Coming Home (Friends & Lovers Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 32 ratings

For Ramona Barrett, a lot has happened in fifteen years.
Her maniacal grandfather finally died.
Her father sobered up and got his life in order.
She built an enviable life based on righting her family’s wrongs.
And the chubby, awkward boy who used to be her best friend is now a man she hardly recognizes.

Lucas Winston recovered from his law-school fiasco and is now the hottest chef in DC. The elite clamor for a seat in his restaurant, the power-hungry vie for connections to his powerful family, and an old friend demands a forgotten promise be honored. Everyone wants a piece of him.

Except Ramona. She can’t see that he’s never stopped loving her. That they are meant to be together. Even if he is about to marry someone else.

If you’re looking for smart, sexy characters in a layered, emotionally-gripping story, Coming Home will take you there.

This steamy, standalone contemporary romance has no cliffhanger, but includes characters you will meet throughout the series.

Editorial Reviews

Review

This is one of my favorite reads this year. This book has all the elements I love in a good romance/erotica. Hot sex, believably flawed characters that pull you into their world, and great descriptive storytelling.

Sherry Terry - The Naked Reviewers

From the Author

AUTHOR'S PROMISE: This is a full length, standalone novel, featuring smart characters, no cliffhanger, and (as always) a happily ever after. Be advised that due to strong language and steamy sexual encounters, this book is not intended for the easily offended or readers under 18.

Fantastic how she can weave a steamy romance novel so well while portraying women for the strong goddesses we are!

A story about politics, political families, and childhood friends turning into lovers.

I really liked this story and I love Ramona Barrett. A young woman who has made her own way through life and made a life of her own. She has a hard time making a change in her life that makes her look at life differently. She'll go through a lot of changes and her life will head in a different direction than she planned, all from one trip back home for a death in the family.

A celebrity chef who is the son of a political powerhouse and a powerful family. He made some changes in his life a while ago and now that his best friend has come back home to attend a family funeral his life will go through more changes, but these changes are a dream come true for Lucas Winston.

This story was refreshing and fun to read. A story of two young people from powerful families that don't want to follow in their parents footsteps in many ways. They want to make a difference in the world and their lives will not be the same after the death of Ramona's grandfather, the Governor of Virginia. Ramona's will find what has been missing in her life for some time when she sees Lucas again after so many years away from home. The characters in this story are fun, strong, and enjoyable to read. I laughed at the way that Ramona, Connor, and Lucas interacted with each other and I cried with Ramona when she was upset.

I give this story a 4 star review and look forward to reading "Claiming Power". I read an excerpt at the back of this story and it looks intriguing. I like Connor and would love to read more about him and his life. I voluntarily read this book for an honest review.

Commitment phonic Romona Barrett is tasked with returning home.” Home means many things to her and none of them are good”. Being one of two people to escape the politics and antics her family thrives it she would have never guess this trip would become life changing. I mean besides people dying. A chance encounter with her Lucas of a childhood friend sets a series of events into motion that wasn’t actually all that bad. Also I deeply dislike Lucas. This standalone contemporary romance has no cliffhanger, but includes characters you will meet throughout the series. I really really did not like Lucas he seemed disingenuous, manipulative and childish. He gets upset for all the wrong things at the wrong times. Hes naïve is just aggravating especially the whole Abagail thing. I hate that Ro just became that person she didn’t want to become because of him.

Ramona comes home for he wretched granfather’s funeral. It’s been fifteen years. One of the first persons she sees is her childhood best friend Lucas. Everything they ever felt is still there. Until it’s not. This is a complex romantic story. Secrets and promises. This is a wonderfully written book and so many different characters that pulled at my emotions. Some I loved and some I love to hate. This was a first for me from this author and I was hooked on this book. Looking forward to reading more. A great book. I obtained an arc and left a honest review.

    Coming Home,  P.E. Kavanagh

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

    Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Romance

I hadn't read book one, didn't realise that these books were connected, I guess Lucas and Ramona were secondary characters in that. Maybe I'd have felt closer to them and the story if I had read the first.
I understood the sizzle when she first met Lucas again, but wished I knew if they'd ever been more than just Good Friends, as that seemed to get heated very quickly. Then once Ramona found out about the engagement I didn't see why she was still with him, especially when he just refused to answer or even consider answering any of her questions. I'd be saying “right, I'm off” and the person I feel Ramona was would too. Yet she doesn't, doesn't ask questions even while telling herself she deserves answers, just carries on in the same way.
I didn't really get why Lucas was with his fiancee. ( Annabelle? I've even forgotten her name and its only a day after reading...) the whole secrecy bit, reasons, excuses, nothing really added up IMO, and then at times it delves into what could be some deep drama but jumps out just as quickly without anything really happening.
I was irritated too at the fact Ramona hasn't been back for ten years, and yet soon as she's here its as if she has a monopoly on grief, she's busy blaming her brother for not being around enough because of his career, even though he lives locally, while conveniently forgetting she';s been away ten years!

Stars: Two, sadly a story that didn't work for me. As ever though others love it, I guess its one of those reads that suit some readers, not others. You can't please all of the people all of the time etc.

    I was gifted this book.
And how those choices can affect those we love! Ramona has come home for her grandfather’s funeral and reconnects with a childhood friend, Lucas, in an amazingly passionate way. While at first it seems this reconnection is the start of something great, it turns out there is more going on in Ramona and Lucas’ life that complicates their chances at love. Lucas is determined, though, to make it work.
I loved Lucas’ determination. He hung his heart on Ramona, and I found myself cheering him on, hoping they can make it all work.
There is a lot going on in the story. I think if I had read book 1 (even though Coming Home is a stand alone) I would have had a better sense of the dynamics Ramona and Lucas’ families.
Overall, the story is well written and I liked the lead characters and wanted them to have their Happy Ever After.
