This was a fast-paced, suspenseful story with twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. I enjoyed the interaction between Gideon and Sapphire and the way he was able to build trust and get her to open up to him. They had great chemistry, both personal and professional. I liked seeing Sapphire finally warm up to Gideon and let him help her with the cases and her trauma. The suspense, mystery, and misdirect of suspects were well-done and entertaining; it definitely kept me guessing. The story background with Sapphire and her sisters was heartbreaking and disturbing and has me wanting to learn more about each of them. I’m looking forward to reading the other sisters’ HEAs. They definitely deserve them!

    I love romantic suspense and I don't mind if it gets a little dark and realistic. That's what I was expecting with this book. I know the subject of human trafficking is a disturbing one and was bracing for some pretty horrific scenes., based on the synopsis and reader warning.
    In the beginning, we learn how the Hatcher sisters were kidnapped one night from their home and taken to a place to be sold as sex slaves. Don't worry, this story doesn't delve that deep into the subject. The horror is implied, but not the focus of the plot. Instead, it is about how four sisters survived and cope with life 10 years later, with this first story in the series focusing on Sapphire. She is now a homicide detective hunting down a serial killer who abducts and kills teenage girls. To help with the case, her boss brings in gorgeous criminal psychiatrist, Gideon.
    The plot is interesting and the case has a lot of twists and turns. What I found disappointing was that there wasn't enough depth to the story and I didn't feel the attraction between Sapphire and Gideon. It was like everything was within reach, but just didn't get completed as far as me becoming invested with the characters or the plot. I also didn't quite understand the purpose of the timeline within the story. I wasn't sure of the importance of the dates or the times of day throughout the story. It wasn't really necessary to the plot, especially once the killer stopped following his original game plan.
    I also had a problem with the overuse of 'she's being used instead of Sapphire's name, especially in scenes involving all of her sisters.
    I really wanted to like this book because the synopsis is so intriguing. Unfortunately, I was never able to get emotionally involved with the characters or the plot.

    I don’t normally get into books that are told in third person POV, but with this one I did, and I was hooked! The things that Sapphire experienced in the beginning were heartbreaking but just what book needed to help you understand why she was the way she was throughout the rest of the book. Although I do wish I would’ve figured out if she found her savior and if he supported her get to where she was in the detective world.

    I loved Gideon. He was the perfect person to match with Sapphire. I loved how he didn’t hesitate to fight for her attention and help her throughout her case and her personal journey.

    I loved the mystery and suspense of the story and how it unfolded to reveal the bad person, though I think he got an easy out. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

    I thought I had read all of Jane Blythe's books then came across this series. I had high expectations as I always expect a great read from Jane and this book certainly did not disappoint. The story has a real shock beginning that drags you straight into the story. Sapphire is an absolutely brilliant character who you cannot help but empathise with. She is clever, funny, and definitely feisty! Her first interactions with Gabriel are hilarious. This book really has it all, an exciting plotline, likeable characters, and great romance. This book will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, laughter, tears, excitement, shock. There are also lots of exciting tidbits of information about other characters that had me grabbing for the next book in the series the minute I had finished. I recommend this book unreservedly and as I write this am already half way through the second! (less)

    This book grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. The subject matter is intense, but the author handles it with grace and gentleness. While it might be a trigger, the details about the rapes, murders and human trafficking are not so descriptive as to upset the reader. I liked how strong Sapphire tried to be after being sold and rescued. She dedicated her life to saving as many people as she could. I loved the way Gideon treated her with respect and understanding.
