4.5 out of 5 stars 77 ratings

If your cat told you there was murder afoot, would you believe him?
When cat-lady Lynley Cannon attends a workshop on animal communication– the psychic kind– she never guesses it could lead to a scheme both conniving and deadly. Someone in Portland is counterfeiting show cats, but that’s not the worst of it. Their techniques are savage and abusive, and Lynley must find the culprits before they do more harm. To compound matters, there’s a serial killer loose in Portland, mangling his victims with a gruesome cat-like claw. The crimes are connected, taking crazy to a whole new level in this 2nd Crazy Cat Lady cozy mystery.

Cat Writer Mollie Hunt is the award-winning author of two cozy series: the Crazy Cat Lady Mysteries featuring a sixty-something cat shelter volunteer who finds more trouble than a cat in catnip, and the Tenth Life Paranormal Mysteries involving a ghost cat. Her Cat Seasons Sci-Fantasy Tetralogy presents extraordinary cats saving the world. She recently released a COVID memoir which she calls, "a tale of a plague and politics, of depression and inspiration, and an ode to the very real and healing presence of cats." In her spare time, she pens a bit of cat poetry as well.

Mollie is a member of the Oregon Writers’ Colony, Sisters in Crime, the Cat Writers’ Association, Willamette Writers, and Northwest Independent Writers Association (NIWA). She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and a varying number of cats. Like her cat lady character, she is a grateful shelter volunteer.

Praise for Mollie Hunt, Cat Writer:

This is a delightful series. I've enjoyed both books I've read very much. It's a series I'll continue to read.

This second book is every bit as good as the first, if not better! The main character, Lynley, loves cats so much that she has 7 rescue cats of her own. In addition, she volunteers at the Friends of Felines shelter, fosters cats, AND helps solve mysteries!!
I love this series and highly recommend it. Unfortunately, I have to wait for the third book to get my next Crazy Cat Lady fix!!

A fun mystery involving a serial killer and an ilegal trade in fake pedigreed Siamese cats. The cases seem unrelated, but the killer seems to be copying the actions of a cat while the pedigreed cat scam deals with the capture, dying, and selling of cats to make people think they are pedigreed show cats. With a fun storyline, interesting characters, and a series of coincidences that build into a final confrontation the story is worth reading.

Terrific read. Communicating with your cats - can it be real? Fraud and missing cats abound as does the rising death toll. Who is behind it all and can she solve the mystery? Don't like the lead character and that is why this has got a 4* and not a 5. The plot is really well thought out.

First, I will give this book an A+ for writing (excellent grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling) and editing -- SO rare in the world of book publishing today. Next, more high marks for fascinating cat lore and information, both beginning each chapter and ensconced within the story itself. And I would say that I would have given the book 3 1/2 stars if Amazon allowed half-star ratings. The problem was the storyline itself. Although the plot itself was excellent, the story wandered. It meandered. It went from point A to point D to point H and back to point B. Bereft of a dozen extraneous side stories and remarks, the book could have been condensed into a truly suspenseful and compulsively readable tale, while still retaining all the earmarks of a "cozy". The other thing I found challenging was the main character's constant references to herself as "old", "old lady", etc. Good grief -- she was 59 and the book closes with her 60th birthday. Well, (bad descriptive phrase deleted!), I am two years past my 60th birthday, and I am NOT old. I wouldn't be caught dead in "granny shoes" (the ones she uses to break the murderer's hold on her), I never refer to myself as old, either, and while I might not spring up from a floor-sitting position as lithely as I once did, I don't crawl my way to the surface, either. If I'd seen the word "old" one more time in this manuscript, I would probably have launched my Kindle right against the wall!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cat Counterfeiting and Bizarre Murders

For me the best part of this book was the realistic depiction of cats and cat lovers, along with a peek behind the scenes of a well-run cat rescue organization. I was intrigued by the ideas about communicating with cats. The show cat counterfeiting operation was a shocking surprise, but the murder aspect strained the credibility meter a bit. Nevertheless, Lynley Cannon is an engaging main character and narrator. It was interesting to meet several members of her family as well.

Altogether this was an entertaining read, made especially interesting by the Portland, Oregon setting and the author's knowledge about and devotion to felines. Recommended to cozy mystery readers, especially those who like cats.

Great cat crime stories. Mollie Hunt is a true cat lover who knows and understands cats perfectly well, she writes about them beautifully. Her stories are captivating and beautifully written, there is suspense but also humour. I discovered Mollie Hunt's books only recently and I am so glad I did! I read a lot of cat crime novels and I can say Mollie Hunt is one of the best authors. I recommend highly.
