is still one of my favorite books. I can't remember if I said this in my last review of this wonderful story, but, I have never seen a book cover model who is the perfect description of Charlie Sunshine. I see everything "Charlie" in that photo. I love looking at him and "seeing" sweet Charlie.
Charlie and Misha couldn't be more perfect for one another. Being friends first is the best foundation for a lasting relationship. It took them quite a while to realize exactly what they meant to each other because, as the old adage points out they "couldn't see the forest for the trees". 😎😉
Lovely, lovely heartwarming story. It always brings a smile to my face and leaves me with a happy heart. 😍😘

    Sweert Sunshine!
Charlie is such a doll, how could anyone not love him???
This was a sweet friends to lovers romance. Charlie and Misha have been friends forever, but both were pretty oblivious when it came to their feelings for each other. But once Charlie moves in with Misha, those long suppresed feelings finally start showing themselves.
I liked that there wasn't a lot of drama with these two. Yes, Charlie had a little bit of a freak out, but it was understandable, considering how he'd been treated in the past by boyfriends. Although how he thought Misha would act that way was a little silly of him. But hey, you're gonna feel how you're gonna feel!

Joel was Joel, another great job.

Can't wait for Felix and Max's story!

Charlie Sunshine is the second book in the Close Proximity series. It can be read as a standalone, but I personally believe the best enjoyment comes from reading this series in order. This is a slow burn, best friends to lovers romance that had a nice balance between fluff and angst. I’m a big fan of sweet romance mixed with fluff and humor, so this book was right up my alley. Charlie is a character that’s easy to adore. He’s a sweet man who has his own flaws, and that’s what really resonated with me.

The audiobook was narrated by Joel Leslie who does an amazing job. I loved how he voiced each character and brought the story to life. The audiobook production was also well done.

All books I read from beginning to end get an automatic three stars but I really struggled to finish this one. I found it boring and repetitious. If it had been anyone but Lily Morton I would have stopped and not finished but I kept waiting for her usual snark, charm and sweetness to kick in.

Two best friends who everyone in the world thinks would be great lovers finally fall in love. But it just seemed overwritten and over wrought to me. Here's a paragraph I noted:

Max laughs. It's a warm and infectious sound that fist the tall wide-shouldered man. He has a crazy air of effervescence about him. A naughtiness that's infectious and makes everyone smile back at him. Everyone apart from Felix who just shoots him an enigmatic glance.

Yeah, like that. And the word naughty or naughtiness was so overused in this book!

So while I do enjoy Lily Morton, this one did not work for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best, Best friends to Lovers story ever!
Reviewed in India on December 6, 2020
Most books with this theme, always end with the friends just ending as lovers and that's that. But Charlie Sunshine gives us the experience of seeing them go on dates and enjoy the relationship. It was quite novel. And a real pleasure.
LILY also does not waste time in making them fall in love and seeing it with new eyes. There are a few paras that do that obviously but since the beginning we are kind of aware of the tenderness between Misha and Charlie.
There was so much sweetness, understanding and humor in this book, its soothing to read and in the end It really feels like we enjoyed our time in the warm sun during the freezing winter.

So friends to lovers is a popular theme and let’s face it, there’s not going too much of a surprise at the end. So why read it ? Well this is a Lily Morton book....Sorry you need more than that. Oh, really, I’m surprised, that should be enough.
Okay well theres the characters she writes. Rounded, bold and beautiful. People that are human, flawed, who make you fall in love with them and root for their happy ever after. The wonderful supporting cast who you wish could be part of your family.
Then there’s the journey. It’s not always where you’re going, it’s how you get there. This one you read slowly, treasuring the
the joy along the way. You laugh with the friends at Misha’s child like ignorance at what all can see and you feel sorrow for Charlie’s fears and despairs that he hides so well behind his sunshine. It is sweet and funny and snarky and every glorious thing you want in a romance.
This is a book that you start with a smile that doesn’t leave your ( except for brief moments) until the end when you turn the last metaphorical page with a happy sigh.
Perfect. Buy it unless, like Misha, you can’t see what’s right before your eyes.
