I loved reading about Mark and Carrie. I am reading these series out of order. I started with Drew and Lindsay, then I read about Mark and Carrie. I will probably read Chase and Apple's story next. I would love to read more about Amy. Amy is Carrie's best friend. She gets kidnapped. But she is not the only one kidnapped. Lots of 20 year old girls with dark long hair are being kidnapped. Then they are found, dead with their arms missing. Mark is a a cop, but he is also an undercover DEA agent. He has been investigation this illegal drug operation for more than 3 years. And he thinks the kidnappings are connected, but he missing important information.3 years ago, Carrie's father was framed as a drug dealer/smuggler and put in prison. Mark and Carrie were dating then, and Mark had to arrest him. Carrie was angry and hurt and moved away to be closer to her father in prison.s9 now she is coming home for a job at the university and her new boss, is her old professor who is now the Dean. She thinks he is really the one behind all of the drugs and kidnappings, but has no proof. She is trying to get proof and trying to find Amy before she is found dead. A lot of mystery and suspense! I really enjoyed reading this book. I really liked the characters.

Carrie & Mark - this story is told by Carrie's POV only. This is the only reason I gave the story 4 stars. I always feel cheated when I only get one of the main characters POV. I feel like I am only getting half of the story.

The story begins 3 years after Carrie's dad, who worked at the University, was convicted of using the university to make meth and dealing it out of the bar he and a friend own. He was sent to an out of state prison and Carrie followed him there to be close to him. Mark has some responsibility for him ending up there. Carrie's father was framed for being a drug dealer and Mark is the police officer that arrests him. In all fairness to Mark, we learn later about how involved the frame up for Carrie's dad really is.

Carrie is offered a job at the very same university where her dad worked right after he dies in prison (okay, murdered). She doesn't realize until after she arrives that she will be working for the new Dean - the man she believes is really the drug dealer. She has an ulterior motive - she needs to clear her father's name and discover what really happened.

She reconnects with her best friend Amy that she has only texted and talked on the phone with since she left town. (BTW - she left town and didn't tell anyone except a handful of people she left a message for, but not Mark.) They see a news item on TV about what appears to be a serial killer abducting women who look just like Amy. And you guessed it - Amy does get abducted.

Through many twists and turns, it turns out that the person abducting the women is also the drug dealer. Carrie stumbles into the very heart of it all and nearly loses her own life while attempting to save Amy.

Of course there is a Happily Ever After and there are many closures by the end of the story.

All in all - I enjoyed the story. There were plenty of clues and I did figure most of it out with a few exceptions, but I would have enjoyed it more if we had Mark's POV in several areas.

I read this after reading the first two books in the Harmless Series and got caught up just as quickly. There is lots of drama, suspense, the hope of romance and the one true love, personal demons while facing evil from outside threats, with a bit of humor mixed in for good measure. Guess it could be said I'm reading these series in the reverse order as I am now reading the Breaking Away Series having just finished this series. I'm enjoying reading the stories behind characters I read about in the Harmless series, finding their stories just as gripping and compelling. Definitely worth reading despite the difficult subject matter.

I have written individual reviews for each book of this trilogy and am not going to go through all 3 books in detail. Suffice it to say each book is absolutely intriguing and compelling. Once you begin this series you won't want to put it down. And the greatest part, if you're like me and hate having to wait for the next book to be published after a cliffhanger ending is, that with the entire series all together, you don't have to wait! You just turn the page. If you like the genre, you'll absolutely love this trilogy.

I had a hard time getting into the story but ended up really liking it. The story is told through the point of view of the main character. It gets a little drawn out at times. Once the action and suspense kick in it gets much better. Just realized that some of the secondary characters have their own stories. So, now I will have to check those out 😏

This boxed set had just about every issue and emotion that exists. It was a bit long i thought but a lot of effort with the storylines was certainly put forth. Some of the characters were not likeable like the Dean and his daughter. But this boxed set held my interest for many hours!

So, I typically am not a fan of books that require you to purchase multiple items to get the whole story. That being said, this author also writes under another name, and once I found out I quickly went and bought all the Meli Raine books. This is one author that I KNOW will give you a good read, and make you feel all the "feels". This foray into suspense is a complete win, and I can't wait for what will come next! Buy the set, clear your schedule, 'cause you won't want to put it down once you start!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series...

There are three parts to this story: Return, Revenge, Reunion
    1. I liked how the book began, with Carrie stuck on the side of the road and who else to rescue her but her ex, the one she hasn't seen in 3 years who arrested her father? Wow... She's come back to town after the death of her father for a job, one which she hopes will help her find clues about her her father was set up. It all takes place in the span of one week, and is quite suspenseful to the last page...
    ~
    2. Amy has been kidnapped now and other girls with similar features are turning up dead. Carrie had thought that there was a possible drug operation that had set up her dad, but it turns out to be worse than that. This part also takes place in one week, and Carrie is well on her way to not investigating what happened, but rather be set up. The only detail that seemed off for me was how I had the feeling that Mark had not been completely honest about everything before she spent the night with him; this part seemed a bit unrealistic...

    3. This part starts off with Carrie finally finding out where Amy has been kept hidden, and it's a lot closer to home that probably anyone ever considered... I had originally thought that M. might be involved, who who knew he would do that? This last part finishes the story & answers a lot of questions in an exciting way...

Carrie has returned home after being double crossed by the love of her life, who wrongly sent her father to prison. This book is full of suspense and danger, smoking hot men and the hope that the passionate and consuming love will beat the odds! (Also nice reference to Mrs Brown's Boys). Wonderfully written book Meli!
